One thing else about the inventory slots. The gear that you are wearing counts against that initial 20 slots, so if you have all 6 gear slots filled you really only have room for 14 additional slots. As the OP has stated you really want to focus on the Main Quest line until you have unlocked your Talents and gotten into the Room of Requirement. Because those Talents are so important and you will get more spells along the way.
Actually there are differences when playing as each house but its only obvious once you play as that house. there are occasional House only pre-quests that lead into central story quests. For example, how you meet Jackdaw is different. For Gryfindor you join Nick trying to recruit him for the headless hunt, For Slytherin you investigate a secret cave with Scrop the Elf, with Ravenclaw you search the Owlry

Thanks for the tips. Just came to watch this because Hogwarts Legacy is my first “gamer,” game and I’m a bit overwhelmed at all the controls and aspects of the game. I mostly play the Lego games and Mario Kart… I’m in my 30’s, don’t judge! haha

There are other side quests that have a different icon than most you'll encounter and those can be missed if you progress too far without doing them. Get those done first as not to miss out

I have the room of requirement next - and have been lost as I don’t play a lot of RPG’s and am just a huge Potter fan.

For your playthrough, don’t worry about your house, if you’re playing specifically for role play and to immerse yourself within the nostalgia, it’s important, but if you’re a trophy hunter who wants to unlock all achievements in the game, it won’t matter what house you choose, as you’ll have to be play through the game as a character from all of the 4 houses to do so, the only thing that’ll matter more than that, is Ofc your wand, as you’ll have to look at it as well as it’s description and if you don’t decide well the first time, you’ll find yourself ( like me many times) reverting to a good ol manual save made just before going into Ollivanders to choose your wand.
Something I always do at the start of my playthrough is earn Accio and Levioso, and use these two spells in conjunction with Revelio to grab as many field guide pages as I can within the areas of Hogwarts castle I have access to, as well as venturing through hogs Meade and grabbing those ones as well, by the time I finish the main quest in hogs Meade and wake up in my dorm room, upon quest completion I find myself levelled up to 15 every time, this also means that enemies ( if you play the game on hard) will also be more challenging , but if you plan to play on story or easy, I wouldn’t recommend levelling up too early as it can ruin the game.
Something I also try to do is kill at least one troll where I can find one , to collect boogies, I also run around hogwarts and hogs Meade once I’ve obtained the transparency spell to collect the white jumping one eyed chests for 500 galleons a pop, so that I can purchase my large pot , for the fluxweed stem, a focus potion, maxima potion, thunder brew potion, invisibility potion, as well as a mandrake seed, or simply the mandrake itself, as well as doing the quest for Duncan that opens up the part of the greenhouse that gives you free Venomous tentacula, as well as collecting all the chomping cabbages.
I tend to collect all those items, so that by the time in the game I start unlocking assignments from professors with new spell rewards, I already have the items in my inventory, and it’s just a matter of going out using them to complete my quests.
Having some things done ahead of time makes the game smoother and less tedious, as sometimes you can’t fast travel or leave areas when engaged in quests and it can be inconvenient once you realise you don’t have what you need for a certain task, later in the game, the ability to prepare like this vanishes as most things are level sensitive and you don’t have access so enjoy it while u can I’d say

if you do the affiliated Website quizes and you do it til you get the right answer\outcome, you can get the elderwand ot whatever its called..
Its not better than others just cool to have the "most OP wand" in HP universe.. (eventhough in game its same as the rest)

Also just throwing this out there because I wish I knew: but with the talent/skill trees- there are 3 levels of talents you can unlock but you do not have to u block every talent/skill on the level below it to be able to unlock a higher level talent. You can pick and choose any/all talents and take any so long as you have the requirements and points for that level. A lot of other games you need to have unlocked every skill from the lower level to be able to unlock a skill from a higher tier.
I’m currently downloading this game. I’m not really big on the whole wizard thing but Legacy has been on my list for a while, so I figured why not.

If the ring around your head in combat is yellow, then cast protego. If it is red then do the break or whatever the spin move is called.

Quick warning: minor game spoilers below, but nothing about the main story.
I know there are a lot of people that really just enjoy exploring an open world, and this one especially is great for that- particularly the school itself. However, I'd recommend holding off for a bit.
Best tip I've seen: Especially early in the game, focus on the main story quests and the assignments. There's so much that is locked behind main story progress such as flying, talents, room of requirement (kind of like your player housing), and beasts. It also gives several spells, and so do assignments.
I'd say to do that until you get through the quest that lets you rescue beasts (and don't have any open assignments), then if you're the type who likes to wander and explore, that would be time to really start doing that, as by then you'll have most of the important abilities, and exploring will be much more enjoyable. One thing to note: I don't remember exactly when it comes up, but you'll also want to do the quest from the Caretaker, Mr. Moon. This quest will teach you Alohomora, which opens up lockpicking.
I agree with everything you've said here, most of those things I regretted about exploring BUT when it was time for me to need moonstone I did have quite a stash 🤷♀️
Its so weird that everyone is pushing the Spell Knowlege talents. I get it but, in this game you can literally pause mid combat and change your load out. These are an easy 3 extra talents you can have by skipping them.

Can definitely be done without using them however pretty much everything revolves around a different in game spell so it can be quite time consuming toggling after a while👍 my favourite tree personally is room of requirement cabbages become ridiculously good late game probably moreso than they should 😂👍

I hate this game for two reasons. The hat should have asked you questions and it should have decided on which house and the same with the wands. I love the game other than that.
