    He must really love this old house. It will be cheaper, less tiring and less time consuming to destroy all rebuild it altogether. He still did a good job. I admire his courage....

      To me, it is important to rebuild this house in its original appearance - and trying to tear down and build from scratch, would end up with a new building that would no longer have much in common with the current one. And it would be difficult for me to do it myself.
      Greetings!

    Great job! I did a similar reconstruction on a log home in the mountains of western North Carolina, USA (25 years ago). Unify the structure with vertical beams and cross bracing, jack it up until it is square and level overall and cut out the rotted sill logs and the first couple on top of those. Then reconstruct the foundation pillars (bolders) and remake the missing logs and place them by hand and cant hooks. It's slow purpousfull work but the end result is a building that has already outlasted several generations and will live on for several more.

    • @prosteprace71
      @prosteprace71  Год назад

      There is a lot of work to be done before such an operation. It is necessary to prepare the house very carefully so that nothing gets blocked for us during the lifting. Of course, you also need to decide which logs are to be replaced and order new ones from the sawmill accordingly.
      And when replacing it one works on the fly because each beam and jam to be done is different and one has to adjust.

    Question: is your chisel dull/not that sharp? Looks like you need to put a lot of force and effort in to the chiseling. Sharpening it would make you work so much easier and quicker

    Dom z bali łatwiej postawić od nowa niż wymieniać zużyte belki. Moi rodzice i dziadkowie w 1960r. przenieśli dom z bali ze wsi gdzie mieszkali do Lublina, legenda rodzinna głosi że dom stanął w ciągu jednej nocy. Belki były ponumerowane, a śpieszono się ponieważ działka była na terenie zalewowym i był zakaz budowy, mimo zakazu w podobny sposób powstała cała dzielnica domków obok cukrowni Lublin..

    Wonder if a spokeshave would be easier than a chisel to finish those cuts. Have also seen it done with a chainsaw being run across it with a light touch. 😮 😊

    • @paulmonk7820
      @paulmonk7820 Год назад +1

      @prosteprace71 I must say you do create a precision fit. I was just thinking these methods would be quicker to get it down to the cut line, then do the precise shaping with your chisel.

    • @prosteprace71
      @prosteprace71  Год назад +1

      The first step is to replace all the damaged logs.
      In the next step, I will remove the old foundation in sections and rebuild it from scratch.

  • @terrytenley9327
    @terrytenley9327 Год назад +2

    I worry you are removing concrete blocks.. Will you replace the concrete with more blocks or use wood? The termites are well established and the concrete will act as a barrier.. Plus some kind of spray is needed to be rid of the termites..or something is needed to stop the bugs..

    • @prosteprace71
      @prosteprace71  Год назад +1

      The entire foundation is to be demolished and to be built decently from scratch. The current one is crooked, cracked and does not guarantee that the house will be stable on it.
      A wooden house is not heavy and I don't plan to go crazy with the strength of the foundation here either, but what is there now is an exaggeration :).
      I plan to make a concrete footing to the ground level. Then will go the stones that I'm extracting from the current foundation, and on top of that will go the brick set on a stile, tar paper on cardboard and only wooden beams.
      This way I will cut off the logs from moisture, and the foundation will be solid and look aesthetically pleasing. I will also do the drainage of the area, as well as repair the roof and drain the water from the gutters.
      And with insects feeding on the wood, I will fight a little using permethrin-based products. But without exaggerating, because these agents have a short effect, and as you will notice, around the house I have 3 more wooden buildings in which insects also live. As soon as the permethrin stops working they will be happy to move to the new house :). And permethrin is a nasty poison and I don't want to live in a house that is lubricated with it every now and then.
      I'd rather that in another 50-70 years, someone will bend over this house again and replace the damaged parts :)
      My warmest regards.

    Witam Pana , trzeba tą chatę podnieść na fundamencie bo te bale prawie są na powierzchni gruntu i będą gnić , to taka drobna sugestia , też mam podobną chatę ale w Beskidach i tam to jest zrobione na 1,20 cm w największym punkcie, murowalem sam to wiem że ciężko jest i powiem Panu że ja nie mam tam wody, nosiłem 10000 l na plecach , a mury są z piaskowca co u mnie dodaje to naturalności chacie, moja jest z 1910 i nie jest tak zgnita . Podstawa to fundament by chata nie była narażona na wilgoć z gruntu.

    • @prosteprace71
      @prosteprace71  Год назад

      Dziękuję za podpowiedź. Raczej nie będę jej podnosił w całości. Do podwaliny w najniższym miejscu jest 20 cm od gruntu. To nie tak źle, a już szczególnie jak zrobimy odwodnienie, odprowadzimy wodę z rynien i poprawimy teren, żeby tam nie stała woda po każdym deszczu.
