    Don’t see a ton of videos on RUclips of disc plows - was nice to see, they were very common around the part of Saskatchewan where I’m from as the dirt is very sticky and would just plug up the moldboard style plows. Keep up the good work, I really need to get back into my RD4 project to have it ready for Caterpillars birthday next year. Cheers 🍻

      @@lifeafterourloss there are some on the list for sure - rantoul illinois sounds like it’ll be well worth checking out since they are doing a caterpillar feature, unfortunately I will be in Edmonton Alberta for a 100th celebration that we are planning the same weekend. There are never enough weekends before winter strikes lol

    Use a rubber tire stem to add air to spay cans to get the rest of the contents out! Thanks to a RUclipsr for the idea. I like the inter action between you and your dad. Thanks for posting these videos the Squatch said to visit some time ago.

      I tried antique crawler parts a few years ago. I asked a couple of times, but they didn't seem to be keen to ship abroad as I am over in England.

    These gasoline CATs are kind of interesting. The mud is actually fine rust particles. Imagine how easy it would be to ruin the block with water by opening the tap and forgetting about it. But once its plugged up your into a unpleasant surprise in the spring. Do like your repairs and the way how you approach the problems.

      @@lifeafterourloss Exactly Aaron. Also the fact the operator was lazy opened the tap. But never checked if it all trained out or not. Believe it or not there are still people who use water to this day, cause coolant is too expensive?

    Nice editing as usual. I’m glad to see these service tasks being detailed out and modeled. What at first seems intimidating or, “I’m afraid I might break it”, is usually not that bad and goes a long way to keeping these machines alive. I’m also mad at you because now I want another tool. That induction heat gadget thing is outstanding!

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  Месяц назад +2

      🤣 thanks! The induction heater is a great tool that we use way more than I anticipated. Mine is a cheap aftermarket but there are better brands. They work very well on Rusty stuck exhaust parts! 👍

    I wish you had shown the starting of the 22. It should be choke and two pulls over to prime and start on the third pull. That is the way it used to be starting my 8C 20. Then it got to where you have to spin it like you were doing. I have long suspected a intake manifold leak. I finally got a new gasket from Olsens, I have it torn down now, I hope that fixes it.

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  Месяц назад +1

      For some reason this cat is a hard starter. I have it in a little bit more detail on the show prep video. Usually if I prime it well it starts. I should be able to get some more detailed starting sequences in the future. Curious to know if you're carburetor fixes the hard starting. I never considered the carburetor on our 22. 🤔

      Thank you! If you're looking for a crawler, I would start with a membership to the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club. Also known as ACMOC. They have a for sale area or a wanted to buy area on the forum. An annual membership is very reasonable. It gives you access to a forum for questions and advice. Some of the D4s we have found on Facebook Marketplace but most we found by word of mouth. Occasionally some pop up on eBay. There are quite a few D4s still out there. If you can find one that's running that's a good place to start. 😊👍 Welcome to the channel.

    Another great video. Do you plan on flushing the cooling system in the future after seeing that mud? Personally I like to run Cascade dishwasher soap through cooling systems to get them spotless. Works very well

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  Месяц назад +2

      Thanks Matt. That's a great idea, I've never heard of it. It was relatively clean I think that was just debris that settled in the lowest point of the system. Pretty sure Grandpa flushed it and changed the coolant. I might strengthen the antifreeze but that's about it. 👍

    Is -7F good enough for your area? I live in North Eastern Ontario and if it's not -45, it's not good enough. I really enjoy watching your cat stuff, even though I have only driven a crawler once, about 40 years ago. Keep up the great work!
