Salmonfly

The adult Salmonfly is generally thought of as the most exciting dry fly fishing experience. The early season trout are hungry after winter and these are the largest bugs of the season. This combined with the fact that the Salmonfly adults are trapped on the water fluttering, causing a commotion and are easy targets sends fish into a feeding frenzy where they lower their otherwise general selectivity and cautiousness and become akin to competitive eaters. The Salmonfly soft-hackled dry flies incorporates good floatation from the deer hair, wing movement from the CDC and a soft-hackled collar that imitations the legs of the bug moving and trying to escape the surface. Fish it dead drifted and with small rod tip twitches to imitate the behavior of the natural insect.
