  • The measure allows gig companies and ride-share platforms like Uber, Lyft and Instacart to classify their workers as independent contractors rather than employees.

    This is a joke. I work 12 hr days 7 days a week. Pay 600 for a rental a week(2400/Mo), pay 800-1000 in tolls a month. After all that i maybe take 1500 a week BEFORE taxes as uber takes 50-60% of the cut. Its a joke.

    I welcome Uber and lyft to leave. They’ve been making record profits while drivers are making record low wages. It’s time for competition to replace these greedy and gutless companies.
    Also never forget 10% of Uber is owned by Saudi Arabia

      These gig workers work under their own free will - no one is holding a gun to their head forcing them to do anything!!!
      If the government can do this, they can pass a law to force you to do something you don't like! Didn't think this through did you???!!!!

    Ride share drivers should have the same vehicle, licensing, and insurance requirements as taxi's and limousines, that means a chauffeur's license which has a much higher bar than just you or I driving ourselves. Then rideshare companies pay for that higher skill and professional certification AND now we're back to taxis with a much better dispatch system.

    On proportion 22 it did help us, but not quite when Uber took out from us 80% of our allowance. They were squeezing us so bad and still squeezing us. We got families. The state need to hear us and the labors to hear us too

    The whole point to gig apps is independence and flexibility, if you want to be an employee there are plenty of other companies to work for. Leave Prop 22 alone!

    If you want the benefits of a job then go get a damn job. I don’t want a job. I like being an independent contractor. If you’re not making any money doing Uber or Lyft, then you probably just suck at it. Go work for an employer and get your benefits and your PTO and all that.

    Can someone explain to me without using emotional argument why prop 22 is bad? Does it mean we make less money I thought it means we make more money

    • @rockypatacchi
      @rockypatacchi 4 месяца назад +1

      Prop 22 is needed to remain independent contractors. It also gives extended benefits that other states don’t get like health care subsidies and minimum. Wage guarantees. CA has what’s called AB5 which means under that model drivers would be considered employees. Prop 22 allowed Uber/Lyft to be exempt from that law and give drivers the ability to be independent along with other carved out benefits. The problem is the labor department and other drivers who want to treat this as a full time job would like standard benefits like paid sick leave, workers comp, vacation and unemployment benefits that a normal employee would get. If the Supreme Court strikes down prop 22 it will completely change the business model and we will see Uber/Lyft essentially turn into a taxi company with minimal drivers and high cost trips.

      @@lifeonthewestcoastit’s honestly up to the CA Supreme Court. If Uber spent millions to get prop 22 it's bad for the drivers. They did not spend all that money for our benefit clearly. It's bad since now they can pay us the lowest amount possible. I only beat 22 on the last event by 100 bucks. I am back to a w2 with no operating cost.
