    Not the first I've seen say the Meze are overpriced for their sound, but it sounds like their build quality beats some of the most expensive headphones in the world. Trading some sound for exceptional comfort and materials.
    I'd love to pickup a pair of Empyreans or Elites someday. Thanks for these videos!

      yeah, they also are extremely convenient. audeze builds very good headphones in terms of build., although nowhere near to meze in terms of comfort.

    I've used the original Empyreans as a daily driver for a year now, and continue to appreciate their comfort, build quality and sheer versatility. This is an all day, every day kind of headphone that handles multiple genres of music admirably and makes music enjoyable, and are great for gaming and movies, too.
    Also, not to diss anybody else's build quality, but I'd confidently put Meze up against anybody in the industry, bar none.
    Two points- trying Elite pads did not result in increased detail retrieval to my ear- it's not just pads, I would say. For my ear, I think the Empys need the pads that diffuse sound more than focus it- which is the Alcantaras. With the Alcantara pads (once the headphone had broken in), that characteristic bass bleeding into the mids went away and the Empys opened up, and became much more cohesive in presentation.
    2) Another misconception is that the Empys aren't particularly fussy in terms of amplification. I've found otherwise. I recently upgraded from a Topping DX7 Pro (a well regarded budget DAC/Amp) to a Burson Conductor 3XP, and that really tightened the bass, and believe it or not, I hear significantly more treble detail with that setup.

      Not sure I’m tracking- but the Elite is Meze’s best headphone. If you want to save some money, the Empyrean can be had for around $1600 USD on the used market right now. But they don’t have the resolution of the Elite. They do have the same sound signature.

      Not really. I said off the top that the Elite is a better headphone. I said it may not be worth upgrading if you're an Empyrean owner, because they're a thousand dollars more. The Elite did very well in my mega-shootout, ranking 2nd when I put them head to head with other headphones. I do admit that my appreciation for the Elite definitely grew on me the more time I spent with them-- and I took them on the road with me for a week. Plus I changed the Elite's earpad to the Empyrean earpad which changed the comfort part of the equation. On the Empyrean side-- the best thing about the Empyrean is that the price has tanked on these-- you can pick them up for around $1500-- pretty good deal at that price.

    Utopia or the Meze Elite? Which is better sonically?

      I have them both. They are two completely different beasts. If you want to know how badly the music you have has been recorded, get the Utopia. If critical listening is not your thing and u want everything to just sound awesome, get the Meze

      @michaelp.3485 3 года назад +2

      @@johenkay1129 I'm sure it does, but if a track was poorly recorded and mixed, then the Utopia will make it an unenjoyable experience because it will shine a spotlight on the deficiencies, whereas the Elite will be more forgiving. It will allow you to enjoy a wider variety of music without magnifying the bad stuff. That's my take.

      @@JTB-- I demoed the Elite , Empy, Liric, and D8000 pro , two days ago. Empy is very boomy bass with warm sound, not very detailed. Elite is much better in detailed, more balanced. D8000 pro is kinda similar to Elite but with a but more detail. But honestly, other than Meze is much more comfortable, my pair of Arya Stealth is just as detailed and the tone is very much to my liking, and Arya cost like 1/3 of the price of Elite and D8000 pro. Sometimes its just stupid to spend so much more when theres goood enough headphone for good price like Arya. I also have Focal Stellia but i think it sounds like crap now after i got the Arya Stealth

    • @JTB--
      @JTB-- 3 года назад

      @@provisionalhypothesis The Stealth Magnet Arya is very comfortable... But if all you care about is comfort and looks than Meze is definitely the choice. But if you only care about the sound of a headphone... the Arya SM competes with and in some areas is Better than headphones twice it's price. It's called diminishing returns when a HP half the price of the really expensive headphones can do 90% of what the Flagship headphones do.

    • @JTB--
      @JTB-- 3 года назад

      @@provisionalhypothesis All you need is a little EQ like a Schiit Lokius tone control to give the Arya more Bass. The Stealth Magnet actually has a good low end Bass... Especially if you're comparing it to something like the 800s. The thing with Bass heavy headphones is at first you are in heaven with the Bass... And then one day you are listening to that HP and all that Bass is starting to drive you nuts as you realize it's over powering the Mids and Treble. I think I'd rather EQ in some Bass when needed over a headphone that's dominated with Bass all the time. But to each their own. It's what makes this headphones hobby so interesting.
