Honestly, I just loved watching the whiny baby boy get taken to school without the protagonist even realizing her OP magic even activated. Then he decides to wreck everything, all because he didn't get the toy he wanted from the cereal box.
She activated Aether Shell intentionally. She says so in the clip.

It's not magic, it's Aether, in this series that makes it more like Divine power/Miracles and she knew she activated it but was just surprised that her clothes got the slightest bit torn despite how weak she had made the shell. It's confusing because Inglis is able to create Mana from Aether to perform magic, but essentially Inglis is the only Aether user around.

No, she deliberately activated defenses. What she was surprised by is that he broke through them enough to damage her uniform, even though she had also deliberately weakened them a bit to get a better feel for what he was using. None of the later attacks did any damage since she raised her defense a little higher to compensate.
Still, if memory serves, they are just 14 at this point in time?

Don’t let Chris’ awesome aether skills distract you from the fact that Colgate-looking brat staged a hostility during his visit to justify the Highland’s upcoming destruction of the Lowland country they’re in.
The themes of colonialism/imperialism in this anime are SURPRISINGLY robust. Normally in isekai you just have the Japanese MC come over to lord over the natives with whatever cheat skill they’re given. This anime has been such a pleasant surprise.
It's from there I started really liking the Light Novel.
While the comment about this being categorized as an "isekai" can be debated, the following example with op Japanese is absolutely irrelevant, and forced me a brain freeze for a second.

Not really a "game of political/strategic/whatelse chess between two large factions on the field of the third small (group of) /inferior/ nation(s)
@@user-dj9id2ij8i Both factions are evil, it's just that some people in them are kind with Lowlanders and wants to help them (like Theodore), but, as Theodore says it himself, he's an exception of a way of thinking.
I have no proof of what I'm saying, it's an assumption based on the fact that the Altar faction decided to destroy a country where they're losing influence because of the Throne faction who gives them more and more advanced weapons (both were equal at some point, since they both gave a Hieral Menace).
Seriously, in what world would you go in a campaign on a foreign country to arm your enemy ? In a world where they both are too strong and too dangerous to face each other... like during the Cold War.
The amount of budget they put into making his expressions the most annoyingly hateful is just crazy

This scene honestly reminds me of Nabe's one from Overlord, trashing a dragon that was seemingly immune to magic but instead its Inglis bullying someone who by everyone elses standards is way stronger in full view of the public.

I suspect the Prism Beasts are more a side effect of the magicks the Highlanders use to keep their civilization running. It's magical pollution. Of course if the surface dwellers knew that, they'd revolt. So to keep them docile and subservient, they give them weapons and technology to fight the Prism Beasts, make it seem like the surface only endures through their benevolence, and uses that leverage to get whole cities for free without any fuss.
As well as cause the knowledge of mana and aether to be lost so that people believed only runes and artifacts can be used to access mana. But this is all just fine for Chris (Inglis) as it means more opponents to fight.
I kind of have a feeling that her/his old country is them, since their is no record of it.
(Either that, or the next king didn't do a good job, and the country didn't really survive to see past Inglis's death.)

Mana hence magic is just a degraded form of aether and for some reason (most likely for control of surface dwellers), the knowledge of the aether had been forgotten, as well as much about mana and magic such that the people believed runes were needed to transfer their mana into artifacts to fight the magibeasts. Chris (Inglis) could manipulate aether as a gift from a goddess. Both the runes and artifacts were given to the people from the Highlanders. Chris has no rune because she used aether to deflect the assignment of a rune.

I'm still waiting for A Wild Last Boss Appeared MC of that is so OP that even when her powers are sealed because of the laws of the universe only around 1% of power when she is sealed is needed for the majority of fights with some being other characters being around her level with only being matched by the real last boss (the Demon King), Benet (who is her rival and the second person to break the level limit of 1000), and the Creator God Alovenus

Yeah, no. This is exactly why I dropped this. It's utterly pointless and without actually admitting to her abilities, SHE IS MOCKING HIM. 0 character development and it comes off shallow. Watched this clip to see if maybe it changed later in the season but nope. Ultra predictable and shallow. Great on animation though!

@@Schaden-freude It's not helped by the fact she's represented with a sword on the official cover of the first book, then she starts using a sword in book 6 (where she finally finds a sword able to wisthand her full power).
But she did used a sword as a teenager to hunt monsters alongside her sister.
