He definitely does good job At what he does. Mine is repair order number 23 and 24 of this year Can’t wait to get them back Hope to hear you out there 209 from Colorado
Larry can I ask you what shop or person did you get that from ? , You don't have to reply with an exact name as to keep personal things off of here ... The reason I ask is that I bought 2 of those amps brand spankin new back in the day , then a fella came into my shop and spotted them , he made an offer that was too good to be true and they went out the door and I had a smile on my face and he did too...But If you got those out of the Baton Rouge area or someone that got those from that area then that one was mine at one time, one I did use 2 or 3 times , the other one never got used ... ...... Now forgive me for being foggy , but I had a stroke a few years back .... I used to own a few of the Eagle amplifiers back in 1980 era .. 250 , 500 and 750 .. 20LF6 back then were 27 dollars for GE phillips , I think ...Anyway I signed both of those amps , in case my shop would ever get broken into ....Those 525 amps were made after the original 500 and 750's were made....Anyway I'll wait for a reply from you ...
the jack on the back of the amp is for a crystal. that board is not a keying circuit or a low power driver. it is an oscillator circuit, and was indeed what allowed this beast to be sold in the US as a ham transmitter. there was also a mod that needed to be done on the output tank coil tap in order to tune it for 11 meters. those tubes look to be the originals for sure, and are some of the rarest sweep tubes around. beautiful amp!
Wow that's how AMPLIFIERS DID LOOK LIKE. not silly bloody RM amps and many others I could mention. Thanks for letting us see this wonderful old school amplifier and how it was done , but war and many other factors called money , and mentioning no certain countries, ie cheap as chips. But going back to this work of ART. Thanks again Alan from ENGLAND 💯👍
It's absolutely wild to see what one of these makes when they're not clapped out. It's probably more wild that the FCC mods hadn't been pulled. The sweep tubes in that box have to be a fortune at this point.
Hello Fellow Amphaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The World Famous BBI AMPS: Luke what a terrific piece of vintage hardware. This is definitely a find for the books. IMHO all this old girl needs is little massage from those gifted hands. Well Done as always, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.
My "POW" box is built on a Maco design....and has 2 of the big 750 transformers and a smaller transformer for the filament voltage...I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO GET IT TO MR. BBI....ALL ORIGINAL AND JUST AS CLEAN...WEIGHS AROUND 80lbs.
Be careful with the shots sir. I received two in my right shoulder and felt great! I meant no pain a full range of movement restored! Well, a month of throwing feed sacks over my shoulder and pop. Tommy John surgery to reattach the two muscles. Over a year to get over with physical therapy. Please, be safe.
Probably been covered - XTAL = Crystal so that socket on the back is a crystal socket so you can do a spot tune - IE with a 27MHz crystal, it can make a 27MHz carrier when you enable the spot tune. It just allows you to tune the amp without having to key a radio. This feature will NOT work without that tube that is missing.
You are right! That is what I was thinking also! It must be a small AM-TX, for 'tunning' the amp. The 'XTAL' should be a quartz in the CB-band. The RCA- connector is for 'Manual-PTT', or 'Relais-PTT', something like that. Maybe this small AM-TX is also modulated, and will made you life easier, tunning this perfect looking device! Look for the 'Spot-Tune'- switch on the front panel, maybe this is for the 'small AM- TX' and the 'Instant-Tune' device? I loved to see, something so nice and realy shining! Beautyfull! My heart will 'warm' a little more, ... and do some 'beats' more than normal! - Hah! Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native tounge. If you find any mistake in spelling or grammary, be so kind and appologies my faults. 73 de Markus - db9pz JN39fq - 3miles/5km east of LX -
I used to have an Eagle 500 that put out nearly 1KW with my Galaxy Saturn driving it. Too bad I couldn't afford to re-tube it - even back in the early 2000's I didn't have the money. Tube prices are AT LEAST 200% higher NOW! What is the real difference between this 525 and the 500? 7:20 were they playing the same game that D&A did, by calling it a "CW Transmitter?" If so, the socket is probably for an oscillator tube.
I had the kenrich eagle 515 back in the day. Did over a kw with 20lf6 tubes. The amp and insides look identical to this 525 other than the extra meter. I'm curious of the actual differences between the two

Yes and my old Amp Supply LA 1000 wants some. A little old lady only ran CW on it on Sundays.
Kenrich, nice amps. I sold a boat load of them.

I didn't know.. very informative video, thank you BBI
XTAL stands for crystal
It's an old crystal socket
Surplus store always had a musty canvas smell and boot leather back in the day my dad and I would go 40 years ago.
I had an Eagle 1000 years ago. It was a cranker.
I would definitely run it on the conservative side. 20lf6's could be hard to find these days. 😁
Gotta love when ya gotta put the maul down on a neighbor... run them 800 watt dead keys outta a 6 pill, hahahaha.
great job bbi
