  • I've seen in the comments some of you asks "What does it look like when it's fully broken-in?" Or "when should I get a new full leather basketball?" I answer both of those questions in this video.

    That is the most dark chocolate NBA official I have ever seen. A few of mine have gotten nearly to that point but I always retire them before they get quite that cracked. When they get to that stage, they feel fantastic in the Summer on humid days. The grip cannot be matched, but on the flip side, they are awful in the Winter when the air is really cold and dry when they get to that stage. They get super ashy. Even the ones that aren't that far broken in, like mine which is only a few months along, gets that ashy look and feel about them because of the dry air. Also, the cracking on the leather doesn't feel that nice on the fingers. The one plus the Wilson NBA has over the Spalding is that the cracking might not get as severe when they reach chocolate stage because the lettering is more painted on instead of being engraved.
    I see your other ball is a C code ball, which is the type of finish the NBA used to use on their basketballs before they switched to the microfiber composite ball that the players hated. When the leather ball was brought back, they switched over to the leather finish that you get on the U code balls. I prefer the U code balls, personally, but a C ball is still better than any composite on the market.

      The C code is nice, but it feels really slick even after using it so many times. The U codes IMO broken in well, and held that sweet spot longer than the U codes.

      I agree. The C code balls have a slicker/slippery finish to them. The U code balls are the ones I find grip better and are the ones that are used in NBA games.

    I really miss leather basketballs. When they get brown....that's when you know they are right!

    Can you do a video on treating a leather basketball when leather is cracking?

    I got a brand new Spalding official game ball that I never used. Also a brand new Wilson official game ball . also, I have a dark brown fully broken in Spalding basketball like the one you have I love it. I take it to the gym with me a lot what I do to get it to have grip I put it in the sauna for like 5 to 10 minutes

      Whoooa you're heating up the leather before you use it to soften it up?? That's genius!!!

    I owned a Spalding nba game ball and I could never get used to it. It felt like there was no grip to it, probably because of the lack of a cushion. Idk what it was but I bought an Evo shortly after and never looked back since. Present day, now I just ordered the NCAA NXT. I like the Evo but I’ve never liked how heavy it felt compared to other balls.

      I thought the same! But when you get sweat on the nba ball, that’s when it gets its tack!

      Please tell these people Eli! It takes some time to get used to that's for sure, ngl. BUt once you get it on point your shot gets much better because it HAS TO in order to be consistent with the NBA ball.

    Definitely prefer the Spalding Official Game Ball over the Wilson. Much better feel and not as slick. You can control it and shoot with it way better. Mines is starting to crack but still worth playing with. I love it!

      I was surprised at how well that chocolate spalding played after being WELL into being broken-in. Your shot has to be money, but if you can get that down it's not so bad.

      Pretty sure the evolution js a composite and not real leather…. Wilson does make the new NBA ball out of real leather though

    I really enjoy your reviews. I grew up playing with the worn in chocolate NBA official balls. The feel to a shooter there is no other ball comparison. Do you have information on places that resell or sell these worn in type of balls or any suggestions for an alternate? I've scoured the Internet for a chocolates similar and in this condition to no avail and the only other option is a substitute.

    • @Love2Hoop
      @Love2Hoop  8 месяцев назад

      Most people aren't giving up their chocolate NBA basketballs because they either think it's perfect, or no one would want to buy it. The best alternative I could give you would be to find one used on eBay, or get one that's new and buy a leather conditioner to help break in the leather faster.

    So y did you choose to take the older ball to the hoop instead of the newer ball?

    • @Love2Hoop
      @Love2Hoop  8 месяцев назад +1

      The older one imo shoots a little more consistently and the grip is better WHEN your hands are sweaty. The dribbling isn't as good as the new one though, but I shoot more than I dribble.
