I miss when popular Warrior Cats MAPs didn’t have to look like they came straight out of a Disney film to be considered good... don’t get me wrong, I love the ones that come out today but I also liked when artists on different skill levels just came together to create earnest projects like these
I get what you mean. I’d say the MAPs were most exceptional from 2011-2016. There were a variety of animation levels, and therefore, a variety of animation styles as well. I also really liked how they was lots of frame by frame animation. Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of animators have moved away from frame by frame and accepted tweening and still frames as the new norm.
@Leaf Dolphin there isn't a trend. going by the art from your most recent unlisted video, your art (while still good in it's own way) has a lot to improve on. the lines are very large and uneven, and the coloring has little to no shade variation. it looks like a doodle made on a phone. that wouldn't be considered to be on the same level as "everyone else." and i suggest aiming for beginner maps over high-end ones. and, for the record of the initial comment, map hosts have every right to be picky about their animators. youtube has become more professional since those days and so has it's animators; many people use their map parts as a showcase for their talents for their future careers. having someone like sagutoyas or finchwing do one map part in the "disney-esque" style then have some flipaclip animation in the next part would be completely disconcerting and would reflect badly on the map. there's different maps for different skill levels, and it encourages improvement.
I'm on a Warriors nostalgia trip, and oh my goodness, I still remember just watching people's parts and waiting for the complete map. Seeing the usernames of the animators in this though, ahh, feels. I hope wherever they are now, and however they may be doing, that they're okay. Kudos to them for being in the Warriors fandom and creating amazing things like this for me to watch during my childhood. This is definitely one of the more iconic Warriors map for me.
