    I've just come out of a 2015 GT3 and am about to take delivery of a 0km 2017 570s.
    The GT3 is indeed a special car, but is a grumpy bugger on the road below 3,500rpm. It also sounds rough and unrefined below that. Above that, the exhausts open and she sings like a rockstar. Unfortunately on public roads, that means you generally need to be going too fast to enjoy it. Sad, but true.
    I came out of 2 years GT4 ownership, which was (in all my 13 cars in 12 years here in Dubai), frankly the best sports car money can buy for street usage. It's incredible.
    But I sold it for the GT3 because I simply needed to see how much better the GT3 is.
    On a track, I guess the GT3 would certainly be faster on the straights. But it feels heavier than the GT4 and I never bonded with it like the GT4.
    GT4, you feel invincible and can really use all of its power and dynamics on the road. Which is where we will all spend 90%+ of our time driving.
    So in conclusion, the GT3 is wonderful but you really need a track (or no speed limits / speed bumps) to get your money's worth.
    I opted for the 570s coupe because
    1. McLaren are giving them away right now to clear stock
    2. The dealership McLaren experience is really very good indeed. As others have mentioned, no BS fighting to secure a GT/RS car
    3. 570s feels SO special. Those doors. The incredible exotic looks. The steering feel - wow, on GT4 level (the 991.1 GT3 just isn't as good as car is heavier and it's not mid engined)
    4. The 570s actually sounds good. I've never been a turbo man but this car converted me
    5. The 570s is simply BALLISTICALLY fast. OMG. What an experience
    6. It just feels special
    7. Rivals i tried - R8 - great sound/V10 motor but felt inert and way less special. 458 - feels old tech and a bit fragile. Plus Ferrari are more up their own arse, where as McLaren have a point to make and prove it with the whole buying experience.
    Let's hope the 570s isn't plagued with electrical gremlins but you know what - from my time test driving the car - it's something (covered by 3 yrs warranty/service) that I'd be ok to live with, for the whole exotic supercar experience.
    After all, isn't this 'supposed' to be part and parcel of supercar ownership?🤔😁
    Happy and safe driving to you all

      I like how MClaren also offer 12 year warranties. I can't afford a McLaren ;-; But the Gt3 is cheaper, has optional manual, and has a naturally aspirated flat 6 which sounds amazing :D

    I am a recent owner of a 2019 570s Spider. I also happen to own a 997.1 TT. I do know that the 911 TT is a different beast than a 991.2 GT3 RS BUT I have to say I am so impressed with the 570 that I have difficulty believing that I would place a GT3 above a 570. The 570 truly feels special. It is a mid-engined supercar designed as such and does not have the "baggage" of the 911 evolution. The seating position, visibility and resulting feel from the 570 can't be matched by a 911. And it is a Spider that offers an open top experience without ANY real compromises (visually or torsional rigidity (carbon tub)) to a fixed roof GT3.

    Ok so i'm a little late to the party as Ive just viewed parts 1 & 2 of your McLaren 570s review and its 2021 but Im a Porsche guy who's looking for a new 'thing' so the 570s really just has to come into my field of view. Huracan is great but people hate you in a Lambo. Ferrari is just too expensive and I dont think the Aston Martin Vantage is a step up from the 911 despite being a very pretty alternative. AMG GT?...eeeerm? not sure I want a Batmobile. Audi R8?...get some balls and buy the Huracan which is what it actually is. This review is the best i've seen after trawling through dozens of 570s videos. You have helped me to seal the deal. I love my 991 Carrera 2s but the 570s is in another league...Proud to be British!

    Great video but one critique is that when you switch to the quick shots from cameras mounted on the exterior of the car, its quite hard to hear you over the road/car noise from those cameras. I really don't think you need the audio from those clips to play at that point, it just drowns you out.

    Gt3 rs, because of the naturally aspirated screaming sound and redicilous road presence:) im a porsche guy, but hey I wouldnt complain if santa brought me a 570s this year either;) Great review and awesome dog sir!

    First time I saw a McLaren was in London in the early 90s. Have loved it ever since. Would get this over GT3RS without even blinking. Btw, I live in New York and Porsches here are everywhere. People need to give McLaren a better look and be pleasantly surprised.

    So excited about this machine, I was lucky enough to drive one around the Top Gear test track Friday and the car is silky raw!
    Now I am a 61 year old car nut who plays with Bimmers all day , I am also very lazy with flappy paddles and nearly always leave boxes in auto but this 8 speed box is so sweeeet and easy to use, an every day machine that I really want to own

    Great video. Really liked his point about the "floating" center display (not a single attached piece with the center console like in the 12C) really opening up the passenger space. Nice relaxed and thoughtful tone to the video too. And that dog is cool!

    Ayrton Senna. That is what drives the passion I have for Lotus and McLaren. I fell in love with Lotus when he was driving for them, and when he went to McLaren my passion followed.
    I remember when the Elise was first released watching a documentary about how the car was conceived and built. I don't remember any other car company allowing the cameras into the factory to document development like that at the time. I desired one from that day and have been a Lotus owner now for 11 years.
    McLaren have also allowed several factory build videos. A different price band that one day I may manage to afford. The 570s would be my first choice.

    I bought the 570S and it is SPECIAL! For this money I don't want a Beetle (GT3 RS).... as good as it is. I want something that puts a smile on my face....... just look looking at it. And when I get behind the wheel and experience what it really is about...... grin from ear to ear! I've been a Ferrari guy for 30 years, but this McLaren has me jumping ship and not looking back..... in McLaren orange, with the track pack of course!

    MotorMan - wow! I'm impressed with your review.👍🏻👍🏻 So glad to see this review before heading out to Mclaren Newport Beach. You have put me into a debate on this choice of cars.
    I have a 2011 GT3RS, to be honest, it seems to me that I have a hard time finding something as visceral as the RS so far. I test drove the huracan(I felt the steering may not quite as well connected, then drove the 360 spider in Canada is quite good). But I heard about the Ferrari costly up keep that can bankrupt me. I wasn't keen on Mclaren, my Buddy test drove the 570S and offered me to test drive it. But I had refused it. My thought was if I put out a $200k plus car I would rather to buy something more stunning like the huracan. Just look at the design. Stunning. But now because of your review I will go down to Newport to test drive the mclaren.
    Will let you know...

    Mclaren is now one of the greats they are one of the bench marks like Ferrari or Lamborghini that all other super cars are compared to now (like super cars from Honda, Chevy, Nissan, AMG all compared to them). Lamborghini and Ferrari are house hold names even to non car people, but i can see Mclaren becoming a house hold name recognized by even non car people very soon at the rate they are moving.

    • @Alby911
      @Alby911 8 лет назад

      +justin bouche - McLaren was already a great when the F1 came out, and the fact that they built the P1 to rival the LaFerrari and 918 Spyder. It's not just about the road cars, but also their place in motor racing history.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 8 лет назад

      of course, they have always been amazing for those who follow F1, but to the production car world they were not well known as their own company, now thats changing very fast.

    • @Alby911
      @Alby911 8 лет назад

      +justin bouche - The MP4-12C has been around enough for people to realize that McLaren know how to build supercars; the 570S doesn't change this view,. Whereas the 675LT and the P1 reassures as that McLaren can make bad ass cars.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 8 лет назад

      bongmistt what he 570s does change is the position in the market mclaren is taking, look at the 650s and 12C how much value they have lost.... its pretty bad over 50%
      with the 540 and 570 being the companies base car and 650 being mid level thenP1 being high level they are showing that they wont just be a one off limited production car company but a mass production one like Ferrari and Lamborghini.
      also this shows that you dont need to pay 400K for a good mclaren, it shows that mclaren can make products for a larger audience at a lower price.

    • @Alby911
      @Alby911 8 лет назад

      +justin bouche - Are you talking about depreciating value? It's what McLaren are good at, unless it's their halo car the P1. It's still early days as to what impact the 570S will have in the super sports car segment. I'm not sold on the design with the overuse of carbon fibre on the 570S exterior, and that smiley face is simply trying to hard to be 'edgy'. No doubt it's amazing to drive.

  • @gmansplit

    Both the RS and the 570 have their amazing parts, I honestly couldn't pick between them without driving both of them on road and track. The RS has the sound and NA engine, but the Mac has the power and weight, and is faster in a straight line. The Mac would also be a better daily, but the RS has the proven Porsche reliability and quality. I prefer the looks of the Mac, but the RS has a more iconic, timeless design. It is a toss up for me without driving them.

    Region Florida, currently drive 458 Speciale and Lamborghini Murcielago. I would pick the 570s, not even close. It has so many amazing features that Porsche and Ferrari are years from using like carbon fiber tubs. Plus it has power steering not electric steering. Very impressive McLaren.

    I reckon that if the choice was mine then I'd opt for 570s because it would provide more daily driving pleasure thus more driving fun. If I'd be fortunate enough to choose one as a car specifically for track days or occasional fun then be it GT3 / GT3RS. But then again, how often visit tracks or be able to exploit driving dinamics? The definite choice is 570s due to being more of a car for most of the time without having that ostentatious spoiler in the rear view mirror at all times. Porkers imlpy a perceived quality but so as McLarens lately. Ps. I drive a Merc 😊

    Well, I live near Philadelphia PA, daily drive a 2005 Ford Mustang Gt (manual of course) and love the 570s and the gt3rs. The 570s appeals more to me because it's crazy to see a company put effort into making a "slower" more base model, cheaper car, that competes with such cars as a gt3rs. The gt3rs is the best of the best Porsche puts out (aside from the 918 of course) but on the road a 570s will turn more heads, be more fun, and in my opinion has much more appeal in many aspects.

    I'm not an engineer but I think that carbon ceramic disks have to be really warmed up, maybe even hot to have the most efficient stopping power. That's why they don't have much bite around town because you can't get enough speed to get them to optimum temperature....

    Revisiting your video again. Between GT3 RS and the Mclaren 570S?! The GT3 RS may hold the value better. As my GT3 RS is reliable and not cost so much to maintain. The mclaren seem to depreciate quite a bit on the previous model. Or is it like most British cars. People are so passionate about its British heritage but it depreciate like three is no tomorrow. ?!

    Own the last Hennessey McLaren HPE produced based on the 570S Spider and hands down the car McLaren should have built. 0-60 in 1.8 sec and quarter mile in 8.47 sec. Addition of 620R goodies (wing, dive planes) in addition to vortex generators on the roof, wing, and undercarriage plus turning vanes, makes it claw the ground and eat the lunch of about any super or hypercar with it maneuverability. Absolute Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde transforming from a daily driver to a track demon.

    My choice would have been Porsche back 5+ years ago... Bought my RUF GT2 and tracked it for 7 years, I went through the golden age of cars IMO between tech and analog in the 2000's
    Porsche has gotten too expensive and the competition is too steep. I bought my 326k sticker Mp4 for 180 at the time (almost two years ago) and in terms of f1 tech, exotics look and feel, outright performance im sorry but the 991 GT3 wasnt in the same league for me.. I did over 7k miles on my MP4 and a big 2500 mile road trip, it was the perfect blend of usability/comfort/nutty performance and looks...
    I just got done with the 570S on the track and its just so so much fun.. Also, carbon tub/chassis, mclaren just needs to seriously work on their dealer network and quirks ! But for me, Mclaren any any day.

    Awesome review Motorman. To me the GT 3 RS is not in the same category as the 570S. I would compare this McLaren with the 911 Tubro S instead. Same money still, but both more suited for cruising and carving canyon roads than the track. And if it were my money, I have to admit I'd buy the McLaren. There is just something more exotic, animalistic about it, the look, the doors, the history of the brand. I have nothing against Porsche, and in fact I'm going in tomorrow to test drive some Panameras/Cayennes to replace my DD but there's something special about the McLaren, a "zing" that is most certainly multi factorial. For what it's worth, the Porsche will likely be more reliable, easier to live with, hold it's value better and be easier to resell.As for the GT RS, that's more inline with the 650/675 McLarens, purpose wise. Didn't C&D or Motortrend do a compare last month between the two? I get all of them and forgot which one featured the article.I live in Minnesota, and our garage has a Mercedes GLK, a C7 Stingray and soon to depart Honda Crosstour.

    That's a very tough choice. Honestly, I would have to test drive both and then pick one. Growing up I never was a fan of Porsches (always was a Ferrari guy) but they've grown on me recently. I love the gt3 rs, I love everything about it. I think I would go with the McLaren (just because I've always loved them) and they have some rarity. I see Porsches all the time but It's rare to see a McLaren.

    The RS is to hardcore for a daily. But would be a hoot in the British country Lanes. But I'd go the 570 as it's a bit softer when you want it to be, and asbo inspiring when your in the mood.
    The 570 to me is the best looking of the McClaren famo, but it's a little flash for my British taste so I'd need a garage to hide it in.
    Personally I'd go Porsche gt4, and not the great gt3. As to quote, "I don't have the sack", to push ether the gt3 RS or the 750 the so the gt4 would end up on my drive. 750 is better but to 'showoffie'.
    Tbh the new MX5 is probably a better buy that I could push all the way.

    Just for the record, I'm a super car noob. I drive an Audi A3 and not even a particular fast one (and I drive in the Netherlands). However, I would choose the McLaren 570s over the 911 GT3 RS any day. This car is build as a top performer not as an upgraded version of " poor mans edition". The looks, the dihedral doors, the dedication to aero dynamics, there can be only one choice as far as I'm concerned. Would consider the 570GT if I would be in the market for one. Oh, and McLaren being the company which gave Ayrton Senna the car to become a triple F1 champion helps....

      @gwionrobert3956 8 лет назад +1

      If you smash the carbon tub they would not fix it. They would just write the car off!

    • @iLLustrious85
      @iLLustrious85 8 лет назад +2

      I figure if u crashed hard enough to damage the tub you'd probably be dead and the car written totalled.

    • @iLLGT2
      @iLLGT2 8 лет назад

      On Mclarens test cars, they crashed then reused every carbon tub :)

    • @rufusprime99
      @rufusprime99 7 лет назад

      If the tub needs repair, you are dead. Alternately, should you somehow survive, just replace the tub. But if the tub is damaged, the front, the back, or both are toast too. So replace the car.

      +Elliot James At this juncture . . . only have driven the 570s . . . Probably will have the 570 GT on next . . . Or if we can squeeze it in, a 675 something or other . . . In other words, can't say as of yet so let's put a pin in this discussion.

    Rewatching this one. Having driven this & the GT3 I’d go 570S simply because the doors go up. GT3 has a waaaaay better sound but almost too loud all the time

    i just bought a 570s . its a great car so far (500 mils-1 week) i have owned a 991 gt3 (6k miles) last year and i would take this in a heartbeat over it or an rs. I had the same chose and went with the 570s. Not regretting it so far. But a 991 gt2? i don't know...

    Believe it or not, I would pick a regular GT3. I would be able to push it more and not worry too much about the aero bits and the rougher ride. I would take a 997 GT2 RS over a new 991 GT3 RS, however. I don't exactly trust the longevity of the McLaren systems yet, especially considering they haven't been holding up too well so far.

    For one last drive id go GT3 RS, for the engine if nothing else. To spend my own money on....it would have to be the Brit. The 570S seems to be a more well rounded car and a more complete package, ie supercar, sports car and even a daily if it can fit your life style.

    I first fell in love with the 12c. The tub, the suspension, the engine, the name and its' heritage. This is a little more modern, has some playfulness built in vs the track time oriented 12c. (though the comfort mode of the 12c is supposed to be great) As for the GT3 RS. Good track car, bad road car, and I just get a douche-baggy sense from the drivers of those cars. I'd probably rather hang with some McLaren folks than the Porsche folks. So, the 570s. Live in California, drive a Golf.
    What is ahead of both cars? A 12c Spyder.

  • @blackchang1981
    @blackchang1981 8 лет назад

    McLaren 570s or better yet the GT. The McLaren as a unique blend of elegance and athleticism that the Porsche does not have. Porsche to me has had the same exterior design for the past 20 years (a few minor updates but overall they all look the same) but the McLaren has this refined yet predatory style that is just eye catching. I live in the Northeast and unfortunately I currently drive a Honda but once I get back on my feet maybe one day I can afford one (probably used). LOL

    570S over the GT3. 570 is special and an event, every time you get behind the wheel. GT3 looks like every 911. And you can walk in and order a 570 without any of the BS surrounding a GT3 order!!

    Would have to choose the McLaren. Though you know I enjoy my Buick as it not only fits my budget, but is a nice place to be and very reliable. The Porche, well where do I start, there is no denying its heritage and advancements over many many many years, they have a wonderful example of Germanic engineering and prowess. However I am still stuck that they put the engine all those years ago in the wrong frickin place and kind of just engineered it over many years until they got it down. But still to me it is a very expensive heavily engineered attractive stretch beetle. Don't get me wrong I respect it but I wouldn't buy it. Between the two it would be the McLaren!

    Two things: A. Kinda disappointing Kumo (sp?) didn't take the car for a spin. B. I live in Beverly Hills and in part judge the respect a supercar has with how many I see on the road (particularly Beverly Hills, Encino and the west side of L.A.). On relative terms as I know only so many on any given model are produced/exported to the USA, I don't see very many McLarens (who has a very nice showroom a few minutes from my home). Plenty of Lambos, Ferraris, Bentleys and even Astons - but maybe I've seen 5 McLarens since last summer. That's not saying they can't run the canyons as well as the competition. But *I* don't think it's a car "people" want to be seen in day after day.. It appears it doesn't command the respect the others do. Personally, I think a Corvette Z06 is better looking but as its mass produced vs a McLaren,....
    Bottom line: A McLaren is like a hot blonde while a Ferrari is like a pretty brunette: I wouldn't mind being seen with a blonde for one night out on the town, but its the brunette I'd take home to meet mom.

    I would choose the McLaren 570s hands down! In my opinion in terms of looks its a stunning piece of engineering compared to the Porche GT3 RS overly dated looks.Performance of the two vehicles are similar although I believe the Mclaren 570s outdoes the Porsche GT3 RS slightly.
    I reside in Toronto Canada and drive a VW Golf GTI and I have never behind the wheel of a McLaren but would love to.
