I sincerely hope by now....10 yrs later....that you know it's wrong to have great apes ( gorillas chimpanzees, orangutans & bonobos) as a pet. Their parents are killed so you (owners) can have a pet. Reverse the situation and see how you'all would feel if you were killed just so someone could play with YOUR baby. It's so so so wrong. Please leave them with their families.
Unfortunately far too often it’s hunters and poachers who leave these babies orphaned and unable to provide for themselves in the wild. Also it is humans who are constantly encroaching upon and destroying their habitat for profit. In an ideal world this wouldn’t happen, but it does, and western consumerism plays an enormous part in the continued destruction. What zoos and clips like these can do is educate people, help them to understand what intelligent creatures they are, and to start playing an active role in ensuring that ‘the wild’ so many commenters say this creatures should be in actually still exists. It’s easy to be judgemental, but what are you actually doing to protect their continued existence in the place that they belong?

How is this educational? He treats the animal like a toy, and soon it will grow, then he wants to get rid of the ape But the poor animal cannot survive in the wild. It will starve. Very nice.

@@virginiaviola5097 Unfortunately, I'm 68 & not in very good shape. My husband is 83 and in worse shape so I can't do too much except donate to sanctuaries when I can afford it.
@@Kathy200 honey, that’s ok, I’m not very much younger, we can only do what we can only do. And you are right, people are behind the push for poachers to steal newborns from their mamas, but also, they are orphaned, or rescued from sellers and cared for. Judging people when we aren’t entirely sure of the circumstances isn’t quite right either, and the more we get to understand just how similar we are, when we see who they are in a human environment, then hopefully that understanding will create a greater movement, and it has to be grassroots, it has to be people refusing to buy products, or supporting corporations who are only profit driven, to make sure we try and stop trashing the planet. Just for starters having these creatures as pets anywhere outside of their native lands should be made illegal just for starters. Take it easy, all the very best from 🇦🇺🐨🦘

I think this young man means well and cares for her better than most people do their children, but at the same time I pray that people will realize orangutans aren't meant to be pets.
I agree with you, it can be very nice to have them but that's not right. They are wild animals and should be in your home.

@@sonjawolfmoon4150 Ideally the wild was a good place for these animals but the world has cchanged Their habitat is shrinking, poachers are lurking, farmers are brutal when their crops are taken by desperately hungry orangutans, making the wild an even less friendly place than it has ever been. This little girl is capable of so much more than just being a pet. Our DNA is astoundingly similar. I have always wondered if we cast them back into the wild for their sake or for our own convenience. I think the animals should have a "voice" and a choice.
Their home is in the Utan (=forest in Malaysian/Indonesian)
And they should not be dressed as humans.
alinae75 ~ AMEN to that. Maybe she has gone back to Borneo to a rehabilitation centre, as it is impossible to keep her as a grown adult, and the rice she is eating is not good for her. Lets hope she is back in the trees today.

@@user-hy2ys9iz8u 우탄이가 나이먹으며 쇼를 하기싫어했고 자해를 했대요.아이큐가 높은 종이니 힘들었던듯해요.
그래서 갇혀 살다 병걸려서 죽었어요.
힘이 세지고 사나워져서 손가락 인대 잘랐다는 이야기도 있구요.
오랑이는 아직도 살아있고 자식까지 낳았지만
태어나고 자란곳에서 불편한삶을 살고 있죠...
고소미 먹을까봐 어딘지는 말못하지만
국내 동물원중에서도 생태환경조성은 밑에서 손꼽을만큼 안좋은데서 살고있습니다.
동물원 자체는 반대하는편은 아니지만 최소한 정성스레 주거환경은 만들어주고 좀...

Maybe other people think it's cute, but for me, i'm not impressed. No matter how good you take care is if an orangutan is cared for like a pet, It's not good for orangutans. Because orangutans live in the forest. That makes orang utan happier. Orang utan must have free life in the forest.

You can see this man really loves this orang, as so many do, however, she will grow up and cause havoc in that little apt, and she belongs in the trees. Never as a pet. l hope he has brought her to one of those orangutan rehabilitation places in Borneo. Rice, and people food is terrible for them also. :)

Orang Utan meaning Forest People. They more than animals.
You can put in her/his room some tree to climb and play. Their habitat is nature and jungle so you need to make her/he feels live in the nature.

This young one shouldnt be a pet, let them be with their own kind in a sanctuary. They will soon be too big to handle, they are multiple times stronger then a grown man even as adolescents. Let people have them that know how to handle a growing orangutan safely. Right now when young, u think they r novel pets n soo cute, but they r going to grow n get big n uncontrollable, they wont always do what u say, n might unintentionally hurt someone, even yourself. ***Apes should never be pets***, find them a good home now with experienced people.
I deeply understand your conerns but I don’t think she was a pet. According to Korean subtitles he was a zookeeper in charge. Of course it doesn't mean she was with perfect happiness but l think she was in professional' s good hands at least, wasn' she? And he loved her.

First of all it's Not a Pet. Animals that live with Humans are family. You should of know that. 2) There are exceptions to the Rules in life and in the Law of Nature. There's many Animal's can be Happier/Prefer to be with Huaman. We see this in History and now.
3) have you seen the Deforestation on the Orangutans?
4) He's a Zoo keeper and is doing a Wonderful job at Rasing her.
5) learn to Understand something before you open a personal opinion based on what you see.
P.s. an Individual who's never lived in Nature with Animal's and make no Connection can't give a goof conclusion based on ignorance/city life a.k.a. in the Matrix. You're way isn't Valued.
She's not his pet, he's her zookeeper. It's his job to look after her and she'll be in his care until she's ready to be released into the wild.

It is so sad to see a big TV company like SBS didn’t educate well to select which video is good to be broadcast and what is not. Keeping orang utan as pet is illegal! An individual person cannot buy orang utan, because they are listed as one of endangered animals so you can’t have it personal and keep it as pet. If someone have orang utan as pet, for sure they bought it from blackmarket. SBS Crew, again please educate yourself.
