I've been playing speedrunners for a while and I can say that all my friends feelings were hurt. Good game.
I literally just got in and Leon gives me welcome home present.
I remember this game! It was pretty big on RUclips for about 3 seconds, but then died down really quickly. It's unfortunate, because I really enjoyed it when I played it.
I played speedrunners with my brothers so often back when it first came out. I love this game.
I remember waking up at 6 every weekend to play this with my friends until 10 in the morning when I was 13. And since we all got it as an free Xbox gold game, we all got better alongside each other. Those matches were probably some of the most fun and intense games I’ve ever played and this video really made me miss playing xbox in the morning with my friends.

I was going through my archive of games to stream on Twitch and I got to Speedrunners, and every time I started to fall behind they would slow down for me
Loved this game. Hitting grapple turns makes you feel so powerful
From the perspective of someone who has never played this game, This was a pretty good review. Covered all the pros and cons of this game as well as the hurdles that would be presented in trying to find enjoyment in this outside of certain situations. Solid breakdown of the core mechanics of the game as well as the implications without overexplaining each thing too specifically. The only thing that I think would have made this review better is if there was just a bit more time spent talking about how the workshop content worked and how open or limited creating levels for the game were as having a way to create content for a game can be a make-or-break for keeping some games alive. Overall, good work on this one. I would love to see more of these shorter reviews for hidden gem games.

This game, with a solid group of friends, is some of the most fun you can have gaming. Period.
I wouldn’t recommend paying full price if you don’t have anyone to play with, but if you have even 1 or 2 friends to play with, this is a must-buy.
Yeah I got this game semi recently and was honestly surprised because I was like "Oh yeah this exists... why was this forgotten like 4 years ago???" It's really quite sad because this game just works really well it seems. I also think that this game is more "fighting" game feel than other racing games, which sounds weird but I have this similar idea for it as something like Lethal League Blaze though I suppose that one is more of an actual fighting game, but despite Speedrunners being a racing game, it feels a lot more agressive / competitive / violent in some ways that I would compare to fighting games! And basically what I am trying to imply is that your general audience might enjoy this a bit more than some others. I am glad you made a video about it, it does need more spotlight.

While I think your review is very well done and I’m glad that someone’s bringing the game up , the lack of experience feels like it’s misinforming people , the games very different once you leave the beginner skill level , it’s incredibly laid back but the items don’t really play a role at all anymore and it feels much more competitive, I haven’t played in a year but I put 900 hours into it over the years and I have to say it’s an incredibly more fun game once you learn the basic mechanics like how the grapples relation to momentum works and curated workshop maps
I've installed a grappling hook for Minecraft and I can confirm it transforms a vanilla+ modpack to god tier modpack instantly

-There's this 3 squares-wide ramp on the ceiling, right? I'm going to use it to keep my mach 2 speed with the rainbow trail. While bouncing up and down for half the level.
I'd like to mention that - if you're playing with somebody who DOES know the levels like the back of his hand - There's always an option to get a community-created level next. Or you know, just jump into the editor yourself.

Speedrunners was a mainstay at my fighting game locals back in 2014. It was great, while people were waiting on a set or taking a break between games they could jump on speedrunners. Obviously fighting game players were the sort who enjoyed the depth and getting everything down, so pretty much everyone played it. Also amazing choice on the VA11 Hall-A music!
Speedrunners is a really cool game, and I have a few more recommendations:

and an early access that is really really cool: Play Ultrakill, is basically DmC meet Doom and Quake

I've always wondered why we don't have racing platformers, or at least when we *do* get them they're always unpolished side modes of other games. Naturally the sub-genre has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out before it could be considered workable, and I do think that Speedrunners actually does a good job in places (Like solving the "what if a player falls so far behind they're entirely beyond hope of recovering" problem) but I feel like there's so much more you could do with it.

all of my friends gave up on this game when I destroyed them all 3-0 while I was one handed claw gripping my controller while also being on the phone with my grandma at the same time.... I miss this game
YES, this game has a very high skill ceiling but a very low barrier for entry, it had some great tournaments but the community has faded out since no big content creators covered it after it released

This game went one Xbox game pass in 2018 and one guy in my university residence had it and we played this game for like two or three months straight. It's so fantastic. Couch play with four people and all getting better at the same time was awesome.

But it's nice because like the FGC can be pretty weak for content and I feel going super in depth on concepts can be rather tiring so yeah. Just a nice change of pace

By the way, I'm too busy moving my queen back in time to take your king's bishop's pawn on turn 2, creating a parallel dimension where the only legal move is to recapture with the king thus ensuring I have a mate in 3 or less. This 5D Chess game makes simple monkey brains go "????????" so fast that it separates the super brains from the monkey brains even if they're grandmasters at Chess (no joke Hikaru Nakamura literally couldn't get it in 30 minutes of study and he directly competes with Magnus Carlsen)

My friends and I have all been playing this as a party game for about 2 years, and it's genuinely one of the most fun 4 player games I've ever played, up there with Deep Rock Galactic
Somehow this felt a bit more rambly and unfocused than usual, but not by much.
I really miss playing these party games with friends. Speedrunners and Wand Wars were staples before Covid.

Ah... Speedrunners. Used to play it quite a bit with a group of friends, and loved every bit of it... Until I eventually figured out how to properly use the grappling hook and learned the maps faster than them, causing them to never play the game ever again, good times.
