  • Hi All,
My road review of the Range Rover P440e Autobiography - it's been fantastic so far, just a few points for JLR, as per the video. I really believe as I have said many times before, 60-mile + Hybrids are really the sweet spot for cars going forward, and no range problems.
The Range Rover P440e is a hybrid variant of the popular luxury SUV, the Range Rover. It combines a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor to provide both power and efficiency. The P440e offers a total system output of 398 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. It can achieve an all-electric range of up to 65 miles, making it ideal for short city commutes or running errands. The Range Rover P440e also features various driving modes, including a full-electric mode, a hybrid mode, and a save mode to preserve battery charge. This hybrid model allows for a greener driving experience without compromising on the luxury and performance expected from a Range Rover.
Thank you to JLR for the loan RR P440 and look forward to more videos soon.
    Regards Richard

Had a big range Rover SV from new for 5 1/2 months now, this is probably around my eighth or ninth range Rover. It’s a 510 E hybrid. Had issues with the heating on the car since October November last year. The car cabin seems to not want to get warm properly when in hybrid mode . Also the cabin mists up when there are several people inside. One thing the car will not do is preheat on the morning when it is plugged into the wall after a night charging. I have to go outside unplug the car and then start the car to preheat it. Rather defeats the point of preheating it with the app from inside of the house prior to going outside. The car is currently with Land Rover looking at the problem with the heating. They have advised the dashboard needs to come out of the car and the possible cause of the problem the part is on backorder so will only be able to make a temporary fix. This will mean the - needs to come out again. Really not happy about this. I’ve loved range rovers for years and the latest one drives more like a car. Turning Circle of the car is quite remarkable with four wheel steer when considering its size. Not sure how Land Rover is going to sort the issue with the heating. it has taken away the pleasure of owning it. It’s one of my cars I’ve avoided using recently due to the issues. If I reject the car and get my money back, not sure if I would buy another one. ?Car was 165,000 new which isn’t cheap but you can argue it’s reasonably priced when compared against a, Bentaga , Cullinan, and Urus. Ironically, the phone also gets hot when I charge it, I would say range rovers were always very plush and great places to be, but also had this utilitarian aspect to them. I now think the utilitarian side has somewhat diminished and there more of just a push car.

Thank you, yes I did have that with the heating - but I remember it being the same on p400. I will add to my list!

What was the heating problem the preheating or the car just not getting warm in hybrid mode?

The issue with the phone charging isn’t just a JLR problem, many other marques have the same problem. In addition to my D250 Defender 90 that doesn’t have an induction pad to charge the phone I run an electric Mini Cooper S E and if I use the charging pad exactly the same thing happens to my iPhone S E and I don’t have any carrying pouch/ protective case on it. Most Mini owners complain of the same thing. I note that in various reviews of the new BMW i5 the reviewers have all commented that there is very noticable air cooling around the charging pad that prevents the phone from overheating.

That is a lovely car, and an incredible fish in the picture.
I find the lack of transparency in the insurance industry to be very frustrating. You can never get a straight answer to how your premium will be affected by changes you can make to the car or to your usage: installing extra security; adding modifications, what things count as modifications in the first place; adding or removing other drivers; mileage limits and the like. Also, the insurance industry rarely explains why the premium of policies changes so much from one year to another. It is becoming increasingly common for people to dismiss the insurance industry as being a den of thieves.

    • @davidgirvan6007

It’s pretty simple. What percentage do we need to increase premiums by to maintain our massive profit margins 🤔

I have owned p400e RRS and currently Defender 110 P400e which is July 23. Both have had max charge of around 27 miles with ev distance of 18-23 depending upon temperature. Pity the 60 mile range isn’t available on the defender or as an upgrade.

Keep up the good work Richard. I love my RR 2023 HSE. The clock is ticking on my March first year renewal of insurance. Would love to keep it. My wireless charger gets way too hot and shuts the phone down, not helpful when you’re using appleplay to direct you! Still think JLR haven’t got a clue what to do about insurance, no urgency.

Hi Richard, enjoyed your review of the P440e. I have the same and went for the 20 inch alloys for the ride quality and avoids kerb rash. The rear view camera is very useful if you are carrying a full load which obscures the rear view or have a middle seat rear passenger.
Unfortunately on the 24 model year they have moved the hvac and off road controls onto the touch screen. Bad move I think.

Richard you’re doing a great job, but you’re saying you can’t insure a Range Rover which is misleading. It’s your particular broker that doesn’t want to insure them but if you used a comparison website you will get lots of options to insure it, price might be a different story in the south of England but you’re really telling us your brokers opinion not general insurance opinion.

It’s very interesting . PHEV I’ve owned a new BMW active tourer and was getting 65 miles of actual range the there was a software update and the range dropped to around 40 miles. BMW wasn’t doing anything about it. The other issue with phev range , they say not to charge ev batteries to more than 80% so that would make you wonder if the extra cost of the car is worth it with an even lower range of 80%.

Great campaignon our behalf, Richard thanks. Just wanted to give to give you and your viewers a heads up on the insurance topic and to give true facts and data …my insurance renewal for my 2016 RRS Autobiography 105k miles came in the post today for renewal on the 16/02/204…it has auto renewed from £630.95p to £1,075.23p…..painful but better than expected based on all the news about this and also , all premiums appear to have raised around 40% regardless of what car you drive. Insurers colluding to maximise post Covid change in habits ? Who knows but just wanted to share.

Range Rover 2020 insurance for 57yo no convictions, no accidents. 2022 price £870 per annum. 2024 price £7,900. Lovely cars, but as a viable range to buy, just like the Escort Cosworths of the 1990’s, a dead duck.

Agree ref comfort and wheels. Im on 21’s - tried the 22’s and 23’s and they were awful even tho looked great. I’m diesel and love it - I’ve had over 600 mile range. Does the fuel flap for flush? Had mine changed, the replacement was no better - protrudes a little and is cheap and tacky plastic! Also yr 24 is all touchscreen apparently - another poor move IMO.

Yes it does have the UWB keys.
Also comes with Secure Tracker Pro as standard. The blurb says that this adds additional authentication to the key fob as well, however no information anywhere on what exactly that means or the benefits over std. UWB fobs.

They did claim they use UWB technology on all 2018 - 2022 cars…..as he replied “absolutely” in the interview. But maybe it’s not ALL given the replies CTR has received regarding keys. Regardless of that, he said the “Enhancement” will help once thieves have gained access to the vehicle. So, are idiots are not locking their UWB keyed cars and how easy were they to start prior to the “enhancement”.

@@davidgirvan6007 in the interview they talked about the enhancements were being regionalised to the most vulnerable regions first. I remember him saying they had improved around 75,000 vehicles to date and they were widening the search for vehicles based upon Post Code.
