I have a question about breeding silkie hens. If I took a pure bred silky rooster and breed it with a Brahma hen? Could I take that cross breed off spring and breed it back to a pure silky to get back the silky feathers? From a cross?
I don’t really have an answer because I’ve never bread those genetics to get the results. Facebook groups has people with that knowledge because they have done it. Hopefully that was kind of helpful to get you in the right direction.
Hey Charlie I'd like some advice please!! I have a Partridge Silkie Rooster Over a white silkie, a white Frizzled silkie, and a black Frizzle silkie what colors do you think the offspring (chicks) will be?
For one pair and you never let them out their entire life it’s recommended that you do 6‘ x 6‘. If you do let them out on a daily basis that goes into a run then you can go smaller just as long as they get out daily. Once they’re a custom to a bigger space they don’t wanna go back to a smaller space or they get stressed. Always give your animals the biggest space you can possible just to prevent diseases and health behavior problems. Boredom can cause all kinds of issues And being in close can cause all kinds of diseases developing in your chickens. People have more disease problems with confine chickens versus free ranging or a large run covered. Cages are not recommended but coops , runs and pens are. Good luck

You’d be surprised! Those feathers actually don’t insulate them as much as you think. They actually have a tougher time with cold weather. Just some frozen peas as treat to cool them down every now and then and they’ll be fine
