Thank you! I’m sorry I didn’t have that in there. I typically slide it in with the hose facing the inside of the pack so I don’t feel it poking into my lower back. Thank you for watching!
So great to get this information. I just got a new daypack by Osprey (I love Osprey bags) because I wanted an internal bladder inside of water bottle. 2.5L/85 oz vs. 4 water bottles seems to be a no brainer. My Best Practice question is about 'emptying the bladder' after a hike. I have about 5 oz ish left over. Should I drain that and dry the bag after my hike to keep it happier? also thanks for the tip on the cleaning brand :) nice to save some money especially when good gear always costs a bunch :)
Hi Sheri! So glad to hear you liked the video!😊 You should always drain any leftover water and dry it after every hike! If you are hiking 2 or 3 days in a row you could get away with just draining and drying once you are done but making that a consistent practice will keep it cleaner and help it to last longer. Thank you so much for watching! So glad I could help!!😊
Great info! I just got an osprey hydration vest and was wondering how to clean it - I am going to use your link for the cleaning kit! Have a great weekend!
You’re welcome! I knew that was going to help a lot of people so had to make sure I put it in there. Thanks for watching! I hope you’ll subscribe to the channel and check out some of our other content!😊
Thank you! I got the product and I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to open the darn thing. I bought a bite valve cover that I need some help on how to install that.
Forgive me if this has been answered or is too basic but I can’t find anywhere which way the bladder faces in the pack. Does the solid side face the pack our your back?
Unfortunately the quickest way would be to pull the bladder out, open it and pour. You could try pinching the mouthpiece over the bowl but it would probably take a long time to get enough water out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the Tutorial. Quick question: when placing the bladder into the pack, does the hard backing face your back or does it face the interior of the pack?
Great question! Personally I put the hard back towards the interior of the pack. The sleeve between it and the interior of the pack is far thinner which can sometimes create a little bit of an issue when loading items because of the tubing pieces jutting into the pack interior. Also in the winter time it is nice to do it that way because there is less of a barrier between the water in the bladder and your body heat which helps to prevent freezing in extremely cold temps. At the end of the day though I don't think it matters all that much. I just like to be as efficient and thoughtful as possible!
Great video! I have a question about the connection between the tube and the bladder itself. Is this a click system like the camelbak or does the tube slide over the bladder bottom piece? I've had problems with tubes sliding of the bladder piece, leaving my whole pack wet😅 is this connection solide?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! It is actually a more complex connection that is "fused" together I guess you could say. I don't believe it comes apart at that point making it one of the strongest and most solid connections!
Hi Danalyn! Thank you for watching our video! Ws use a Katadyn Water Filter. It is our favorite method for filtering water because, unlike Iodine tablets, you don't have to wait hours for the water to purify. You just stick the hose into the stream/river and put the other end into your water bottle and then pump until it's full! The water goes through the inside of the device and gets filtered and then comes out clean. The other great thing about it is that you can connect it directly to the osprey bladder and pump the water into it. It is fantastic! Let me know if you have any other questions!
What about those of us with a big modern rucksack that doesnt have a water bladder adaptive hose hole etc they should just create a universal add on external bladder pack
Honestly haven't thought much about that. I agree though! If there was a universal add on that would fit these bladders it would be pretty awesome! The hose could just be fastened to the strap with wire or twine. I am going to look into it and see if there is anything out there. If there is I will let you know!
too bad Osprey is not using that quick connect bladder anymore. Its a separate purchase now. The pack is super great quality tho' so I am impressed with that. Guess I'll have to cough up the $30 to buy the good bladder and toss the old one I got with my pack.
Aw I hate that they did that! I would say it is still worth the money though because osprey’s packs and bladders are going to last you forever and they work so well! Thank you for watching Jill! I hope it was helpful!😊
It is safe to use, however, most of the time it will stain the bladder and increases the chances of the bladder growing more bacteria. If you are fine with it turning colors and you make sure to clean it with tablets after each use as well as occasionally using a cleaning kit you should be totally fine!
@@JourneyMore thanks! Looks like this would be a perfect match for my Volt 75 and my son’s Volt 60. Headed to Philmont NM next summer. I don’t like carrying extra water due to weight, but it’s good to have the extra capacity on hand for hikes where water may not be readily available.
I definitely agree! I have had many friends go to Philmont and they loved it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the trip during my scouting days but I'm sure it will be an incredible experience! I'm glad this was helpful to you!
I would recommend it! Also, you will notice your water has a plastic taste when you first use it. There are 2 ways that can help fix that: 1. Remove the hose from your bladder and squeeze the juice from a whole lemon into your blatter and fill it with water. Put it in your freezer over night then take it our the next morning and let it dethaw. 2. Put about a 1/2 cup of baking soda in the bladder and fill with water and run it through the hose to fill it. Let it sit over night then next morning pour it out and clean it. Both of those should work! I would recommend the baking soda option first and if it doesn't completely work try the lemon option. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!
after many times of using do you think that it will be free of plastic taste??and is it keep the water cold for a day hiking??in a warm day,,thanks for helping
Great questions! We actually still had a bit of plastic taste even after a good year of use. So the best way to get it out is to use lemon juice in the bladder. If you watch our other video "how to clean your bladder" that will walk you through the steps of how to use the lemon juice to get the taste out. Once you do that it takes away the plastic taste. The bladders themselves are a thicker material which helps insulate the water to keep cool. In our osprey packs the backs where the bladders slide in are insulated and it really does keep the water cool all day. We have done 15+ miles on 90+ degree days with our day packs and bladders and the water was still cool at the end of the day. Thanks for watching! Glad we could be helpful!
Thanks for this - I just got my first Osprey hydration bladder - and even if it's not the one you recommended, I'm pleased with the magnetic attachment! Any tips on how to route the tubing, though? How much can they bend?
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! The magnetic attachments are a great addition. The tubing can take a lot of bending, however just be careful with it! On my day pack I run it out the top between the straps and down it's right shoulder strap. On my osprey day pack (Skarab 32) it has 2 small straps that I run the tubing through and that holds it in place. Then I can just attach the remaining tubing to the magnetic piece. I hope that was helpful! If I misunderstood your question please let me know and I will reclarify!
Thanks for the feedback Wesley! We have definitely figured out the audio since so hopefully the newest videos you won't have issues with! Thanks for watching!😁
Sorry about that! It is really just sliding it in! I’d make sure the backpack is empty as it makes it way easier to slide in when it is empty. I usually keep the hose to the inside so the flat part of the bladder is up against my back. Definitely more comfortable that way!

Please, show how do you remove that gray connector from the hose to clean that botyom part.
which Katadyn water filter do you use with this?

It says on the bladder that the hard back faces the user. I double checked with Osprey and they confirmed that the hard bit goes against your back.

Do you know if it’s safe to use water flavor additives to these? That may also mask the taste.

Are you asking is the bladder can be turned inside out or can it be put in the pack either way?
