    I love the idea of carrying a spare change of clothing in a small packing cube in your personal carry on/back pack in case your luggage goes missing or arrives later. Great tip.

    I can't travel without my packing cubes and shoe bags! The organization is a must. They also make TSA bag inspections go faster in every country. One caution - my wipes have leaked so I pack them in ziploc bags. Enjoy your trip.

    Compression packing cubes! That’s where you gain so much space compared to regular cubes or no cubes. We travel backpack only a lot and the compression makes all the difference!!

    I always carry a packing cube with a pair of pjs, 2 tops (that go with my “wear on the plane bottom”), a couple of pairs of undies and socks… and a pair of slipper socks. I also carry my liquids bag and makeup, in my personal item bag. That way, if my larger carry-on bag needs to be checked… or my checked bag goes “missing”, I have these things on hand, for a day or 2… before I hopefully get my checked bag… or can go shopping for the missing essentials.

    I absolutely love packing cubes. They keep things organized and contained even non clothing items. Using them turns packing in to a game of tetris and they make unpacking so simple and easy. I've recently gotten a set of compression packing and absolutely adore them for clothing.

    When I first discovered packing cubes I was not a fan because I they take up space and add weight. Then, I tried them, and now I never travel without them. I love the organization. It makes it so easy to find what I need and keeps clothes folded or rolled.

    I love using packing cubes!! On a recent trip to Europe, husband didn’t use cubes and I did. He’s more of a “wing it” type and I’m more of a planner. When airport agent said “remove 5lbs from bag or pay extra..” we both opened our bags. My bag was neat and it took me 10-seconds to remove a small cube and put it in carry-on. While his bag had clothes falling out and everyone watching all the details of his wrinkled contents. Even though he had folded his clothes when putting them in, it had all shifted and portions fell out when opening his bag on the airport floor. Picture a grown man hastily shoving a random sock back into his luggage, totally cross contaminated w/ airport floor germs. 🫣😅
    He asked me to buy him packing cubes, lol What he didn’t know, was that I already had.

    In the times before packing cubes were popular, I used plastic shopping bags in my luggage! The Gap had ones with drawstring closure that worked perfectly. If you have a nylon suitcase, packing cubes keep clothes dry, if there should be a spill or heavy rain. It also ensures that your items are contained if security decides to inspect your luggage.

    I find that the packing cubes and bags are so good for organizing. I know where to find things and although there is not a lot of space saving, it is an efficiency thing. I also use a smaller bag in purses to hold my wallet and smaller stuff, so that I am not digging in the bottomless pit!

  • @wkgeneralwkgeneral527
    @wkgeneralwkgeneral527 2 года назад +6

    Most people do not usually use packing cubes the right way by not taking advantage of the compression effect. Yes they are are great way to organize clothing into groups but the beauty of a packing cube is that you can stuff a lot more clothes into the same space. If you load the packing cube, zip it 3/4 shut, you will find that you can get more items into the cube by stuffing and taking advantage of air pockets in the bag.

    • @missmayflower
      @missmayflower 2 года назад +2

      Unfortunately, that really presses the wrinkles into the clothes. Also, cramming in more stuff makes your bag heavier. You need to be able to easily lift it into the overhead bin without clobbering anybody and, occasionally, they may weigh your bag to see if you meet restrictions.

    • @KatieRockey
      @KatieRockey  2 года назад +1

      I completely agree that compression effect is very useful! Similar to missmayflower’s comment, packing more does add more weight. I wanted to be mindful for this trip since we would be traveling by train and walking with our suitcases from the train station to our hotel. Thanks for your input!

    I love packing cubes. I try to pack some extras. I’ll use one for pajamas, anything I’ll need at night like medicine, charger, sweatshirt in case I’m cold in the middle of the night. I’ll have another one that I will put the next days clothes in. Maybe protein powder for my breakfast. That way I cAn start to get ready without waking the family. I’ll have one in my day bag with items I’ll need or my kids will need. That way certain items are not “loose.” My new favorite, if I’m driving and have space, is one of those small hanging clothes bags with the shelves. Keeps me so organized. Love it!

    • @KatieRockey

      That’s a great point! There are so many crevices that you can utilize when packing that packing cubes don’t allow for.

      @@KatieRockey But who’s to say you can’t do both? Use the cubes for the majority of your items and then stuff to fill the crevices if needed.
      I usually would put items like socks/underwear in a ziplock baggie and stuff them in my shoes so the shoes retain their shape.
      On arrival, I’d then put socks/underwear in one cube.

On arrival, I just put the cubes with my things in the drawers of where I'm staying so my clothes don't touch the hotel drawers. I like packing cubes for organization. My "smalls" are in one place (underwear, bras, sleepshirt, socks) and the other is for my dinner outfits/dresses so they don't get dirty. I don't mind my daywear to be just folded and plopped in the bag. Take advantage of the grooves between your luggage handle - as you showed. Shoes can be places along the sides of the bag and don't need to be paired. Ziploc bags are your friend and I really like gallon vegetable ziploc bags (hard to find these) for being able to smoosh things in random corners and keep items clean. I used to use these when traveling with pre-schoolers and taking their Lego sets! But I still find traveling uses for them today.

  • @eundongpark1672
    @eundongpark1672 2 года назад

    i am not a "tidy person" generally, but when I use packing cubes, I pack the clothes exactly to the size of the cube, so I get more into the cube than you do, that "fold precisely" concept doesn't work well for socks and bras but It works well for everything else. by folding precisely, I fit more into the cube plus the clothes pile is flatter, which supports the shape when theyre compressed and stops them becoming wrinkled. I don't use compression cubes (which only seem to compress the edges IMO). I use the narrow cubes (like you, I think they're good for small garments) and shoes (in bags) to fit between the support bars of the extendible handle, to create a flat base or the rest of the packing.

    Tbh I’ve never seen the benefit of a packing cube and this video confirmed it for me 😂. I can see that for many it helps with organisation, but for me…what am I organising inside the case? I get everything ready before I put it in the suitcase, I don’t really care where it goes in. It’s a small box, when I open it at the hotel I’m gonna remember where everything is is and if not, it’s somewhere within the suitcase. Knowing me I’ll probably forget what cube I put something in

    Instead of packing cubes, I have always used lingerie laundry bags (unstructured, zippered mesh bags). Their benefits over packing cubes: cheaper, available in a wider variety of sizes, conform better to use all available space, weigh less, and useful when doing laundry while traveling. And they still keep my clothes well-organized. I use a cube or three to corral non-clothing items. These days one cube is dedicated to masks, wipes, sanitizing gels & sprays.
    My trick with clothes that have been worn, whether for an hour or all day, is to turn them inside out. If I did contact anything 'unclean', it is contained on the inside. Worn clothes except undies become the bottom (unbagged) layer of my suitcase. Makes it easier to sort clean from dirty at laundry time. My worn undies and sox are stowed in a plastic bag from my collection of hotel laundry bags.

Be aware that sometimes they airline agents at the gate will have those with the last boarding position gate check their bag because there may not be enough overhead space. Good question! When I pack with packing cubes, I leave the space in between the rails in case I purchase clothes or other items while I’m on a trip. It I don’t want to over pack initially and not leave room for others items purchased.

    Did you have a problem taking your Away carryon on the plane? Assuming it is the Away bigger carry on

    • @KatieRockey
      @KatieRockey  2 года назад

      Great question! Yes, I do have the Away Bigger Carry-On. I have not had any issues using this suitcase as my carry-on on any U.S. or international flight. I mainly fly using Southwest and Delta and have not had any issues with those airlines. Also, I have flown from Barcelona to Amsterdam using KLM and did not have any issues with this suitcase as a carry-on. However, I have not flown with a European budget airline. The budget airlines tend to have a smaller plane and require a small carry-on suitcase. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @KatieRockey

      I have never had an issue with this liquids bag in the U.S. or in Rome, Italy or Barcelona, Spain. However, I do recognize that this bag is slightly bigger than the quart size that TSA allows in the States. I do carry quart size ziplock bags just in case. Has anyone used the plastic shrink bags. I use them to fit more in my luggage. It shrinks with a vacuume cleaner and shrinks my clothes to 1 forth of the room. First cruise and maybe my only cruise. Give me any info on pros and cons please.

    • @KatieRockey
      @KatieRockey  2 года назад

      One of my friends use one for our Italy trip a couple of years ago. It seemed to work for her. Somethings to think about would be the type of shrink bag. For example, does it require a vacuum or air compressor to pull the air out or is it the type that you can roll it up to remove the air. Another thing would be the quality of plastic. Some tend to rip easily. I lean towards packing cubes since my suitcase has the compression sleeve that helps me compress my clothes down further. Hope that gives you a little more information.
