On April 26, 2024 Finally CP #2816 was on her way from Calgary Alberta, to Mexico City for the First time. I chased CPKC 40B from 9 different locations from Calgary Alberta to Medicine Hat Alberta. And for some reason she had a lot of diesel helpers including CP 1001 Hydrogen locomotive. The highways beside tracks were filled with tons of people and photographers watching 2816 run by!

Whoever said "let's run the 1001 with it!" and whomever agreed that was a good idea messing with this nice, otherwise matching train set needs to be slapped soooo hard.
No slapping! Besides it got dropped off at Dunmore yard so that means the train is all Royal CPR scheme

NIce footage, I caught her on cellphone crossing the trestle over the Swift Current creek, in Swift Current Sask on Saturaday.
That whistle you hear in the first clip sounds a lot more like a whistle than the other one it uses.

What whistle Is 2816 using
0:28 that’s 2816’s original Canadian Pacific 6 Chime whistle
1:39 2816 also has a CP Air Chimed Whistle it uses as its secondary whistle

Why are there always diesel engines with steam ?
IDK? To help push the steam engine up rough hills
Head end power (electricity for the coaches) and to act as backup motive power in case of a failure of the steam engine.
Also because of PTC per FRA regulations no engine can be run on the mains without being equipped with or have secondary power equipped with PTC instead of ruining the history and modifying the steam engine they use the PTC system from the deisel engine and also you are correct it supplies power and if there would be a failure of the steam engine the deisel could take over or help it if you want a better and more detailed explanation go check out Hyce’s video on the topic he explains it very well
Actually the 2816 is fitted with a self contained PTC system, they just hid it very well, the F-Units were there in case 2816 broke down, because the show must go on, and it's not like they can perform major repairs all the way in Mexico, the F-Units at least fit in a lot better than a modern freight diesel does... @@tvmrails1517
