    Hi Adam, it's possible to retrieve access and permission information for workspaces via Power BI REST API. How can I programmatically retrieve the same information on object level (Reports, Dashboards, ...)? I know the info must be somewhere but I was not able to find it anywhere :/ Extremely helpful content in every video. Thanks!

      Hi Mehdi, unsecure publish to web = no licence. Sharing Reports/Dashboards/Apps = Pro or Premium (with premium the end user doesn't need a licence). Sharing via Power BI Embedded in a website is a different licencing structure based on page interactions azure.microsoft.com/en-au/pricing/details/power-bi-embedded/

    Hey Adam,
    Great video and thank you. Currently MS Teams doesn't support the new "APPS" security. Meaning......when I publish a couple reports in my app workspace to an app and then give users access to the app. They aren't able to view the data when I embed it in teams (they just see X's on all the visuals). BUT when I make those same users a member of the actual "APP WORKSPACE" and not just the published app..... then they can see the report in teams. Do you know if they plan on fixing this?

      Same here - our whole issue with Power BI right now is that the BI team pipeline, report creation, shared data sets, source/version control, has zero integration with Visual Studio and TFS/Azure DevOps... especially for those of us who can't use the PBI service and are working with PBI Report Server. SSDT really needs to be updated to support PBI report development.

      WhoWouldJesusBomb Have you tried? don’t think it’s possible. Publishing to SharePoint and to Web is a completely different stuff and is done differently. Publish to web is for publicly available pages, which is not the case for share point.

    I have 2 reports: one is a financial report another is a sales pipeline report.
    There are 3 kinds of users: first need access only to financial report, second - only to sales and the third kind - to both.
    I am struggling to understand what is the best way for me to do this. I could make 2 reports in the same Workspace and share them with different users. Another option - is to publish 2 separate Apps, but then - it requires 2 separate Workspaces. It is confusing - please advise. Thank you!

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube 5 лет назад +1

      Today that is a challenge. The general approach I would recommend today would be to have two different workspaces and 2 separate apps. This will get a little easier when shared datasets are available to only have a single data model, but the distribution piece will still exist. Another option would be to go down the embedded route to fully control the experience.

    Hi - Great video - thanks! However like Noah, I wasn't looking for "consumer" collaboration, but rather for those working on, developing, maintaining the PBIX file itself. What are the best ways to do that? -- and while I haven't fully explored it, I think the answer to my own question is the App Workspace!

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube 5 лет назад +1

      Correct. From a report developer perspective, the App Workspace is where that work will happen after the report is published from Power BI Desktop. And then from there, you enable the consumers through features like Apps and sharing. Dev/Test/Prod would be done from the app workspace perspective. Or at least Dev/Test. You may take the approach of using the published App as "Prod".

      You are in a tough spot. The only way to view a report with no authentication is Publish to Web which is not secure at all and recently had some changes to be more restrictive. Publish to Web is your only option. If you do use that, please don't put sensitive data within it as it is an open URL with no authentication.
