Do you think that the movie could have been better if Chelsea had a genuine friendship with Ruby before a falling out and battle? Because I do. This movie could have been a masterpiece if it wasn’t so cliched, predictable, etc.
In my “fan fiction” Chelsea is the daughter of the mermaid queen but she is also half mermaid half human and that’s why she can walk on land. Her father of abandoned her when she was young and her mother resented her for essentially being a mistake. But when her mother discovered that she could walk on land, she wanted to use her to get the trident, but getting close to Ruby, but Chelsea had other plans and began to bond with Ruby and things fell apart. It might sound stupid, but in my . opinion, it would be better than what we got.
@@Penname25 I would turn back time if I could to see it in action 😅 but the again I don't totally dislike the movie I mean if they made like a TV show next then it would make some sense because this whole movie feels like a pilot episode 😅
Maybe this is a weird piece of feedback, but you enunciate your words really well. I'm hard of hearing a bit, so usually I have to fall back on the automatically generated subtitles to make out everything being said in a video, and you speak very clearly and don't stutter or slur your words at all, which made it super easy for the captions to pick up what you were saying and for me to understand you. Thank you very much :D
5:09 - 5.23 That's cinema for you, lol. Every time something original or fresh comes along, it gets milked dry until the public hates it. Another good review.
That’s great, and I also respect your opinion as well. There were things to appreciate about the film, I just felt the negatives outweigh the positives.
Isn't it a little bad that thus film endorses prejudiced thinking against entire groups of people? Also, if they were going to make the mermaids bad guys, why do they're monster forms look so bland? They justbhave sharp teeth and angry eyes, what a letdown.btgey could have designed them after terrifying deep sea fish.
This movie is also a bad rip-off of "Tail of Emily Windsnap". Same story where girl not allowed in the water by her mom learns she's a sea creature, except for much more valid reasons. That book subverts a ton of cliches instead of playing them straight, making it super unpredictable. Watching "Ruby Gillman" made me mad that the much better "Emily Windsnap" is still in film development hell.
I feel like it had potential, the animation and the concept was pretty good. If any thing I like the movie was for that.(concept: The krakens being guardians and siren being evil) The story may not be the best but it was just okay, what made it bad were some jokes. And the modernized themes that they tried to adapt. It actually bothered me to much the thing about the canadian joke, and ruby being a math athletic. And her friend the emo one it was a cringy, trying to copy Wednesday. The emo guy looked cool for me I loved him XD. And lastly yes I also thought it was too fast the pace, i also feel that there were some parts that they should have take time. Am pretty sure there's more things that could made the movie better. But for me was just animation(and characther designs for some) and concept. Like after half of the movie for me it got better.
I told people that this movie looked terrible, generic and lame. I get that stuff has been so poor quality lately especially from Disney that they desperately want something else to praise but this ain't it. Dreamworks has always been a very hit and miss studio.
I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again, I can definitely describe Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken as a 3D animated kids movie with completely wasted potential. It has a mediocre and formulaic plot with a highly obnoxious and predictable female main antagonist in the form of Chelsea Van Der Zee/Queen Nerissa who's just nothing more and nothing less than a cheap knockoff of a certain redhaired Disney Princess. And the only two things that were actually good about this movie were the animation (except for the designs of some characters) and how much of a relatable main protagonist Ruby was in the film. And yes, it is indeed in fact just a cheap knockoff of Turning Red meets The Little Mermaid 2 with a hint of Luca, Encanto, and The Incredibles. Along with both the Croods and the Trolls movies being way better animated movies than this one did in comparison. But this is what happens when you make a kids movie with only a $70 million budget with very poor marketing. So, I am still giving Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken a 4/10 with a three-star rating and a solid C-.
I like to think that the people who say "the movie is predictable" as a bad thing listen to music like "there's totally gonna be a chorus after this verse... See? Whatd i tell you?"

That's possible. Even then you'd still run into clichés, but they'd be ones that I think would be a lot more tolerable.

I've filmed my review and I'm going to start editing it. I personally really liked this film, but I respect your opinion

DreamWorks definitely ripped off one of Disney's direct-to-video sequels, didn’t they?
I'm afriad so :(

I feel so bad this is struggling at the box office. I didn't think it was as bad as some critics made it seem.

I felt like I already saw the entire movie through the trailer which is pretty standard for dreamworks but still disappointing nonetheless.
I feel that's the standard for most theater releases now. Especially Indiana Jones 5.
DreamWorks da hell you doing???? You just made greatness!! Why we doing this shit????
2:00 I can definitely say the same, but with memes being repeatedly use in a repetitive and unfunny manner on yt. But that's just me.
I get the vibe that the filmed was only aimed* at 7 year old girls and no one else
I was hoping the movie would at least be entertainingly bad but it couldn’t even do that.
Please please please please PLEASE respect my opinion on this movie! PLEEEEEASE!!!!! 😭
My daughter watched this about a dozen times over our vacation. I like the kraken designs, but almost all the humans are nightmare fuel.

After watching Ruby Gillman, I rather recommend Turning Red over this film.

4/10 means it should be a two-star rating.
@@fictionalmediabully9830 Well, in that case I'll change my rating to 4.5/10. But I'm still giving this movie a solid C-.
@@talithacumiferguson8834 Chelsea/Nerissa is a ripoff of Ariel from the little mermaid
this movie looked so good from the trailers but the movie itself is kind of meh
I wanted to see that
yeahh pretty Dispointing
