  • In November 2nd, 2006, the Anterian supercarrier Salitaniya and a small task force embarked on a training movement where the task force would embark from Southern Anteria, move through the Melodian Gap, north through Cape Pop on heading for gap between the Svalbardian Archipelago and Íseyja, and into the Nordic Ocean. The crew would hold fort in the north ocean for three weeks on a naval cold weather exercise, and would return home. This type of exercise was routine and was conducted by small task forces many times throughout the year.
Task Force Brazen had entered Cape Pop on the evening of November 8th and by the morning of the 9th, the task force was enveloped in a thick fog. Dawn Charge of Deck (the watch guards who were responsible for outlook around the ship) immediately reported this and the task force tightened their grouping. Then, the distant sound of foghorns came through the fog. Radar and Sonar showed no sign of land or ships for hundreds of miles, but the foghorn continued to sound. The Salitaniya responded in turn, sounding its own foghorn as the task force moved slowly through the fog. Sailors then remarked the sound of Amazing Grace through communication equipment, including equipment which normally didn’t emit sound. Then, at 0521, the task force disappeared from all radar, sonar, and locative equipment around the world…

I don't know what this is related to, but it's still one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I've heard in some time.

As an actual sailor, let me tell you, sailing amongst fog is one of the most haunting experiences i ever had, you hear all the horns from massive bulk carriers but see nothing, they may be sailing towards you and you won't know
    Still amazing video

But... how would the external world know of what they did and heard right before disappearing if they all disappeared?

all communications are pushed through a signals process before they’re transmitted and all observations made by the Charge of Deck are reported in a satellite-based data logs. NAVCOM was aware of all mysteriousness before everything went dark.

So, basically, they transmitted everything in real time.

The only real place name in the description is Svalbard, which is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Also known as Spitsbergen.
