  • The Macintosh Classic was released by Apple in October 1990 and was very popular with home users and schools. Now more than 30 years on, unfortunately this model is prone to battery and capacitor leakage, often with disastrous results.
Thankfully Kai Robinson found a way to breathe new life into those irreparably damaged Mac Classic logic boards. After his success with the Macintosh SE Reloaded project, Kai has reverse engineered the Mac Classic and produced his own logic boards.
Today I will continue (and hopefully finish) assembling a Macintosh Classic logic board FROM SCRATCH.

Your absolutely amazing. I came here to learn how to solder. I am trying to fix my wife's earbuds on her charging case. Somehow she broke the charging posts I'm trying to fix them. You are an amazing solder and human being. Thank you for letting me be part of this. I need to get to sleep now. I only made it 2 hours into your show

    *UPDATE*
I have made some important discoveries. I have found a couple of design faults on the board. No criticism to Kai, this is just part of the fun of prototyping!
There were a few pads that were a little large, and were touching a trace they shouldn't be touching, causing a significant short on the board. I also found some vias that weren't meant to be vias, creating another couple of shorts on the +5V and the -12V rails. I have "fixed" these, and am now getting power to the CPU (and other ICs) but still no chime or display.
    More updates to come!

Thanks again for live streaming this! Couldn't stay on for the whole stream but it was a lot of fun to watch this live. Can't wait to see the third (and possibly final?) video of this build.

Apple needs to make 2 new mini retro machines - a miniature Classic II or Color Classic, and a mini retro Apple II Plus or e with HDMI + an SD slot. How killer would that be?

What is this clear stuff your using instead of solder ?

The clear stuff isn’t instead of solder, it’s flux. It reduces oxidation of the solder which makes it flow better.

Not the problem, but F2 might have a strand across it.
