- City planner Dr Abdulrahman Makhlouf joined the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, in the Sea Palace in 1974, where they designed the main grid and named the streets.
Im a yemeni american who completed a masters in urban planning and they never taught me about planners of North Africa/Middle East. Thanks for sharing this! Im going to read his work!

A grew up in this city my childhood my school my whole world is in it. From 1981 to 2001. I have seen alot . Alot of loved memories.

That’s another great Egyptian architect, Mohammed Kamal Ismail. He designed and implemented the Haram in Mecca & Medina.

In the old days, Egyptians were highly educated than arabs from the gulf. The produced pioneer engineers and scientists in the arabian peninsula.
You don’t think that’s true? The Egyptians literally built the Gulf that you know today. Built and taught at the universities, schools, hospitals and even wrote their constitutions. Not futile nationalism, just facts….

Abu Dhabi emerged from the marriage of the vision of Shiek Zayed to the Talent of this smart Planer, and the result a real great city seen on ground as a fruit of that vision & talent mutual coopetation. What is build on the right basis & foundations, will produce the right results. May his soul rest in peace in his grave under Allah mercy & blessings. In 2016 world wakeup on the death of one of the greatest Design Architects Zaha Hadeed, and now this great Planner. This is life, Time Moves and people comes & go but their great & good works will make their names alive in the humanity memories. Allah bless n mercy Dr Mahklouf.
