Shade net application in Dragon Fruit Cultivation

Dragon fruit is an emerging crop due to its health and medicinal benefits. It can be grown in wide range of agro - climatic zones including areas of high temperature and water scarcity regions. The plant has potential to sustain high yield up to 20 years; high benefit to cost ratio.
The problems related to pollination, flowering and yellowing/flower dropping
are common in dragon fruit cultivation - major reason being high temperatures and sun stokes. Stunted growth and sun burning injuries closely related to heat stress experienced by the several (80−95%) dragon fruit farmers across India. It occurred particularly during summer season in the months of March and April that witness higher variation in day and night temperatures in regions where it crosses above 38ºC.
Dragon fruit cultivation under shade net is the best solution for all these problems. V5 shade net with 50% shade factor is suitable. It provides optimum sunlight to plant during flowering and fruiting stage, protects from sunburn.
