  • HONOLULU- The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency monthly test of the statewide outdoor siren warning system, coordinated with the test of the live audio broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System, is scheduled for Monday, August 1, 2016, at 11:45 a.m.
The siren test is a steady one minute tone on all sirens. The steady tone is used to alert the public to any emergency that may pose a threat to life and property. Besides natural hazards, the Emergency Alert System could be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.
When the siren signal is sounded in your area, tune to any local radio or television station for emergency information and instructions broadcast by emergency management agencies. Participating stations will carry a detailed explanation of what the sirens mean, as well as other related information, during the monthly test.
Tests of outdoor warning sirens and the Emergency Alert System are conducted simultaneously, normally on the first working day of the month, in cooperation with Hawaii’s broadcasting industry. Emergency management and disaster preparedness information is located in the front section of telephone directories in all counties.
The Honolulu Department of Emergency Management also encourages our residents to have multiple methods of receiving emergency information. These methods include Nixle email and cell phone text messaging, accessing Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages broadcast over TV and radio and having a NOAA weather radio with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME). NOAA weather radios can be purchased at most department or electronics stores as well as online.

The whole video was recorded at the 10th floor west observatory of Aloha Tower. The first part I'm facing north.
    1. Modulator 6024B at Sand Island State Recreation Area about .44 mile behind me.
    2. Modulator 6024B at Aala Park about .59 mile away slightly to the left.
During the wind down you might hear a STL-10 at Honolulu Community College about .95 mile away.
The second part I'm facing west. Apparently it's a confirmed Thunderbolt 1000T going for three minutes at Kalakaua Recreation Center about 1.6 mile away. Also it sounds like the high pitch Thunderbolt 1000T at the Frank F Fasi Municipal Building about .74 mile away around the other corner of the Aloha Tower.
    Enjoy!
    Temperature
    High 87
    Low 75
    Mostly Cloudy Wind 13.8 mph
