  • Breaking bad news is one of the hardest things we have to do in life. Whilst it may be upsetting, when it’s done skilfully it can improve understanding and reduce anxiety, as well as bringing people closer together under difficult circumstances. In this video we look at some of the pitfalls to avoid when breaking bad news and recommend skills and techniques to help you. The principles outlined in this video can be adapted to different situations, such as breaking bad news over the phone or online. Remember that however you do it, creating space and time for the other person to hear, absorb and react to the news is the most important first step.
