Wow, what a terrible experience you’ve had man.. I haven’t had a single issue with my xmaxx lol. Although it is pre-upgraded already, as I bought it used. Traxxas 2085X servo, strong servo saver spring, rear HP spool for live axle diff locking “Equal power to both rear wheels” “No drive cup wear”, Pro-line badlands belted beadlocked wheels, aluminum servo horn cnc milled. Steel spur gear. The truck is absolutely perfect. It never breaks. I bought my truck used and already upgraded like this, the first thing I did was tear it down for a cleaning. I replaced every bearing in the truck. And inspected every single diff, gear, cup, bearing shaft there was on my Xmaxx 8S. The truck is solid! Maybe you got a Lemon from your buddy. Also, I do NOT drive my truck in wet conditions! I do not drive in snow either. I have a zero problem experience with my X-Maxx.. And I maintain it frequently, and very very well. I keep it clean, I inspect parts often and it never seems to fail me. The stock ESC has never even failed.. I see them fail due to wet condition driving, or driving in snow. So obviously that must be why yours has failed you.
The xmaxx was abused for a very long time before I got it. Which I knew when I purchased it so I wasn't too surprised at the amount of issues it had. I typically don't drive anything but my crawlers through water. But I didn't care since I knew it was getting rebuilt anyways. FYI the esc blew up before the water footage... some of the Traxxas ones were just lemons regardless of how well you treated them. The guy I got it from had already replaced it twice. Abuse aside Traxxas did acknowledge the issue with them... many caught on fire. Good to know you haven't had any issues with your ESC. That is not a cheap upgrade. I have expected to replace the stock motor but it still pulls strong to this day. Been very happy with it.
Omg! So I bought my first xmaxx that I thought was a great deal and it was the same thing! Absolute trashmaxx! I could not believe how bad it was and the guy seemed like he took immaculate care for it! But boy was I wrong.
I remember when I got my first Xmaxx and did everything wrong. Amateur hour is expensive don't blame the xmaxx when it's operator error and lack of knowledge.
Great video. I have a maxx and I’ve taken it apart five times now. It has that gear teeth missing sound. Took all three diffs apart three times, still I couldn’t see anything wrong.. it does have a lot of driveshaft play but the splines look good. Very frustrating, my truck is 4 weeks old Thanks for the video Update.. it was motor cogging.
Mother of God how can a vid be so hilarious and depressing at the same time!?!?!?! Honestly thanks for taking the time to put this out there. Through your pain mine shall live. Oh, your friend is a f'ing riot too.
I had the same horrible noise yesterday doing a review video for the baby Xmaxx aka Smaxx, so far my Xmaxx has been great, but ive owned it from new n havent beat on it too too bad
Yea, I think I went wrong buying mine used... lol The screeching took awhile to happen before that it just sounded like a diff missing some teeth. It was that coupler not spinning in the center diff the whole time. Every video I found about the mystery xmaxx click had no answers so I was determined to prove what it really was even tho it got a little messy. Lol
I thought about that and even tho the shaft would probably just bend when the chassis flexes, I didn't want it so tight that it could act like a punch during hard impacts. Causing even more issues for me. I kind of got an image of destroyed center diff bearings... lol
Lol I mean I put it inside the diff and took out the stock shim inside the center diff. I put it back together and I turned it with a flat head screwdriver in my hand and it felt nice and tight like it should and would still turn in my hand and that rear pinion gear on the ring gear should be shimmed as well but the fronts seemed to be lined up better to me
Interesting! Looking forward to part 2 to hear your thoughts on the upgrades. For my X-maxx, when it has been that sound, it was always the center driveshaft. I have not had to rebuild my center diff.
Once I got the new center diff and new coupler I checked the old center diff fitment. It was WAY looser than the new one. So those internal splines do where out eventually. That was the original center diff...
I have my xmaxx 8s for about 3 years a ready and just a couple days ago I have to replace the rear spider gears ⚙️ i thing I’m one of the lucky ones 😊😊😊
yeah thats why i like buying rc cars brand new once you open it and service it and understand how it works you know if something is off even by a tiny bit
Men brother I just now was working on my x maxx because it has been ripping spur ⚙️ scraped of 3 in total all teeth gone in tell I took it apart it seems like it’s the center Torque biaisn I think it’s called it keeps sound like nose u was saying it dosnt spin freely and it gets worse why I put the gry square cap the one that going on top of the spur bk shaft I’ve been dealing with this for couple days already so frustrating
I would get a Hot Racing spur gear. They last longer. The Traxxas spur gear breaks a lot even with the proper gear mesh. It's made from very cheap sindered material. The Hot Racing gear is made from steel. Make sure that your gears have proper mesh. If you still have a grinding noise and the front and rear diffs are ok, I would replace the center diff and drive shaft. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is.
You have helped many people, in not ever buying a used Xmaxx. I watched Kevin Talbot for a while before i got mine, so I didn't even drive mine at all before the needed upgrades were installed. So mine hasn't pissed me off that much. I feel for you having to deal with that mess before you even got to enjoy it. Are you near Frederick?
Thanks Brother! Wasn't my intention to steer people away from a used Maxx. There are plenty of good ones out there in far far better shape than the one I got. I absolutely KNEW what kind of shape it was in before I got it. But the price was right and the money went to a buddy who really needed it at the time so I don't regret it. I really just wanted to show the journey that it went through to get to where it is at today. I love a challenge, and anyone can buy a fresh new one to upgrade but where is the fun in that? lol We are in Baltimore, Parkville to be exact. Not too far from Frederick. We do a lot of crawling along 70, usually in Patapsco State Park.
@@rcworkbench4405 I'm about 30 min from you then, there isn't that many people around my area that have the nice larger scale vehicles that will actually have fun with them rather than just look at them, I use my Kraton and Xmaxx the most. I have the original E-Revo too but that thing is like a ticking bomb waiting to break on 6s so it doesn't get much use. I have a crawler but i'm not very good with it. Are there many of you that get together?
@@jamess4527 Yea, we don't have any shelf queens... It's usually just two of us that go out. We had a third friend that got out of the hobby all together, he is the one I got the used Maxx from. Couple guys from the LHS have been wanting to go out with us but schedules have been to conflicting lately to make that happen.
I just bought a new xmaxx 8s, I've driven it for 3 full charges (2x 4s 6700mah). Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it seems to have a little bit of a hitch in the gears. When it's turned off, if I slowly push it forward, it's not smooth. It catches. Is there any reason to be concerned by this? I had an emaxx before this that was constantly blowing out diffs/gears, so... Perhaps I've just been scared... lol
I feel your pain with the Trashmaxx. I could buy 3 new 8s X-Maxx's for all the dough I wasted on the 6s disaster. The damn thing ate like 20 diffs. But thanks to that mess, my 2 8s X-Maxx's probably have 10-15 Traxxas parts each. The less Traxxas junk the better. If it's a Trx part - IT WILL FAIL. I beat the dog mess out of my 6s way more than the 2 8s's just to let it know I still haven't forgot all its BS. It's been 2 years still I figured the POS out & I've only broken the front & rear bulkheads & the chassis twice, all of which are stupid Traxxas parts.
LMFAO I try not to brand bash too much but some of the stuff Traxxas uses is just complete trash. And some of the shoty engineering and design just makes me laugh. I honestly don't think I would have had that many issues with a new one.... maybe. Lol
Not done on purpose after I got it from my buddy. But in the air it was all but unresponsive and very hard to control. The point of the upgrades was to land on all fours much more consistently and easily. 😁
You would’ve been better off buying a new one with all you sunk into that thing. Your buddy beat the piss out of that thing and that’s the sketchy thing about buying a used Xmaxx. Who and what and how bad did they beat the shit out of it. The only way that would have been a good deal is if you got it for no more than a couple of hundred bucks. It sucks man but now you know that truck inside and out and now you’ve rebuilt everything you should be good for now lol
I knew dam well how much it had been abused. I didn't care, I wanted one and it was only a couple hundred like you said. I knew I was going to be dumping some serious money into it from the beginning for upgrades as well... The goal was to get one cheap and do the upgrades. I was going to do the upgrades even if I got a new one. Not a fan of how unpredictable it can be. The bonus to the whole journey was being able to capture it all and share with others who may find them selves having issues with their Xmaxx. Think I showed just about every one of them you can have with an Xmaxx. 😂😂😂
I swear i just watched you turn on your vehicle before you turned on your transmitter and all who know rc as its states in the manual if you were to read it is that maybe why you burned up the esc

Thanks for watching! That was the goal of the video... it was depressing but a funny ass journey. 🤣 😂😂
Mine has weird sound also like creaking sound. New Diff set. Maybe i need to check the Center Diff also
Looking forward to part 2 man. 👍🍻

Thanks for watching! If the front and rear diffs are good all around its def the center diff. All though, I dunno if the 6S has a center diff. Lol
Dude, epic journey. Looking forward to seeing part 2
Thanks, it should be up in a few weeks.
I used a 18 gauge washer for a shim in center diff and my rear ring and pinion was slightly worn so I shimmed that and all is good on my xmaxx now
