Thank you for providing this review - I had already purchased this N5 camera system. However, I purchased a 512Gb memory card with an "A2" on it by mistake. Your warning about the memory card speed saved me the headaches of using the slower card. I purchased 2 of the A1 cards as I will be doing ride-share driving and would like to be able to switch cards in the event of an incident.
Man that camera looks really great, but the only problem is the clarity. This is exactly why I stick to the rove 4K I want a dash cam that will cover the passenger and driver side window. Tha rove us great but it’s just front. But I can read plates 😂

The only thing i dislike is the stationary mount the N5 have, thats what keeping me from upgrading. I diver multiple vehicles everyday so i need to be able to bring my dashcam with me.
the vantrue n5 pro can run in 4k in the camera resolution area under Front + F, Cabin + R, Rear + R > Top Option (Or 1944p + 1080p + 1080p + 1080p 30 fps) @@MikeDancy thats why I believe that your test at night time did not so well.
Great video. I ended up getting their nexus 4 pro. It’s a little cheaper but has 4k front with one 1080p rear and in cabin cameras. All at 30 frames per second.
You need “High Endurance” sd cards for every dash or surveillance cam, samsung makes one of the best high endurance cards, those cards are meant to be overwritten abused and used non stop. Sandisk 98% of other companies dont make sd cards for dash or surveillance cameras.
2024 and it's still hard to read plates with dash cams. I work for a nationwide forwarder for automotive repossessions and our recovery agents have licence plate readers that I want to say can capture plates from a decent distance. I wonder why dash cams don't have better readability of plates.

When the technology first came out I remember getting LPR hits from billboards, business signs, different types of signage not even resembling a license plate lol. Gotten a lot better since then. Recovery agents have spotter cars that drive thru apartment complexes, malls, business you name it and they take scanned plates with the GPS coordinates. If a scanned plate comes back as being out for repossession a tow driver is notified and the car is taken. The readers (multiple usually )are mounted outside the vehicle however.
omg YES it is a challenge to install. Vantrue isn't helpful for install. In fact they set you up to fail because the cable connections are not always placed in the right location for plug in (ie - windsheid angles prevent plug in) and Vantrue does NOT include the proper usb c adaptors. Vantrue camera might be good, but Vantrue support and instructions and information SUCKS. Pack a lot of patience is brilliant and entirely accurate.
I live in a place with bad drivers too. I live on a back road and some people feel the need to have a tire on the double yellow lines. Maybe they are texting, being an @-hole (no shortage of those), or they just don't like getting too close to the edge of our sometimes horrible roads understandably.
I installed this exactly camera in my sons car and I had hard wired it in to the car rather than to use the cigarette lighter port, I did have to purchase the hardwired kit and the sd card separately which by now you’d have thought a camera for such an expensive camera would already come with the unit and to add the updates once installed you have to reset the country and time
I had my N4 professionally installed, hoping the cables are the same. Do a Firmware update now and get the APP working before you install. Also get a UV filter and GPS Mount. There are better videos out there. I got my G5 for $307 with a link on another Review. Good luck to all.
There is an option for it overwriting the oldest footage. The only footage that it won't overwrite is anything u saved. But there is 100% a setting u can change!

BUT N4 parking mode records 12 or more seconds after the event has happened. N5 has buffered parking mode and numerous other features N4 lacks. Put in more than 100 hours reading and videos. If 5 captured plates at night as well as 4, It would be installed in my 8-passenger van already. Will probably get the n5 soon.. now researching connecting 5 to And what brand of? ...two paralleled battery packs.
Wow! Okay during day, terrible at night and terrible at many things. Thinkware U3000 and Viofo A139 Pro has it beat. Also Blackvue DR970-X appears to be better.

Yeah, the stickers is a bad idea. You might as well just hand your $400 dash camera over to the thieves. I've had several dash cams stolen it's expensive and annoying. Now I take the camera out everywhere I go. Which is a pain in the ass. Thieves know the expensive dash cams from the Tiktok, Temu cheap cams. So, if you want to keep your expensive dash cam, i'd suggest taking it out everytime you park somewhere.
I had a Nextbase 622GW and it could not capture license plates well enough. Too grainy. I don't care if the camera has any special AI function for it or not. I can open the video in VLC media player and copy any frame or I can even open the clip in different software and extract all of the frames or choose a segment of it and extract just those ones. The latter option is good if the video is a little bit blurry because you can flip through the frames you wanted to find the one that came out the best.

I'm in Australia and purchased this Vantrue N4 Pro 4K dashcam for my Mazda 2 (2020) and found on opening the box that it is very heavy and BIG. the N5 model shares the same badly designed housing as the N4. There is no reason from a design standpoint to make the whole that heavy and the cord (from the cigarette lighter) is not long enough to hide it in the panels so it had to go direct and in front of the dash - very ugly arrangement. The double sided tape that came with the factory couldn't hold the dashcam on the windscreen because it is THAT heavy. I got rid of the factory tape and used a 3M tape and it also couldn't hold it on the windscreen due to the WEIGHT. Moved to using Loctite superglue and it held only for a few days. I'm considering throwing it in the trash bin. This device is too heavy for ANY glue to hold it on the windscreen. Very badly designed. Product not tested at all.If you live in a country that has a normal summer (30+ C), you wont be able to keep it glued to the windscreen. Highly recommend you do NOT buy this dashcam. You have been warned.
There is a reason I didn't show the install video. The barrel kept falling off the windshield. I switched to something called "alien tape" which made the install a bit easier but it's still a LARGE camera. I use the Vantrue E3 as my daily dashcam now.

So it’s only showing 3 of the 4 cameras and not showing the whole trip? The 3/4 might be fixed in settings in resolution. You need to make sure that all 4 cameras are selected. I just had this issue with the E3. For the duration, what do you have the recording length set to? It could be 1/3/5 minutes. Do you not see everything in the card? Any chance you could upload your own RUclips video and send it?

You’ll need a hardwire kit and / or attach it to its own battery. You’re better off with a battery powered security camera if you’re just recording break ins or similar

With the front facing camera, is there only one angle that the camera can be attached at to the windshield? I’m worried that with the angle of my windshield and not being able to adjust the camera, the frame of my shot will not be right.
Just bought this camera , installed it and have a few questions. When setting up the app and camera , why can't I remotely monitor from the app . As an example -if I install the cam in my car and then my wife takes the car and I stay home . How come I can't access videos, Audio, GPS, mileage statistics from the app ? Am I missing something here ? I want to be able to look at the videos or captures or view in real time , is this possible?
I have a Dodge Durango, it's a longer vehicle and I had a ton of slack that I had to hide under the roof skirting. It has plenty of length. It's also just a normal USB C cable. So you could potentially just get a custom size and use your own.

@@povlily6349 Easy. When you are driving and approaching a speed bump, travel over it a little faster than normal. When you do, the camera collision feature will lock the footage because of the sudden event at the speed bump.
As I have commented before I have this exact same camera system in my sons car and he had noticed yesterday that someone had ran into his car on the university carpark and we can’t retrieve the footage of the incident!!! Why is this ? How do I retrieve footage

I imagine the power cable will work just fine, but was thinking the other one probably won’t since it has the extra rear camera and I imagine better quality as well. I actually have the n4. I didn't see a setting for that but I'm going to review another VanTrue dashcam in a week or two. It is almost the same camera but no lenses in the cabin.
One thing to note about dash cams and legal liability: if you hand over footage of an incident and *you are at fault,* video evidence MAY help you reduce your conviction severity. So even when it's your fault, it can still be useful. Obviously: consult your lawyer.

i bought the same one. it was working fine. But today it stopped working. whenever it starts . it shows orange screen and doesnt show any video at all. not recording. i tried reset with card replacement and format. but still not working. any suggestions
If it had that 3M mounting tape on the mount it would surprise me if it came off. That stuff is strong and feels like it will never come off. Did you use any coatings on the interior glass? I know there are some to prevent fogging. Or maybe it had a lot of that haze that shows up sometimes.
I got mine and installed it today. I mounted it, then needed to move it because the cable wouldn't reach, it was hard as hell to get off and didn't fall off once after moving it.

The Rove 4K is a great camera. I reviewed it too. The VanTrue n5 is heavy and was difficult to install

if you want it to record while the car is off, you'll need to install a hard wire kit. They do cost extra.

I’m not a fan of the app for controlling a dashcam personally. But I do love my VanTrue E3
I just bought an N5 and I hardwired it. Everything works well but I have that issue the SD Card is full after 2 days. It doesn’t overwrite
U need to go into ur settings and change that.

Not sure if mentioned: You have to redo ALL those settings every time you update the dash cam's firmware (via OTA/WiFi).

I drilled a small hole through the windshield and bolted it in place then covered the hole with caulking

it gets a bit choppy on the card trying to record 4K. it needs a really fast card to process 4 cameras at once.
Try living in New York City 😅 my fellow NYer thank you! Just purchased the N4 Pro & realize there is a N5 🤦🏻♀️so I will buy this one instead. I wish it had side view cameras on each side, like a real 360° view. Either way the video is clear, I like it and it's far better than any dashcam I've came across.
I sometimes run a couple of GoPros on each side of the car when I know I’m going to a “target rich zone”
You can have "real 360-degree" view. Buy 2 2-chanel sets... and in case hardwire both of them (possible) if you want the 360-view when parked as well.

With the front facing camera, is there only one angle that the camera can be attached at to the windshield? I’m worried that with the angle of my windshield and not being able to adjust the camera, the frame of my shot will not be right.

What is the point of dash cam if it cannot capture a plate number of the vehicle in the front of you?
it depends on the dashcam and conditions. Some work better than others.
Just bought this camera , installed it and have a few questions. When setting up the app and camera , why can't I remotely monitor from the app . As an example -if I install the cam in my car and then my wife takes the car and I stay home . How come I can't access videos, Audio, GPS, mileage statistics from the app ? Am I missing something here ? I want to be able to look at the videos or captures or view in real time , is this possible?
you need to be within Wifi range of the unit itself. The dashcam pushes out a signal and devices connect to it.
This is not a cloud-enabled camera system.
Question, can you zoom in on any of the channels while recording?
not that I saw. you can't connect to it while it's recording and the screen is pretty small

How long is the cable for the rear cameras? Does the cable long enough for Lexus RX350L?
It was long enough plus some for my CRV. It was 20 feet.
I have a Dodge Durango, it's a longer vehicle and I had a ton of slack that I had to hide under the roof skirting. It has plenty of length. It's also just a normal USB C cable. So you could potentially just get a custom size and use your own.
What’s the difference between this and the n4. I’m looking to get this for my truck, but there’s a big price difference between this and the other.
I’ve never used the N4 but I found the N5 Pro way toooo heavy and it had trouble staying mounted. I personally use the E3

@@povlily6349 Easy. When you are driving and approaching a speed bump, travel over it a little faster than normal. When you do, the camera collision feature will lock the footage because of the sudden event at the speed bump.

As I have commented before I have this exact same camera system in my sons car and he had noticed yesterday that someone had ran into his car on the university carpark and we can’t retrieve the footage of the incident!!! Why is this ? How do I retrieve footage
Is the camera hardwired? The parking camera only works with hardwired cameras.

There was a lot of swearing and it wasn’t a positive experience. I’m still debating about putting VanTrue under a negative microscope :)

I imagine the power cable will work just fine, but was thinking the other one probably won’t since it has the extra rear camera and I imagine better quality as well. I actually have the n4. I thought I had the n3
@@MikeDancy would be nice if I could just unplug the front and rear cameras and mount the new ones and use the existing cables. I have the hardwire kit to wire up in the fuse box on order. It’s supposed to be here Thursday

No. It’s not. I did just review a 4K camera though. It would take a really FAST SD card to write 4x 4K cameras

Are you able to turn off the cabin camera? Or is that always recording once powered?
I didn't see a setting for that but I'm going to review another VanTrue dashcam in a week or two. It is almost the same camera but no lenses in the cabin.
Yes, this dash cam has 5 recording modes, so you can select front + rear recording mode if you want to turn off the cabin camera.
One thing to note about dash cams and legal liability: if you hand over footage of an incident and *you are at fault,* video evidence MAY help you reduce your conviction severity.
So even when it's your fault, it can still be useful. Obviously: consult your lawyer.
100% Facts! That’s interesting. I had to hand in some footage the other day to a detective for a shooting I caught on dashcam. I didn’t have to but they asked nicely :)
i bought the same one. it was working fine. But today it stopped working. whenever it starts . it shows orange screen and doesnt show any video at all. not recording. i tried reset with card replacement and format. but still not working. any suggestions
That’s interesting. What sd card are you using? You may want to contact them through their website. I’ve never heard of that issue.

If it had that 3M mounting tape on the mount it would surprise me if it came off. That stuff is strong and feels like it will never come off. Did you use any coatings on the interior glass? I know there are some to prevent fogging. Or maybe it had a lot of that haze that shows up sometimes.
I think it might have been the temperature when I applied the adhesive. I switched it to Alien Tape and that was a lot stickier.
I got mine and installed it today. I mounted it, then needed to move it because the cable wouldn't reach, it was hard as hell to get off and didn't fall off once after moving it.

It can. But it depends on how you set up the power
