Nice video. Just want to point out that when using the bulb syringe it should be placed inside the babies cheek. Suctioning directly down the throat can stimulate the vagus nerve, which can lead to bradycardia.

You are an amazing teacher. I just watched another video on newborn head to toe assessment where I had to take notes, but with your video everything you taught just sits in my head. Thank you
Hi, amazing video ! Just wanted to mention that in the UK we are instructed to always visualize the palate and uvula since just palpating is felt not to be enough and to miss some of the clefts. Thanks for the video !
Is there a head to toe assessment video for adults?? I thought that I watched it before. I was going to recommend it to my cohort, but I can’t find it.
Your video is so informative! Thank you this will help me for my maternity rotation :) Also I was wondering when would you check for moro reflex during the assessment?
Hi thanks for this video...it gave me some great insight to getting acquainted with newborn assessment. I am an NP student and started pediatrics Nursing and diagnostics. I noticed you didn't check the hips for dysplasia. Did you forget or it's not done during a newborn assessment? I will also refer to Bates. Thank you!! Raye G.
I didn't do that because some hospitals don't allow the nurse to do that assessment because if done incorrectly could cause a dislocation. The hospital my students have clinical at doesn't allow it.
Yes, you can still use it. As a student using it for clinicals it's fine but if you are planning on working with babies I recommend a Littmann Classic or even getting an infant stethoscope.
I’m sorry if this question sounds dumb but I’m in middle school and just looking into nursing for high school classes. Would this be part of the postpartum unit? I am want to work with both mothers and newborns for assessments like this. So would that be postpartum or a different job? Is postpartum just mothers? Would just baby be NICU? If there isn’t a job where you work with both mothers and baby’s, what is a job only working with newborns that is not NICU? Sorry for a lot of questions. Thank you!
@@thatnursingprof2661 ok! One last question lol. So I have seen a lot of comments saying “oh, enjoy your job, I’ve been stuck in (whatever medical field their in) for the longest time and have been trying to get into postpartum/N&D”. The prophet of Allah (God) made mandatory the practise of Taḥnīk (تَحْنِيكِ) for newborn babies, which is an Islamic ceremony of touching the lips of a newborn baby with honey, sweet juice or pressed dates. Originally the date was softened by mastication by the pious person and rubbed on the infant's palate.
