Dave is a much better guitar player technically speaking. But Kirk has written WAY more iconic solos. At the end of the day I would rather listen to Kirk.
When it comes to solos, although Mustaine and Hammett aren’t making much effort since the 90’s, but based on their 80’s solos I’ll give the edge to Hammett. That being said, when it comes to rhythm, Mustaine is untouchable in that department. His riffs are out of this world.
I’m glad that he’s not part of Metallica, because him still being in Metallica means no Megadeth. Megadeth brought to the forefront lots of talented musicians with the most notables Marty Friedman, Chris Poland, Gar Samuelson…

@@mariovomhof2775 He was sloppy back in the day and apparently still was in these newer performances, despite being an amazing guitarist in Megadeth. Not nearly as sloppy here as he was back in the day, but it still doesn't sound as good as Kirk's version. I much prefer all of Kirk's solos on KEA. He kept the first parts of the solos and key identifiable parts as he was instructed to do, while retaining the wild feel/approach of Dave in the parts that he did change. The parts he changed are more solid and fitting for the songs IMO. Kirk hits high notes at the perfect times which really make the solos sound great instead of the more random sounding fretboard "wanking" that Dave did back then, and does here even. Dave's work in his own band speaks for itself, and I know he could have done better here!
