My great great grandmother, used to make her own fabric books for the grandchildren. The books passed down thru generations. She recycled various fabrics and cut into animal or children or bird shapes, lace, yarn, buttons, and all were hand sewn beautifully with various thread patterns. I remember the large yellow coat buttons she used for the Sun and real cotton balls she used as the clouds and used different colored dried seed for rocks, flowers, etc.. The thick curtain material was used as the book cover, with a ribbon to tie the book or a button for a ribbon or tie back curtain cord to wrap around the button to close the book. All of these were story themed or for educational hands-on learning for children. We played with them, and now our grandchildren do. These journals remind me so much of the creative books we passed to our grandchildren. Ah, the Memories.
