For 3 days I couldn't see any of the comments when the video was posted only to find out 80% of it is Mycaruba and Mike Aruba memes and I wouldn't have it any other way :) Thanks for tuning in and showing love for one of the best games of all time!
I met Kerry a few weeks ago, and she came into the store I work at to get that exact shirt she's wearing made! I was so happy to make a shirt like that for someone as cool as a speedrunner. Wish I could have donated during the stream so I could say hi! Makes me so happy to see she's wearing it!
I found a little easter egg in that shirt just today while rolling up the sleeves!! The shirt is a hit at events and we're still playing the game all the time!! Cheers!!
I managed to beat it, but MAN did it take me forever (I kept renting it till I finished it, lol). I usually don't stick with a game that's overly hard, but this one just grabbed me. One of my all time favorite games, for sure.
Me at 4:50: Oh, it's that guy, from the Game Grumps! I wonder if anyone else remembers that playthrough, it was years ago after all... Comments: Mycaruba Mycaruba Mycaruba Mycaruba
I really liked this game. The art style of the game is neat and very stylized. Just a very unique game. Caves were the one spot in the game that tripped me up the most.
I don't think you can do that fast jumping past the venom slugs in the very beginning in the original version. Once you came too close, they bit you, no matter how fast you were.
I don't know if anyone's attempted it yet, but...could someone on the Internet PLEASE do a song about Mike Aruba and set it to the tune of The Knack's "My Sharona"?
Does anyone remember what that other game that was like this in the Sega genesis I believe. It was in the future and you're a human on the run because you discovered morphic blob like aliens were disguising themselves as humans and taking over. The blods were purple and could stick to walls and move fast. Anyone can guess that game?
@@esotericCD OMG that's it! I loved that game when I was kid. I wonder if they have ever done that one yet, if not I would totally donate for it to speed run.
Like 3 years late to this comment, but you're probably thinking of not just Flashback and/or Blackthorne, but there was a Sega Saturn exclusive sequel to this game as well. It's called Heart of the Alien.
I understand the time this game came out in that it was... _out of this world_ and this game and Flashback were games that looked very different from other games at the time. Very smooth and fluid. But with technology then, I imagine this game took up a ton of space on carts (with the improved versions on cd based consoles) so we have the memorization and execution type gameplay. I just finished this game for the first time today on Xbox One, and I hated it. I'm all for getting "gud" and polishing your skills, but this game was too punishing based on luck. Still, great run. I could never have the patience to play this game so much to obtain the skills neccessary to run through it as smoothly as Brandooates.
All you have to do is press triangle to switch to old style graphics. Unfortunately there's no button to switch to the massive lag the older ports use to offer :)
@@RetroBrandoI used to play this on sega mega drive. Definitely remember the massive lag! I never realized one had to run slower in the dungeon to not get hit by the lasers. Thought that I had missed something important earlier in the game, tried it forever. literally on and off for years because It was the most beautiful game in my opinion. Such a bummer when I looked it up years later! Thanks for a great speedrun
How´s wasting five minutes trying to ram over that one guy a better strategy that taking a one minute detour going up and making the glass lamp hit him in the head? Seriously, the hell kinda speedrun is this? It´s not like is taking advantages of any collision bugs or something (not that I think u can even do those on this game...)
It's way faster if you can get it first, second, third, fourth and maybe 5th try. These skips are really hard to perform but I still managed to get it In the end :,) May be best to check out the leaderboards on speedrun.com to help you have a better understanding.
He spent two minutes on it, yeah, but it’s actually a skip that saves the most time when pulled off. He had been getting it first try in practice and I’d never seen him fail it more than three or four times, but it just wasn’t working out here and he didn’t want to give up on it. The skips might not look hard but they’re incredibly difficult to pull off under pressure as there’s not much of a window for error. In fact, the easiest skip to do in the whole game IS a collision bug where you crouch through a wall at the beginning then reset the game to make use of the checkpoint, but this can only be done on an easier difficulty (which is slower overall).
Runner introduction starts at 0:12.
Run starts at 3:49.

4:51 its mycaruba to you, good sir
It's weird, I played on SNES and always heard "Mites Aluva".

Co-starring Michael Aruba.
After 5 years, the meme has returned. Mike Aruba: the eternal MVP
Mike Aruba sends his regards.
Dang, I didn't realize how close I was to the end when I gave up when this game was fresh on the SNES. Thanks for the great run!

This game scared the shit outta me when I was a kid
And here we are at the 25th Anniversary already
I feel like a metroid-like game inspired by this setting would be really awesome

Absolutely awesome game. Great to see at this event.
I could never get past the prison outbreak and i now know why: That gun can make a shield >_>

When I tried this out on PS Plus I didn't quite understand the appeal, but this run gave me a new respect for the game. :)

Yeah, you have to learn how close you can be and jump, it was impossible to jump mid run in the original game, they will always get you.
The SNES version was a lot less forgiving, also with respawn points.
I love this game. The graphics were absolutely stunning for the time, and once you get used to how it plays, it's not so hard.
My Car, Roomba
I'm seeing that your doing alot of video just makes me wish I could go and see one in person.
Great run. Love to see French games represented :)
I get prince of persia vibes from this game
The only difference between the two games is, that Prince of Persia is actually a good game.^^
Both games use roto scoping for the animation.
Mike Caruba!

oooh childhood memories :) I remember this game to be hard.
Wait, isnt the game longer than that? I played it when it was free on PSN and there were levels past this..
I was running Any% which involves skips. The parts of the game that you don't see is in the 100% category. :) Hope that helps.
That was a FUN run!

This game has nothing to do with luck. Everything is completely controlled.
