For those who don't know, DJ Premier is from Houston, went to college in Texas, then moved to NYC and formed Gangstarr in 1988 with Guru (who also graduated from college before moving to NYC). Absolute legend of the game!
Word. Learned that when I was looking into other Houston rappers like K-rino. Had a stage where I was listening to a lot of H.I.S.D (Houston Independent Spit District) & Scarface too. Legendary producer DJ Screw (R.I.P) is from Houston too. An underrated Rap/Hip Hop market.
And about Guru? Big homie Guru is a (Bean town) Boston native who later moved to NYC too. Neither Preemo nor Guru were originally NYC natives. Guru is Boston born & bred.

I was listening to Guru/Gangstar in the early 90's when nobody I knew liked them. Being so young I never acknowledged who DJ Premier is. It's so dope that he's working with all the West Coast Legends which the knowledge you shared makes that 100% doper
Only correction is gangstarr was already a group and premo joined after moving to New York. Guru and Big Shug started gangstarr in Boston years prior
