So cool and brilliant. Winging upwind is fun and faster than driving plus shuttling cars. Voile straps would be fast and work great for attaching paddle. Maybe a lightweight, drybag backpack with large opening for stuffing wing in would be ticket for those of us that might fall on downwind. Drybag would keep wing and backpack from absorbing water (weight) making paddle up on foil even harder for us mortals.
Driving upwind is much much faster. Driving 40mph will always beat a wing upwind. Plus you save all of your energy for going downwind so you can get more downwind miles in!
Super cool video, aspirational for me as im on the learning path to be able to do downwind foiling as well. Currently mainly practicing the upwind foiling stage 😂. Thanks for creating the video.

2.5m wing it must have been crazy windy. Love the shot from the insta 360, is that the camera you are using? Love to see a video on your filming and audio setup. What lake is this, we were in Idaho a bunch this last winter on the way to hood river. I would love to hit it next summer. Larry
Wind was about 20 knots that day, the KT Dragonfly board (wingfoilprocenter.com/products/kt-ginxu-dragonfly-downwind-foilboard?_pos=1&_psq=drag&_ss=e&_v=1.0) makes it easy to take off with a small wing. Yes we use the insta360 X3, we have a video on how we use 360 cameras ruclips.net/video/yBHYc-hJc24/видео.htmlsi=7vgTzxGWqD_rSlo_ . This was filmed in Sandpoint, Idaho, the only thing is it's windy like that about once every two months haha! So chance to hit a good day when visiting is slim.
Love it, Gwen. How's the wind in Sandpoint? Is winging growing there? From the other videos you guys have done, it seems like it's a decent spot. But you get around to some awesome spots like the Gorge and Damo said you spend summers there. Is it better than I thought?
It probably won’t ever be a destination for riding. It’s not consistent and you gotta get creative to get time on the water. You have to master true light wind riding and get good at swimming back 😅 Yes the local winging community is growing for sure!
your entire ride upwind was shown as a single port tack, did you simply not show any of the time riding starboard or did you DW foil on an angle to get back to the start?
The first challenge in this is to pick the right front wing that matches the speed of the swell whilst also getting you up on foil. The second (even harder) challenge is to just stand on the board. I tried it this weekend in very choppy conditions and couldn't pull it off. Got close to paddeling up once or twice but always lost balance 🤷♂️
It's not easy to learn for sure, but it's doable! Gwen's first try in Hood River was exactly how you described it. We have more content coming to help everybody learn this new sport, so stay tuned and don't give up!
Fantastic video, did your back pack end up being very heavy with the wet wing? I'm 85kg and ride a 115 litre downwind board. I have been practicing paddling up and can get up on foil ok if the wind is strong enough and the seas are steep. I am going to give that a go my 3.5 wing and 1800 APF foil. I struggle to find any downwind runs that have road access and the logistics of getting a driver are difficult. The wing deflate will be my best option.
Totally awesome..... I can imagine that takes quite a bit of skill and strength, all while filming..... Great job!!!

Great idea!.... lift's my hopes to try out some downwinding, when only lakes are close by. Thanks for innovating the sport, Gwen!
Absolutely fantastic skills and adventure brother! Love it 🤙🏻😎
Fantastic footage. Quality work Damien. Merci
Stupid job be proud with only small boat crossing the sea!
As always, excellent video Gwen!!! you make it look so easy!!!
Thank you 🙏
Well done, Gwen!

It will come, keep at it! So fun! 😁
Cool! Thanks for answering my question!!
Another awesome vid Gwen, thanks. What distance did you wing before heading back?
I'm most curious about your waist belt and camera boom system. Do you mind sharing the components? Maybe you have a video mentioning it?
Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/yBHYc-hJc24/видео.html
Best surfing Idaho has seen ever?
😆😆😆
fantastic idea!!
Is your sound recording just throuth the 360 x3?! Really nice video and crisp sound.
thats crazy cool !! i have a 1090 eagle, i can glide so long ... is Sab foils better for downwind ?
We haven’t tried the Eagle, but I would suggest trying a SabFoil Razor if you get a chance so you can compare
@@DamienLeroyRUclips I will first buy a No limit mast , because its a huge innovation ! After yes, i will test Sab foils

Cool video. What are you attaching your invisible selfie stick to at your waist? Thanks.
Pole attached to a kite harness, home made system, not pretty but works 😆
How many liters is the backpack you used?
26L
Hi Damien, amazing sport.
One question how is your weight, I m 85 kilos what Kt size board is good or recomend for me. Many Thanks!!!!!

Dude !!! Nice !!!
What are you using to film
Insta360 X3
Nice. How many knots of wind did you got ?
About 25 knots of wind on a lake

@@DamienLeroyRUclips I'm in Colorado and it's similar here! But your lake is so huge, jealous!
I am sure you will find something that works! We appreciate you. @@matthewspaeth

I did tack a couple times, but skipped it in the editing so people wouldn’t leave before the SUP foiling part 😅
Sweet! What's your weight for this setup?
160 lbs
Backpack wet wing, harness, camera, paddle, wetsuit +20-25lbs
Nothing for Gwen! :) Damo speaking.....:)@@Steve-l4j9q
so awesome! what a fantastic idea man..love it. Seemed really efficient for 2.5m..curious what the wind speed was that day?
About 20-25 knots
@@DamienLeroyRUclips What size were those bumps? They look fairly small...maybe shin to

The wing doesn't get too heavy really, but the smaller the wing the better for sure!
imagine if your paddle was also the wing boom
What happened to Damien?
I was in Florida so was not able to enjoy the adventure with Gwen! Sure looked fun. You ready to try Jim?
This is psycho.. Not many good enough to pull this off.. Nice!
Also much more ecological to do it like this ;)
Exactly! :)
top !!!. L accent par contre mon dieu...LOLLL
#Pocketfoil would be better option for this kind of ride than Wing… up and down wind …& repeats…
