Ross, I have a Marvel Schebler TSX 245 on a John Deere M and it is one where the low speed screw adjusts air and not fuel. I spent a day trying to get it to stop surging at idle. A Good friend said he had a similar problem and after days of struggle, he changed the condenser and the surging quit. I changed the points and condenser in mine and the surging quit. An intermittent condenser can sound like a carb problem. Just a suggestion. Keep the videos coming. You have become part of my daily routine and I look forward to what’s coming up next.
Thanks! I don’t think it’s electric on this case because everything is brand new and when it runs it does run smooth but it’s certainly possible that new parts could fail. I think it’s still mainly the stupid carburetor.
Worth staying up for on a Sunday night. Swap the carb with the 1600 and see if the problems travel from one tractor to the other. My bet is that they will. Get yourself a styrofoam owl. My wife used to have birds using her car mirrors as a pooping platform. She bought an owl, and we put it up. and she has had no more pooping station problems. Doves ignore the owl but they are not the mess makers on car mirrors.
I have problems with mud wasps at my place. I left an old metal coffee can over the exhaust pipe and the wasps built a nest bridging the exhaust pipe to the can. Another favorite is starting the tractor and the fan blows wasp nest chunks everywhere
Chinesium sounds like a very rare and valuable element, experience would differ. Seems to be everywhere! I had no luck locating it on the periodic chart. On a farming related note, I noticed that the disc openers I bought Saturday have Chinesium bearings in them, not pumped about that!
This past winter I started up the Super 88 and found that the throttle was catching. It would open up if you pulled it down wide open, then wouldn't want to shut down again without difficulty. A little investigation showed that the throttle rod was catching on the fuel shut off valve that was installed similarly to yours. Had to make a user modification and now it's all good.
I might be biased but I am convinced that particular carburetor is the demon giving you that hassle. I would not have had the patience you have for it.
I’ve finally gotten to the point I have bought a box of decent clamps for several sizes of fuel line and hoses to. I just toss the clamps that come with most anything anymore. Every time need rely on one it screws me and I’m somewhere remote .
Video was great very informative as usual. My 770 did that hesitant sputter when you grab throttle wide open from idle. It has the marvel carb and the book says open load screw a little and it fixed it. The no lead gas now doesn’t have enough octane so I do add some also a can of Seafoam really did the job. I am going on eBay see if I can find that small valve for gas. That is such a good idea. As always the video was good and please keep them coming!!
Sure does seam to run better, but believe the carb needs a trip to holy scrap pile . Also Iam going on a trip to Michigan on a hunt and capture of the elusive rossquach as one has been seen on the losey homestead during a plowing video. I've have cold mountain dew n cookies as well as old Oliver parts to help in my hunt. Hopefully I will not about fall out my chair again laughing. From turkey creek farms be safe n thankful
You definitely made it "more better" (Quote by RTOM). Now you need to put it on a grinder-mixer grinding ear corn. That would take the ponies for a ride.
I’ve had thoughts of a gas valve for my old vehicles with carburetors. Something about the gas they refine now evaporates and stickers the needle valve closed. Every time I try to start one of them it ends up being a project to un-stick them. With a shut off valve, a fella can at least run the carb empty and let the float drop leaving the needle valve open…
I found that if you shut the gas off at least you’ll have some when you come back the next time. It just seems like there’s constantly problems with today’s gas
😊😊 HI ROSS thats the carb its still stopped up somewhere 😮😮 /U need 2 look and see where the timing needs 2 be set at and use a timing light / that most likely is from the wrong carb and the lingake is bent 😮😮 OMG 1O 2 2O24
GREAT runner BUT the reason you have to CHOKE it is .....the mixture is too lean. I do not see a mixture needle screw on the bottom of the fuel bowl where it should be !! Look in your manual for the correct carburetor for an 880 or 88 . Great video .Thanks
As stated in the previous videos, this particular carburetor does not have an adjustable load screw. It is near impossible to find the correct carburetor that came factory on the 880. If anything else I will put a Schebler on it.
A carburetor that hesitates will drive you nuts. Every time it gets under load the governor tries to open the throttle and it pops then over revs and then the governor tries to cut the throttle down.
Yeah, this carburetor just is not making me happy. But I got enough in it now that I need to use it for a little bit before I put it on the tree stump and send it to heaven
that is a stationary eng carb they dont have a load needle but that enrichment system you called an acc pump some one put one on my 4020 it didnt work well there either.
That carburetor needs to be tree stumped. I am not a fan of sediment bowls, I usually delete them with a ball valve and an in-line filter. Good look. Nice tractor just needs a little fine tuning
Horrible Freight. Yeah I went into one of those stores once. Just another reminder of the decay of America and made me with for the days of Sears and Roebuck where you could buy a quality American made Craftsman tool and never have to worry about anything other than losing it.
OLIVER Ross, I like your videos, but I have bought a 1952 OLIVER OC3 crawler and I need a starter for it which it didn't come with. I'm not going to buy a $700 dollar starter from Zimmerson. There must be a replacement starter that will fit my machine Do you have and suggestions or can I build a starter from another branch
Boy, I wish I could help you more but I just don’t know a lot about those crawlers. I’m sure there is a starter out there cheaper but I don’t know where to tell you to look. Maybe run an ad in the Oliver magazine?
You can buy one of those reproduction carburetors for that was her about 30 bucks on amalove that's what most people do instead of going with the old stuff because the old stuff is rusty and crusty doesn't working right even if you rebuilded it may not work right
All those carburetors I’ve seen are the smaller size. I’ve used one of them before and it works great for the price. I wish they made a large bowl Chinese carburetor like that and I would definitely get one.
There is a what looks like a clock face with a single arm molded into the block just behind the carb. I remember pondering what that meant on my Dad's Super 88 and never figured it out. Do you know what it is for?
Sir I was watching your videos on 1365 and the White and I have a Long 360 DT and they all look the same except for the motor and sheet metal iI having some problems with the hydraulics when i have the my brush hog on it and raised up it jumps I have cleaned the filter and it did help some is there anything you know I can do to correct this and help would be appreciated thank
Yeah, those long tractors are the Romanian built knock offs of the Fiat so basically the same. I wish I could offer you some more definite help but I am new to the Fiat hydraulics as well. Mine were acting up in the one video but it seems to have cured itself after using it. If I understood the people who commented correctly, you can take the cover off under the seat somehow and clean something in there to fix it.
I hate those type of hose clamps especially the cheap Chinese ones. I bought an assortment from Hobo Freight a while back and I might as well have tossed my money in the trash. Frustrating to say the least.
A carburetor without an adjustable load jet is like a RossSquatch without an adjustable wrench.
It’s pretty well useless then.
😂
@@rosstheoliverman 😂
So there was a RossSquatch sighting in southern Indiana?
In all the years of running and working on tractors,Oliver has a unique sound!
So true. It’s a wonderful sound!
I would consider this episode of Ross's home for wayward tractors as a success .
Thanks! It’s coming along at least
Ross you have the 880 sounds like it's running a whole lot better. Thanks Michael
It sure is. Thanks Michael!

Always entertaining Ross. Thank you for taking us along God Bless

Another good video sir
Glad you enjoyed it!!

I know, I hate the stupid mud wasps. They do their work pretty fast and even if you clean it out they build it right back in short order
Chinesium sounds like a very rare and valuable element, experience would differ. Seems to be everywhere! I had no luck locating it on the periodic chart. On a farming related note, I noticed that the disc openers I bought Saturday have Chinesium bearings in them, not pumped about that!
I wonder if over there, they get bummed out when they get American bearings. “Ahhhh, stupid americer bearing! Me no love long time” 🤣

Ready to go

Yeah, are usually buy them by the box full from Napa, but I must’ve got a variety pack from somewhere and it’s junk.

Yeah, I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to make a carburetor without a load adjustment but that guy wasn’t very smart 🤣
Another awesome video there buddy I’m really enjoying watching you fine tune it and get the ole 880 back to a reliable tractor in your fleet
I think it’s running good enough now that I’m brave enough to take it out and do some field work with it
Glad I found your channel! Really good content.
Thanks for watching Brad!!!
I think when you tighten up the governor from bucking, your sputter when you crack the throttle may go away too.
That’s very possible. I need to get back at it one day and mess with it

You certainly got the right kind of bait to catch Rossquatch but I’m not sure what you’d do with it once captured. 🤣
Lol put him to work
Yep, more better. But I believe you still need a different carb.
I agree. I found another Schebler in my parts stash that might work
You definitely made it "more better" (Quote by RTOM). Now you need to put it on a grinder-mixer grinding ear corn. That would take the ponies for a ride.

Bottom of the carb doesn't have an adjustment the plugs are fixed jets need to clean them good . May need to use tip cleaners
Yeah, they’ve been all apart. I think this thing is just possessed by demons.

Thanks Paul!
There a check valve that’s fits under the accelerator pump .if it bad it will stubble like yours doing
Well the one I had was in pretty bad shape but it did go up and down. Do you know of any source where a guy can get a new one of those check valves?
Drill bit time for carburator
I thought about doing that. But if you go too much you’re had
that is a stationary eng carb they dont have a load needle but that enrichment system you called an acc pump some one put one on my 4020 it didnt work well there either.
What is the disconnected wire up at the backside of the dash?
I think that’s for the hydraelectric. I remember looking at it but didn’t really pay much attention
I am curious as to which carb should have been on that 880? I know a lot of companies liked to use the Zeniths for replacements.
It’s supposed to have a zenith, but a different model than this
my early 880 has a MS TSX-775. Thought it was a major problem but just a float that wouldn't fall. Now runs super.
Great video. But I must say that carb needs to be taken out to the woodshed. Thank you.
I agree with you Keith 🤣🤣🤣
Ross, do you have any plans to rebuild/repair the power booster?
She's a really nice little tractor, and it sounds super healthy, too!
I want to eventually. It’s just a matter of time
Yea , time there just isn't enough of it.
Where are you getting your parts from? I’m trying to get all new filters with little luck.
Ricksagparts.com is one source. Another is importtractorparts.net. If you can find any numbers on the old ones maybe a Napa can help you cross them

Get some rubber snakes at the dollar store , should scare the birds. Looked like water in the fuel
