Man I forgot Taste! THEY'RE AMAZING! Not just Rory but all three were fantastic musicians!!!!🤘😝
Great band, small discography but it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Only 2 studio albums but 2 brilliant albums at that!
Thanks for that Pete, that first album is killer, this is where it all started for me.
A great band and also a great reminder to go listen to them again.
Thank you for your ranking of Taste!! I love this band!!🎤🎸🎵🥁
Blister on the Moon was my introduction to Rory Gallagher, an addiction that holds onto this day. I mixed my view on Taste with the ranking of Rory's albums the other day already.
Thanks so much for covering all the Taste albums!
Great Job!
Rory.....what else can I say???
He truly had it all as the ultimate Rock and blues artist!
Much respect to your channel!
Happy New Year 2022!
Bob
Great under rated band good to them covered.
For me, Taste is the ultimate power trio ever! What I really like about them is their unpredictability as a live band. Almost every song differs from one performance to another, with lots of new dynamics! Incredible band!
Love Taste got e everything they did, sadly never got to see them, even I was too young.
I love this bands recordings both live and studio Who knows what they would have achieved if there career lasted a few years longer In some circles they were wrongly accused of being the poor mans cream, but within the music industry they were highly regarded. Having a great rhythm section on which There brilliant guitarist Rory Gallagher showcased his considerable skills to maximum effect .Greatly underappreciated but classic sounds and some truly significant trscks that we today can enjoy R I P the great Rory Gallagher . Thanks for this Pete.
Again Right On, Pete only two albums but full of rocket sauce!!!
Great stuff, love all things Rory
There are a couple of really good Taste compilations plus a four CD box set in addition to the albums Pete mentions. Great band that still sound fresh today. The IOW album has a fantastic live feel to it. Thanks for doing this one Pete.
Love this band and of course Rory..
Love On the Boards, Rory was magic few like him.
Great band !!!
Taste and Free during the late 60's. It really doesn't get better.
I saw Rory with Eric Clapton in 1981. He was Outstanding not to mention Clapton.
Pete, I would never expect this!! Thank You for this vid.
Never heard of these guys except for Rory Gallagher of course, thanks for sharing something cool that I must delve into.
Brilliant Taste review Pete. I bought the debut Taste album in 1969 based on the Blister on the Moon track. Saw them live in Dublin in March 1970 and became a Rory fan forever.
Rory Gallagher... the second "g" is silent... pronounced "Gallaher". I'm glad you covered Taste... Like you said, one of the greatest power trios ever. However, I have NEVER before seen anyone rank the debut ahead of the 2nd album. I know it's just your opinion, but "On The Boards" is so much better than the debut... it's not even close! Anyway... thanks for the video!
Never heard TASTE.WITH RORY GALLAGHER. ILL give them a listen....
You shan't be disappointed ...
Despite being a big fan of Rory Gallagher ‘s solo work, I am sorry to admit I’ve never listened to anything by Taste. I will put that right without further delay!
Thanks for the continuing education about great music, Pete. Your unparalleled knowledge of classic rock music is second to none.
After the first lizzy line up irelands second ever best rock trio🎸☘🤘🤘
Dave Morrissey Taste was better.
@@sspbrazil No way lol. I'm huge Rory fan but Phil Lynott was one of the best songwriter of all time.
Good points guys☘👍👍
Loved On the Boards. Introduced a lot of people over the years to this album. Knew that they had another album, but, never even saw it to get it. Of course, back then, there was no internet to look it up and play it. So, thanks for letting know just what that "other" album is. And, I agree. They could of been a great band if they'd stayed together.
J'ai découvert plein d'artistes grace à toi.
Merci
pete, how about a show on the history of your guitars, how long and where you got them, maybe a demo
And fav songs he loves to play :)
Rory is one of my heroes. Saw him in 1975 and it's a top five all-time show. I'm glad I saw him with the brilliant Rod De'ath on drums. The problem I've always had with Isle of Wight is the drummer, who I'd like to slap. He's flailing away and doing everything but keeping time. He's serving himself and not the song.
There is also a unreleased album called Taste the West Live in Europe 1970, which I have, and recently there was a 2015 release called Taste I'll Remember 4cd set. Great band.
That “What’s Going On” video from Isle of Wight is great. RG’s playing through a Vox amp that’s sitting on a folding chair and mic’d. Simple, effective.
I question my taste if I don't remember who taste is. 😂 Playing catch-up again so thanks Pete for this channel and for being a great music source. 🤟
Love Taste Love Rory my friends went to see Taste early 70 at the Sunderland Lecarno, they said while Rory was stamping his foot to Sugar Mama he put his foot through the stage floor, strangely the second Album was called On the Boards
Saw Taste in 1970 in Liverpool stunning concert. Warm up band was Stone The Crows, plus the guy Zepplin robbed Dazed and Connfused from Jake Holmes brilliant never for get 50 years ago wow
Share your love for Taste and Rory solo.
I've never heard the album from 2009, but as for the other two I like the self-titled album just a tiny bit more than On The Boards. Probably because I heard it first. The live Montreaux album is damn good, also. So:
2) On The Boards
1) Taste
Thanks, Pete!
Great band, Isle of Wight performance is brilliant as you say Pete it's a killer. Check out the video of the performance. A good read is the book is Rory Gallagher His Life and Times which covers the Taste years in some detail.
I don’t know if it’s still available. Taste also have a nice box set called I’ll Remember. It has the two studio albums, with bonus tracks, more live recordings and early studio recordings.
Rory Gallagher was a very decent, soulful vocalist but more importantly he was an amazing guitarist. I am glad you separated this band and his solo career- Rory well worth a x2 treatment!
I personally love Rory's voice. He's obviously not a very "impressive" singer, but I just love the sound of his voice in general. Soulful, as you said, and very unique. Works wonders on a song like "I'm Not Awake Yet".
I'm wondering who wouldn't like his singing. I'm a singer and never noticed anything bad about his voice, on the contrary rather! Also, playing guitar and singing is a whole different ballgame than singing by itself. Just ask the great Ronnie James Dio ;)
Nice! Hi Pete how are you doing?
If you like this music Vinyl is the way to go. The real Tubey Magical Sound that was on the Tapes when the music was recorded !
I have both of these on vinyl. The debut was from my dad's collection. 2nd album I got in a record store for $6. Both go for good money I guess. I always thought they were Cream lite.
Taste were great it was just a shame they didn't stay around for longer .
They Were so Good Live. .Saw them at I.O.W. .However when they played places like the Marquee, it was magical...We all know Rory went on to great things But Wilson and McCracken formed a band called Stud, I think it was with Jim McCregan...check their album out because it was damn good.
there was a lp called first or in the begining it was pre taste with blues covers im sure rory fans know more about than i do
Another very informative video! Have you done any segments on Riot?
My favorite Taste song is On The Boards
Rory never played any Taste songs once he left the band. What’s going on from the aisle of wight album is amazing.
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I had never listened to one Rory Gallagher song in my life. I started watching "Sugar Mama" from the Isle of Wight show and had to literally cringe because the dude's guitar was painfully out of tune. He struck a chord around 28 seconds into the song that was like nails on a chalkboard to me because I'm a judgmental dick when it comes to guitar. Thankfully, he realized and tuned up that string after a while. The asshole in me said he must be overrated and walked away. But something made me come back. I think it was how much you could tell he felt his own music. After listening to a several more songs from his entire career, I know why people like him so much. He plays with a lot of feeling and I like his voice. I appreciate his ability to tear it up on the harder blues tunes. However, I am also enjoying the softer songs like "I Fall Apart" and "For the Last Time," too. Sometimes slower is better; the notes penetrate you deeper instead of rushing over you in a frenzy. I will definitely be going through his entire catalog and doing some serious downloading this weekend. Thanks for the review on this band, as well as the solo Gallagher video you posted.
Hey Pete , great show as usual . Is there an album called live at the marque ? Can't remember if lt was a Gallagher or Taste album eh .
It was Rory Gallagher album 1972.
What about doing a show on the best songs of all time under 2.30 in length?
You should do a show called The Four Pillars, and discuss the 4 bands that laid the foundation for rock, heavy metal, prog etc....
@@patrickkelly4862 I like how your mind works!!! Maybe a better name would be Foundation, bands that set the stage for heavy metal, prog, glam etc...but I agree between Purple, Zep and Sabbath pretty much covers it all
I have only live album
Petes gonna pick Thin Lizzy album for 1976
“Neither of these albums are very long” - that’s a plus point right from the get-go. Music was better when records were shorter!
Pete were you in a band?
Pete’s going to pick BOSTON for 1976 ;)
Or thin Lizzy album jailbreak
I reckon it’s going to be Rainbow Rising, with Boston as the likely runner up.
is taste like thin lizzy
No, Taste was heavy blues rock on the other hand Thin Lizzy was pure rock.
Absolutely
A joke I said before but worth a mention. Pete looks his previous uploads: Jeez it was exhaustive doing Hawkwind, Gallagher, and the entirety of Wishbone Ash. What's something small I can do?
*Looks at Taste dinky discography* Ah a small discography! Let's give them a taste of Taste!
You are so right! Though, I've good a big one coming!
