    Sonic CD is actually a game. it was named as such because it was the first game in the series to be released in the disc format, it being released for the Sega CD. it just so happens to have animated opening and ending cutscenes. there is however an anime OVA also animated by Toei which you should definitely check out, if only for COWBOY KNUCKLES!!! Also you should definitely give the Crush 40 and Cash Cash version of Sonic boom a listen. Oh and thanks for the reaction it was A W E S O M E as always. looking forward to the next one!!

    7:18 Idk if anyone said, but Sonic Team in general just likes using English vocals for their music. The series has a lot of Western inspiration, so they're being authentic to the style they've created. There's very rarely a "Japanese version" of a Sonic track in the whole series. Even in a game like Sonic CD, which has _two entirely separate soundtracks_ for JP and US, the JP ost still uses English samples and vocals

      In Brazil the american OST was also used in the original SEGA CD and in the Gems Collection version, I would assume then that the American OST was used throughout the whole America, North, Central and South America
      Which is really weird, because in here, we call the Console "SEGA MegaDrive" like it is called in Japan and Europe, instead of calling it "SEGA Genesis" like it is in the US, we call the addon "SEGA CD" like in America, instead of calling it "Mega CD" like it is in Europe and Japan, we use the US OST for Sonic CD, the Sonic 1 boxart for the MegaDrive uses the European boxart, not even the Japanese or the American one AND the manuals are based around the US manuals

    It was mentioned a few times in premiere chat, and video comments, but there are a few other versions of Sonic Boom, like the game's credits theme and a crush 40 remix. I have looked, and honestly the ending animation is *not* well documented on youtube, and it's a bit of a pain to find the specific version you want. You have to find a version of the video from the correct region, with correct editing, from the correct re-release of the game, that way it isn't crunchy and over-vibrant or stretched to fill 16:9, but alot of re-releases also run at twice the speed of what the original was made with, and something right at the beginning of the game is, by nature, alot more well documented than something at the end of one.
    The best I can get in terms of the original outro is ruclips.net/video/susEZK6kc7Y/видео.html where most of the screen is credits, and the last third or so is nothing but.
    The crush 40 version is alot easier to get a good version of, since it isn't really supposed to have a video attached, from what I understand: ruclips.net/video/_kgl3BzrZsk/видео.html
    As for the JP outro, it follows the same pattern as the intro: same video, completely different track. And I was able to find a video with a different format, where you get to see the animation actually fill the screen, which is nice. ruclips.net/video/3jQxvX7RILw/видео.html

    Sonic CD was a game, not an actual CD. It was made for the Sega Genesis CD add-on with this game being the main game for it. The animation was the intro animation for the game (setting a trend for the whole series of having intro videos) and the game infamously had two completely different soundtracks, a US one and a JP/EU version. Many consider the JP version to be the “”correct”” version but both are pretty solid.
    Also there’s an Outro cutscene as well, which is recommend to watch too

  • @ThisisTheUltimate
    @ThisisTheUltimate 9 месяцев назад +2

    Since you reacted to both openings, "Sonic Boom" and "You Can do Anything", I think it would also be cool if you reacted to both ending songs (and ending animation of the game as well), the name of the songs are: "Sonic Boom (Ending version)" for the American ending and "Cosmic Eternity ~ Believe in Yourself" for the Japanese version (my personal favorite in the whole OST)
    Now, about the game:
    Sonic CD is the name of the game, actually the full name would be "Sonic the Hedgehog CD", much like the SEGA Genesis games "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" and "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" that are most comonly just called Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, same applies here in Sonic CD
    Sonic CD is a game released for the SEGA CD (in America)/Mega CD (in Japan and Europe), an "addon" released for the SEGA Genesis (North American name)/SEGA MegaDrive (Japanese name) where you could connect your SEGA CD into your SEGA Genesis so your console could read CD games instead of just cartridge games (there was also another addon to the SEGA Genesis called the SEGA 32X/Super 32X that could read 32 bit games instead of just 16 bit games)
    On the original SEGA CD that animated intro was a lot more pixalated, since it was a 16 bit console the animation had to be reduced a lot, that version of the animation your watching is probably the Sonic Origins version (Sonic Origins is a collection of Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles) that uses the original animated version and upscales it, there is also the Sonic CD 2011 remastered version, which just like the Origins version is the drawn animated version and not pixelart, but it has a lot less quality than the Origins version, that one is definetly the most high quality version we got of both Sonic CD's opening and ending animations
    also, the entire game OST is changed in regions, not only the openings but also the endings and the songs of the levels themselves, there is one OST for the Japanese and European version and another for the American version, with the exception being the Past versions of each track because it was harder to modify (Sonic CD has a time travel system so each level has a Past, Present, Bad Future and Good Future version of the song)
    And about the studio behind this animation:
    It is one of the mysteries behind the Sonic series, much like if Michael Jackson worked on Sonic 3's OST (which at this point is pretty much confirmed), who really did this animation, Toei Animation Studio or Studio Junio, for the longest time most people believed to be Toei, and codenamed this Sonic on the opening "Toei Sonic" but after so many years people started to say it was actually Junio, being sent by Toei to do the animation, and then started calling that Sonic "Junio Sonic", after a while, Naoto Ohshima (Sonic's designer) showed his storyboard of the opening animation saying that he sent the Storyboard to Toei, maybe confirming that it was in fact Toei
    But in the end, if you see what Studio Junio has done, they've worked on Dragon Ball along Toei, so I guess we could say that both Toei and Junio worked in that intro

    ALL the music in sonic cd is different between English and Japanese soundtracks and I’m not kidding! • @legoboy7107
    @legoboy7107 9 месяцев назад +1

    Yeah, it is funny how the original song from the JP version is already in English, and yet they still replaced it with a completely different song that's also in English for the Western release. But the reason for that is because the entire soundtrack of Sonic CD got replaced in the US for whatever reason (SEGA of America just thought the original OST would be too weird for Americans or something I guess), minus the Past tracks (the game has a focus on Time Travel) because those were coded into the game itself like other Genesis music and couldn't just be changed, while the Present and Future tracks used CD audio thanks to the Sega CD. And so the intro song also got completely replaced even though the JP original was already in English.

    Sonic CD has two soundtracks. JP and US. The game is completely the same, but the music in the US is different. Sega of Japan wanted to make a English Soundtrack to have a world wide audience, but Sega of America was doing their own thing.
    In my opinion, Sonic Boom is the only Song in the US version, that is actually good. The rest of it reminds me of a horror game, while the japanese soundtrack sounds Quote happy.

    When I saw that opening as a kid and I was blown away. But I never saved the link and after a short while, couldn't remember the game it came from, nor did I remember a significant part of the lyrics.
    Because Sonic CD was way more obscure back then, I never really got the hints as to how to find the song once more (Probably because I thought that the CD meant something else whenever I saw the title). But when I found it again years later, the jp version, Toot Toot Sonic Warrior has been one of my favourite, if not my absolute favourite, Sonic songs.

    Don’t quote me on this but the Japan version was supposed to be the only version but the team in America wanted to create their own version. It was also speculated that there was issues bringing the music rights over so they had to create new music in a short time or at least that’s how the story was told.

  • @gamemaster2819

    So, it seems the second opening was something they wanted to be the main theme of the series.
    There were instrumental versions in the Game Gear Sonic 2 (which the composition was made for), Sonic Drift, and Sonic Chaos. In the two adventure games, a little rift for the music appears in the Invinciblity theme.
    After this, they gave up on using it constabtly.
    Not helping was it seems they've had a LOT of difficulty with using the song because of the vocals. Seems to be some copywright issues. It prevented the song from being in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (where a placeholder can be found in the files) and remasters would use an instrumetral version until Sonic Origins
    Sega would also use the instrumental in the later two Sonic racing games and Mario & Sonic at the Rio games, where it was the representative song of the Sonic series, just as the ground theme was for Mario.

    • @gamemaster2819
      @gamemaster2819 9 месяцев назад

      To this day, I still can't say the Sonic series has a main theme unlike Mario or Zelda. Mostly because Sega doesn't own the Green Hill theme.
      Green Hill Zone, Live and Learn, Sonic Heroes, and Reach for the Stars are probably the most iconic tracks, and Reach for the Stars in particular had its rift used a lot since its debut.
      Being the speed up theme of Lost World, Sonic's personal theme in the racing games I mentioned, and in the middle of One Way Dream, which was a big metaphor for how Sonic Team refuses to give up

    I will always take 'sonic boom' over 'you can do anything'. It just fits the intro way better. 'You can do anything' is a banger but not as suited to the intro i feel which is weird cause its like they had the idea for the song seperate from the animation. Meanwhile 'sonic boom' feels like they saw the animation and then made a song tailored to it. Speaking on the rest of the games soundtrack from JP vs US, im not as opinionated, they both have their highlights

    Sonic Boom is Iconic. The Japanese version makes my ears Bleed. Makes sense as 90s Anime was a dark time in Anime, much like the loli, harem, etc eras anime has gone through.
