Hi, great video! One of the best resources I can find. My headlight stopped working. I bought a new bulb and it worked for an hour and cut off again. Intermittently for 2 days and then never worked again. I have a cheap multimeter with the 2 wires, is that enough to know whats going on?
Wow! That's very instructional! I subbed to your channel. I have the same bike myself, but I've never dug into the electrical stuff... Would you happen to know how to reassemble the tps (throttle position sensor). I know that on the Fireblade, one can use the tachometre to get the adjustment within spec, but I dont suppose there's a similar trick on the 9R? I guess I'm going to have to buy a voltmetre.
NitroTruth, The OEM Part# for the test harness to adjust the throttle position sensor is 57001-1400. The engine has to be at normal operating temperature before adjusting. The standard voltage range is 0.9~1.1 volts. I plan on covering this in a later video, but it will be a while before I can get to it.
@@thingstoconsider5186 Thanks, much appreciated. The engine runs fine without the tps connected, and idles even stronger. It goes into emergency mode, but the engine heats up quite fast, I dunno why. Looking forward to the video👍 can the voltage be measured if you stick a pin/needle into the wires, or connector or somewhere else, is a special harness needed?
@@nitramh24 The TPS connector can be back-probed (while connected) to get the reading. I will have to do some searching to tell you which wires, though.
@@nitramh24 After some looking: If you back probe the connector attached to the TP sensor, the negative probe from the meter would go to the black wire and the positive to the yellow wire. If you back probe the harness connector, the negative would go to the black with a blue tracer wire and the positive to the yellow with a white tracer wire. This is testing while the connectors are connected. I hope this helps you. Let me know if it works.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. We moved and my ZX9R is now in storage. I guess I can start by giving you a list of components to check; 1) Starter Lockout or Neutral Switch Trouble, 2) Starter Motor trouble, 3) Battery Voltage Low, 4) Starter Relays not contacting or operating, 5) Starter Button not contacting, 6) Wiring open or shorted, 7) Ignition Switch Trouble, 8) Engine Stop Switch trouble, or 9) Fuse Blown. Sounds like you have check some of this but thought I would give you a list to start with.
@@thingstoconsider5186 having the same problem on my 98 zx9r after putting the kickstand down in gear. I bypassed the switch on the kickstand but now I just get a click when pressing the start button but can start the bike by jumping the starter relay
@@Immortalbear91 The plan is to eventually go over every diagnostic test for every system of the 1998-99 ZX9R. But, I had to take a break from that for a little while. Hopefully, I will be able to resume soon. If you figure out what is going on with your ZX9R, let me know. Thanks for the comment.
This is a great explanation of the neutral switch operation, first time I’ve seen a vid on this 👍 keep up the great work
Thanks.
Nicely done, I hope there is more to come.

You can use a multimeter to check power and ground to the headlight.

@@thingstoconsider5186 thanks. But it works now. It was inside the junction box.

Where is horn placed ?
Could not find much on it, but going by an illustration in the OEM repair manual, it appears to be attached by the left upper radiator support bolt.
