Dear Ric, thank you for sharing your story! I always love listening to you. You are so open and honest 🥰 Your explanations about the development of voice were extremely interesting! Best wishes to you and your family!❤️
Beautiful breath control especially at 42:00 - 43:50 and throughout really! Loved how he bent his legs to let go of that extra long note! I think that the physicality of the body's movement helps the functioning beyond what we feel we are even capable of at times. That note is a great example of 'letting go' instead of 'pushing it'! So refreshing from some of the pushed notes I've witnessed with some singers. It makes me wince when they push because I can already anticipate the vocal damage down the road.
I really love what Ric said about age regarding roles and repertoire. The voice doesn’t know how old it is. It just knows whether something feels right or not. Heavier voices trying to sing Rossini or lighter repertoire may offer similar vocal strains as lighter voices tackling heavier repertoire when the voice isn’t ready yet. Testing the waters is okay, especially with mentor/faculty supervision, and the voice will respond to whether it’s ready or not for that opportunity.
Fantastic interview; congratulations to this great tenor. Unfortunately only those who don´t sing and cannot sing a single note at all are the only ones who "know" everything about singing and repertoire, and that is may be the biggest problem for young or new singers WORLDWIDE. Teachers and coaches and impresarios and managers think they can decide everything about singing, voices and repertoire and destinies, and they are absolutely convinced they know about singing, what ist most of the time MASSIVELY WRONG WORLDWIDE.
Yep, but he's rather tall so that's always a "benefit" to impresarios and the like. I hope, for his sake, he has a big voice in spite of the voice's inherent qualities.
He has sounded like a dramatic tenor in some of his clips, but I agree that he doesn't sound like a heldentenor in most of his videos. But he's still a decent singer anyways.

Listened to a few clips of him. Nice voice, reasonably natural technique, but he sounds like a lyric tenor to me.
Lirico-spinto at minimum. Listen to how fat his Bbs are in his improvviso. Pretty big voice.
