Finding the Original Price when given the price with tax (or tip) and the percent of tax or tip

  • In this video we are going to look at how you can find the original Cost (amount) when you know the Price with tax or tip and the Percentage of tax or tip. We will look at a common mistake people make when trying to calculate this. This video will show how we can set this up as an equation to solve and how this can actually lead to a shortcut way to solve.
    There are many examples in this video. You can even pause the video and solve problems and then check how you did.
    Even though this video focuses on finding the original price of an item with tax or tip, the concepts work in any situation where there is an increase. For example, the price of a stock has increased or the temperature has increased.
