What’s your best second hand buy? 👇
Not camping related but once paid £15 for a leather jacket on eBay. It turned out it was a very high end designer make and I sold it on for £800.
what rucksacks that n what actuall liters can it hold ? struggling t find a short fat pack f winter hmk kit that ll fit everythin n i can affortd
@@RootsLion it’s an Osprey Kestrel 48
My Kelly Kettle - £4 in a charity shop and my Tangia on ebay- £20
I got a bundle of stuff for £20 including a big screw top stove and some British army mess tins. Everything else I bought new.
If using my Phoxx 1 I tend to take a tarp as well. This gets around the issue of not being able to sit up in the tent so provides shelter to sit under if it rains.
It might sound a bit daft but a golf / sports umbrella can be useful , keeps rain / wind off .. Sort of a mini tarp .
'my bag hasn't been this big and heavy for a long, long time'.
oh the joys of getting old lol!
kind regards.
Haha I know! 😆
642 pegs lol I need a bigger rucksack
You've won! ruclips.net/user/shortsd2rG0UqOlm4
@@daleyoutdoors thank you ! I can't believe it
Bought 3 tents for £15 at local auction. Sold 2 (Ebay) for £85 - to Germany - and £30 - local collection. The other, a Macpac Microlight (1.5 kg. single hoop with side entry and porch) , is in regular use as my 3/4 season tent. Love it!
Awesome! 🙌
I also got a microlight second hand which is in regular use.
Damn good tent innit , not a huge amount of headroom though .
I got a Blackthorn of the same ilk. Basically for stealth camps in summer on long cycle trips. As it's just for sleeping in it's okay, for worst weather I'd use my Eurohike Backpacker dlx 2. Bike panniers get you adding gear - don't get sucked in, it gets heavy on hills.
I've also got a Blackthorn 1 although I've not done more with it than set it up in the garden and leave it for a few days to check how waterproof it is. I basically bought it out of curiosity. A while later I bought a used Wild Country Zepheros 1 in very good condition and I'm not sure I'll ever use the Blackthorn as the Zepheros is about the same weight but much roomier and way better quality. Your Eurohike seems to be a heavy old beast much the same weight as the tent I started cycle camping with in the early 1990s but you're doubtless a lot younger and fitter than I am (I'm in my 70s). ATB
Great vid Ben, I've seen people using a tarp over the top of this kind of tent to give a bit more cooking/sitting area, admittedly it would mean taking a couple of extra poles, but if your already using trekking poles I suppose it's no biggy 👍👍
Good idea. Too much of a faff for me though 🤣
@@daleyoutdoors me too tbh 🤣🤣
The only problem with the inflatable mats with built-in headrest is the lack of support for the crook of the neck
Good informative video Ben. 642 pegs, wow 😂😂 Cheers Pal !
It's always the 643rd peg that's the killer. Close call.
I know mate. That one is always a bugger.
642 😂 looks like a copy of the vango banshee 200. I’ve got that sleep mat find it’s pretty good I just have a silver roll mat I put under it ⛺️ keep up the great work
Bargain of the year for me was the Aldi adventuridge tent which is very similar to the one in the vid. £15 new in store and believe went down to £8. Everything else I get from car boot. Got trekology ul140 mat for £15 still in packaging.
Wow some bargains there Connor! 🙌
642 pegs, I hope they are lightnweight!! Great idea for the give away, very kind :)
Yes lad! Looks like the tent held up great! 👌
It did. It’s just tiny 😆
So many tents that are all identical to this. Like you said, it works and keeps you sheltered, but it’s tiny and a bit of a faff to put up. The Aldi reduced price made it a bargain, but for me if I can’t sit up in a tent, I wouldn’t use it
An interesting experiment, Ben. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video mate I did a Facebook market place one got a hammock setup for £30
Thanks for that Ben! Now all I need is the 642 tent pegs that I may or may not need in the future.. I’m going to start making some bushcraft style! 🤣 thanks for the giveaway!
Got a snugpak tactical 4 sleeping bag from Facebook market place for £20. Apart from no stuff sack it was almost brand new. 👌
i got a Banshee 200 for 65 quid hardly used few yr ago i love it 👍👍👍
Bargain! 👍
A lot of used kit has really little use. I am seeing some used prices go above new pricing though...
Hopefully you don't need 642 pegs to hold it down in the wind! Really useful review to encourage me to have a go. Think this may be in warmer weather now.
I bought an Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1, from Ebay for £55 used once, great tent
Honest review as always Ben. Your thoughts on the tent were pretty clear though. ( it’s getting cold but I can’t be bothered to go back to the tent & it’s getting dark in 3 hours, so I’m just gonna hang around outside the tent 😂) I’ve looked for a few items 2nd hand, but not found what I’m after. It also depends what it is.
I have that sleeping bag. For summer camping it has been ok. A spring trip that surprisingly dropped to freezing was a definite prompt to buy a new one.
Nice review. 642 pegs 🙂 Probably couldn't lift the bag.
Good luck everyone. 👍
642 pegs, great looking tent 👍
Not second hand but had a oex phoxx1 v2 and oex Bobcat 1 for £84 from go outdoors last week!
Nice 1 Ben.
I picked up a second hand pro action tiger paws tent fir a tenner a few years ago.
Great little 1 man tent ⛺️ that weighs 2kg.

Great vid. Thanks! Stay on the mountain dew.
Thanks Trevor! Will do 🤓
Great video.
I've had alot of gear from Ebay.
I had a mk2 Vango Banshee and a Snugpak Travelpak sleeping bag.
I bought a Eurohike Adventurer 300 in the sale at £23 new. And it is a very warm bag. I only use it in a winter.
I have tried a few of this style of tent : Highlander - verdict tiny and suitable in for a small child; Yellowstone Matterhorn 1 - verdict slightly bigger but the carbon pole split in the night and the stitching in the sheaf can undone ; Coleman - verdict better still but for 2 people (allegedly) but heavy tent despite packing down small .
Overall I felt claustrophobic in them and was not able to sit up to take a jacket off or put it on in the morning meaning standing in the rain outside . I will unlikely ever use them again so I agree definitely not a tent style to start off with
Yes I think being able to sit up is a must for me now. Thanks for watching! Ben
I almost bought one of those tents as a summer standby, glad I didn't now. I bought one of the same design but far bigger inside. That said of the Mountain Warehouse tent, the solid inner will be useful on cold windy nights.
Always forget something when heading out...usually one of the 642 tent pegs needed in some of the tents!
😆
Enjoyed this one Mr D. The MW tent might be good for someone starting out. Like the look of that pillow….👍
Thanks Ben 🤓
Great video! Crow✌️
Thanks! Ben
Watched your clip when you recommended the stone circle.Paid a visit up there last summer with no research about the place. I must have been passed it a dozen times not knowing it was there…. Worth the time out and an interesting back story. It was blowing a bit but still stood….only a little hill at that.Do you have any other snippets of interesting places without spoiling the surprise when you get there….looking forward to trying my 3 person Mt. Warehouse now…,,budget or no budget..just do it..wont be until next year though for me.

I’ll have a think Tim 👍
Berghaus yeti attack 2 gaiters, brand new with tags, £24 + postage. Bargain, just need to wrestle them on 😂😂
Bargain! 👌
the redcamp pillow is fantastic. keeps the height and comfortable all night through.
Not heard of that one. I’ll take a look - thanks! 👍
@@daleyoutdoors I have the bigger grey one which is double the price of the smaller flannel one but worth it. The one on ebay is about £10 cheaper than amazon.
Excellent video bud, made me chuckle
Easiest way to stop tour sleep mat sliding about is to put it inside your sleeping bag.
Good tip. I usually use a quilt though.
642 what a cool tent for some one to start ,well done you sir ,
Vango 100. £2.00 at car boot. Did 11 days on South West Coast Path in June. Held up well, a little heavy at 1.92kg, could drop that a little with lighter pegs.
Awesome! 👍
No dew was harmed in the making of this film 👍
A second hand Oex Phoxx 2 was my best buy. Turned out to never have been used and was £90 (including postage) and came with an OEX sleep mat and a basic sleeping bag
Nice! I’ve heard good things. Need to have a look at one 👍
Only used it once for a wild camp. Goes up fairly quickly and easily but is inner pitch first.
I brought bergause rucksack and deleting bag and tent to ho with my mate hesvlet me down 5 times snd 2 others have .. I've sold the tent n deleting bag n TBD rucksack is just collecting dust
.
642 pegs. No hurricane is lifting that.
How big is the tent packed up? 243 pegs? Let me check if I got it right!
My best buy, in value, so far was my Hilleberg Saivo, cost: €600, sold two weeks later €1000. Still regret that I did let it go though 🤔
Recently bought a Qumulus 350 quilt, with a liner for €90, in perfect condition. -that's not bad...
Nice! That is a bargain!
2nd hand gear is ok for you if you fancy trying wild camping and don't know if you will like it if not not much money wasted and can always sell it again.i was looking on eBay I was shocked some of the gear is going for more than the new price but that was a top end tent I was looking at
Some stuff goes for crazy money!
642 pegs is considered excessive but hey, it's not like you have anything else to do. helps with drainage too!
regards.
I take folding scissors and cut the food pouches shorter before eating. There is one brand that has a second tear tab so you can rip it shorter too. I think its expedition foods, though these are my least favourite. Self standing pouches have annoying corners which bits get stuck in and sometimes stay dry.
Summit to eat don’t have corners 👍 Real Turmat have a double rip bit too
@@daleyoutdoors That's good to know. I recently bought my own pouches, which I will transfer an Aldi tinned curry (or similar) into to test if its viable, way cheaper too. I have access to a sealer though. Can't quite commit to dehydrated foods, very hit and miss imo, way easier to get the cook kit size down though.
X3 super grade ex military sleeping bags ( 4 season ) £30 each. Vango nemesis tent £80. Berghaus Vulcan Bergen £120. Karrimor SF saber 80-130 Bergen £140.softie jacket and trousers £30 for the set
642. Sounds like an easy pitch 🤣
🤣
What camera setup to you use? The quality is amazing. Subbed
Just a GoPro 10 mate 👍
Coleman 442 dual fuel stove $35 cad, new versions go for over $200.
I was surprised how small the tent looked inside. Barely any wider than my 1p version and not as long
That’s a bargain! It feels like a 1P inside 🤣 Thanks for watching 👍
642! I’m sure you missed one somewhere…..?!?!?😂
The amount of pegs on this tent is just hillarious, the size of it is great though. I really don't like tying the outer to the poles, or the inner... it has that tie on the other side too.
I counted every one of those 642 pegs! 😃
I find that sleeping bags can be some what of a minefield even getting new one if you are on the larger size have quilt and made sleeping bag in to one can take both of them if going to get down to -10 nights and not to heavy
Good vid as always, goes to show you don’t have to pay the 🌍 to get out for a camp, am interested in how you got permission land? How do you go about it? Thanks, look forward to your next vid 👍
I did a video on it here Wild Camp LEGALLY! How to get PERMISSION
ruclips.net/video/P1e44dWrWr0/видео.html
Does the 642 pegs include a spare just incase or do I need 643 just incase
Coffin is the word I was thinking.... Yes it's a lightweight tent but could you have gone a bit bigger/heavier for cheap? And I've got no second hand buys.... I'm at 8kg in a 35ltr backpack. All good stuff, spent a bag of sand. It's an investment
I couldn’t see anything else worth buying/trying at the time. Better stuff does come up from time to time though 👍
I managed to get a Hilleberg Anjan 2 for £330 on ebay. I know £330 is a lot of money but for an Anjan 2, which is one of the most underrated Hillebergs IMO, I think I got an amazing bargain!
Yes I agree the Anjan is a bit of a hidden gem I think. That’s a bargain 👍
Wow ... 642 pegs .. hoipe it doesn't blow away if it's windy
I always take a small tarp with my phoxx 2, don't fancy being a hunch back all night if it's chucking down 😂
Expedition Tarp?
@@stevewebb2102 yep
Some great bits there 642
Great video as always. A bit off subject, hope you don’t mind the question but would you recommend the cloud up 2 or cloud peak 2 ?
Both good tents. Depends what you’re looking for…
End entry tents can be awkward and cause a wet back from condensation on entering or leaving. Have a look at the Mongar for summer and the Star River for 3 season too.
Great video once again but can you tell me the exped 5 you got was it any good I need a new all round mat for winter I'd be grateful for any advice thanks
Yes. I’ll be doing a long term review on it soon 👍
@@daleyoutdoors I'll wait to see the verdict before I buy 👍
Flip! Mountain Dew is just liquid sugar! Have a cuppa!
It was a sugar free one. Pure chemicals 👍🤣
Ok, 642 pegs! I was only wrong by just below 400 haha
642 looks a good tent
600 + the meaning of life = 642
RIP Douglas Adams.
Just managed a Decathlon MH900 waterproof jacket for £10 on vinted! Normally £100🤯
Awesome! 👌
I sold my Phoxx 1 EV on Ebay last year. I’d had it 2 years, used it lots, but it was like new. I got £76 for it, I paid £45 new from Go Outdoors in a brand event 🤷♂️
Crazy isn’t it! 😆
I love a 2nd hand bargain
I got a Vango ultralite 900 sleeping bag for £10
Awesome! 🙌
642....Ladson Tor 😎
Dang, 642 pegs. That’s insane.
had a phoxx1.2 2nd and a one tigris sailaway bivy thingy sadly found both claustrophobic af will be selling .. deerhuntert poachers jkt that i tried t reproof n still leaks like a teabag smh
Oxygen absorbers are good seasoning if you have iron deficiency though. :-P
/joking. They are ron powder and salt, but probably not good for you!
I think it needs 642 pegs! Am i right?lol
Know what you mean about second hand prices been silly, saw a phoxx 1 go for more used than it is to buy new
It’s crazy! Thanks for watching Bobby 👍
@@daleyoutdoors keep up the good work
Hi, I've done a bit of site camping but would really like to get into wild camping, I have a bit of gear and I live in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire so peak district is very close, is it just a case of not getting caught ? Thank you :)

642 pegs, as long as it’s not too windy
642 pegs ooh la la
If it takes 642 pegs it’s no wonder you pack is a bit heavy!
642 pegs. The most secure tent ever.
642 pegs lol how long does it take to put all those in 😂
Got an Oex Vallo 70+ 10 on Vinted £18 -£22 with postage new with tags bargain
I bought the helm 2 in the first lockdown for £80
Bargain 🤘
If you're new to camping its best to invest in second hand gear just in case you don't like it
Yep. Or borrow some gear if you can 👍
Good video 642 pegs
642 pegs cheers 👍🏼
642 pegs 😁🤣👍
I hate when the sleeping bag slips about on the air mattress or sleeping pad..
I use small circular velcro pads on a 10mm insulating mat to hold to an OEX Traverse air mat. Then sleep with a quilt, lying directly on the 10mm mat. No slipping and very comfortable. Combined R value is 4 so warm down to -6DegC.
@@trevorhill1577 good idea thanks
I think tents are like bicycles ... you really do 'get what you pay for' tents that you can't sit up in are a real nightmare
Yes I think you do at the bottom/budget end especially. At the top end there’s a cut off if you’re not summit camping if heading to the arctic 😆I definitely need a tent I can sit up in. This was horrible 🤣
I wouldn't fancy a cramped camp in that sort size tent but rest seemed bargains ebay at times for new stuff isn't that cheap I do full searches and find stuff on offers in shops n places so pays to shop around and often bids go crazey n folk pay more than you can go and buy new in bid wars lol
Yes it’s easy to get sucked in to a bidding war. Self discipline definitely needed! 😆
Sierra designs meteor 3000 for 35quid only used once
