  • A Mile Below the Wheat. -- 1949. -- 15 minutes. -- 16mm colour; sound. -- This film tells the dramatic story of the discovery of oil at Leduc, Alberta in 1947 and the developments which followed. These include the development of the Leduc field, new prosperity in the town of Leduc, and the building of a completely new town (Devon) to house oil field workers and their families. It also shows the building of the first pipe line to carry the new oil to market. Amid all of this oil activity, the farmer continues to tend his farm and harvest his crops, a mile above the oil pool. The film was selected for showing and special mention at the International Festival of Documentary Films, Edinburgh, 1949. Order a copy of this film from Glenbow Archives (call number IV-12-2a).
