- Peugeot 905
Engine
80° 3,499 cc (214 cu in) V10, 40 valves
Lemans 1993
375 rounds - 5.100 km with the average of 213.358 km/h.
After that Peugeot decided to switch to Formula One, using the same 3.5L V10 from the 905.
What a sound. Has to be one of my all-time favorite prototypes.
and beautiful too, they should bring it back
Simulator racing games should get this car with full racing specs & sound gearshift. But, that will never happen.
That mix between ccm and +9000 rpm is unbelivable
It's so sad that is iconic of a period where endurance and the 24h of le Mans almost died.
One of the best looking sports prototypes ever and sounds fantastic!
turboslag wish they built a road legal version of this car
A.J. Swierzbinski like Dauer did for the 962
25 years later and it still looks radical and it wouldn't look out of place in a modern day Le Mans grid
Fun fact: It took 15 years for prototypes to achieve this level of performance again.
Jacquibim and surpassed it
@@GTChucker86 what car then? You mean the V6 F1??
Ammar Wazza The Audi R18 and Porsche 918. both have laptimes faster than Group C laptimes and yet they ran on the version of Lemans that had chicanes on the Mullsanne
@@GTChucker86 Almost everyone told me that Group C cars were the Golden Era of Lemans cars every now & then. They were the Monsters Of Mullsanne.
Ammar Wazza The Group C cars were fast, but the LMP1 cars are faster.
Put this in a 2019 grid and it wouldn't feel out of place. The design was way ahead of its time.
Just a Random Dude did Pininfarina have a hand at designing this exact car?
One of the best cars ever, without a doubt
One of my favorite Le Mans winners....That whole rear wing arrangement is just cool.
I'm not a big Peugeot (road car) fan, but this thing makes my knees go like jelly. The low, behind the car wing and engine sounding like it's really putting in the effort. And don't forget the big centre scoop! If I'm not mistaken, the same basic chassis has been used for following Toyota LM prototype(s).
That's one fast baguette
There are but three cars in life that make my heart pump with excitement the moment I hear them.
BMW E89 Z4 GT3
Porsche 917LH/K
and THIS MONSTER.
Merci. Esperons que de plus cette année : - )
ça c'est de la bagnole
Beautiful V10 engine sound :) crazy video dude
sounds nothing like that on forza 6
Not true. It was the Welter racing Project 400, powered bz Peugeot engine. Not the 905
I’m not a huge fan of Peugeot road cars, but their race cars are phenomenal
French constructors make really good race cars ( Peugeot: 205T16 group B, 905, 908, 405 T16 pikes peak, 208 T16 pikes peak, 206 WRC, 208 Rally Cross.
Citroën: Xsara WRC, C4 wrc, Ds3 wrc..
Renault: F1 and one if the best F1 motor constructor, good Rally cars too, R21 superproduction...)
If they want they can make awesome road cars..
Sometimes they make good road cars with great performances
this thing doesn't look like its from 1993
At least 10 years ahead of her time...
theres absolutely like the glorious wail of a V10
The shame is that because the FIA Endurance world championnship stopped in 1992, the Peugeot 905 Evo 2 never raced in true competition.
During 1992 WEC race at Magny-Cours, the 905 Evo 2 was so incredibly fast that she would be qualified at the 7 place in the Formula 1 GP of the same year! Just few tenth behind Jean Alesi on Ferrari! The Ferrari F92 was true shit but this year in F1, all top teams have active suspension and all electronics devices you can dream! The 905 evo 2 produced 3000kg of downforce at 300km/h instead of 700kg for the Evo 1B
Next year (1993), Jean Todt take the decision to put the Evo 1C at LeMans (this one) instead of the Evo 2 for two reasons: the one is that the downfoce produced by the Evo 2 was so big, that it would be a drawback for a circuit as fast as LeMans and because he was affraid to crush and disgust the other racers.
Rowhider Hi there mate, thanks very much for all the info you provided! ;-)
Can you tell the source for the 3000kg of downforce of Evo 2 and only 700kg for the evo 1b, please?
arturcraft2 It is coming from an interview of a former Peugeot Sport 905 team engineer, so pretty accurate I guess. In fact to get a such lap time in Magny-Cours with the difference of weight between F1 and Protos: It is realistic regarding the fact that this year 905 Evo 2 produced a power similar to the Ford Cosworth V8: 650HP. To be as fast as F1 car with the same power but a much bigger weight, the only solution is to have an huge downforce.
Magny-Cours required an average downforce level with big top speed and a lot of fast curves.
Rowhider thanks again! ;-)
Do you remember where did you see/read this interview? I would like to know more technical details about it
GTP cars were so great, I wish we still had cars with those levels of downforce.
arturcraft2

In english: the main weakness of the previous 905 was their relativ leak of downforce. They give from 1300 to 1400kg at 300km/h. The Evo 2 give instantly 3000kg. On a short circuit like Magny-Cours for example, she was so much faster than Jean Todt was afraid to disgust other racers... At LeMans 1993, in opposite, it's downforce would have produced a lot of drag and she would had be slower. We had the possibility to reduce the downforce but why? We known so well the Evo 1...
Love driving this car in Gran Turismo, that glorious V10 screaming away at over 11k RPM behind you, all the while doing over 220mph down the Mulsanne straight in cockpit view, a truly breathtaking ride.
This is the sound of greatness
It's even better sounding than a Judd V10 personally
GAET
Whenever I have trouble getting to sleep at night turn this on in a loop.
Polyphony pls add this again to GranTurismo!! 😍
With a vacum sound
Wow, that same engine was later used on the McLaren.Peugeot MP4/9!!!
Btw excellent video, as always!
Not at all
I was a news engine built with a different vee
One of my Favourite Le Mans Machines. Along with the Porsche 917L and Peugeot 908
One of my favorite sounds ever!
How does such an angry sound...sound so lovely?
Quels souvenirs....
avec jean Todt aussi j'imagine..
that awesome moment where you want to watch a video about Le Mans, and the commercial is a teaser for Le Mans :)
I miss cars like this, there was something raw and primal about them, like the old V10 f1 cars, you were both in awe and a little bit afraid of them at the same time it was fantastic.
THAT is a fantastic sounding engine!!! Beautiful car as well.
The 905 still looks really modern
Right I can't believe it's from 1993, so ahead of its time...
very pretty design , has the sound it deserves
why cant peugeot put this effort into their production models?
Joshua Maya exactly
regulation and safety and its too late to make a Peugeot Hypercar, the brand is not credible in the segment
they could make another branch like toyota did
they do in rally
they could sell me a redeux of the 405...so pretty....
THIS... IS.... ¡¡¡¡POOOOOOOOOOOORNNNN!!!!
Pornographelous
I dare to say V10s mostly sounds better than V12s because the exhaust note is complete, it's not only on high revs that they sound good
Low revs the got that rumble and provocative note
Mid revs they sound metallic with the rumble still there
High revs they can scream and resonate on a fly by pass just as loud as V12s.
I'm not trying to discredict V12 sounds it's just my humble opinion !
That part at 3:45 is just...beautiful. Spirit of Le Mans
Klinkt zeer goed.
Geweldige upload :D
(i dont know how it happened, but somehow, i understood your post....)(is LMP the universal language?)
It must be :) Motorsport enthusiasts in general always understand each other!
It looks adorable, like a baby race car
I love this LMP.
In 1992, the Evolution 3 of this car lapped Magny Cours race track, in private testing, 1 seconds faster than Mansell 1992 Williams Renault ...
Eat this F1 !
Bedankt!
Thanks for playing. you get the home game.... One of the Peugeot LMP1 is in gran turismo6 on playstation3... you can try to make or break this hero's lap time on the le man tracks....
Is it me or does it sounds like an F1 car with a V10 at idle when its, idling?
Yes, 1 year later peugot used the same engine's in there F1 cars.
it's pretty much based on a V10 F1 engine
if you listen closely to other V10 machines (even production cars like the audi r8), you will notice a similarity with the note from the exhaust
Due to the regulations for world sportscar racing at the time, the engines in the 905 were built to the same specifications as those found in Formula One cars of the time (i.e. 3.5 litre naturally aspirated). The Jaguar XJR-14 of 1991 actually shared its Ford HB V8 engine with the Benetton F1 car of the same year, albeit in a mildly detuned spec to aid reliability. As for the Peugeot 905's SA-35 engine this never found its way in to a F1 car, Peugeot instead designing a brand new unit, with a different vee angle, when they entered the sport in 1994. Compared to the bulletproof SA-35 engine, the A4 and A6 engines used in the McLaren proved unreliable.
Thank you for the information guys!
+Tom Bernacki In reality this was an F1 in disguise a lovely disguise though :-}
Heel gaaf! Nog nooit van deze auto gehoord
I would let this car roll over my foot😍
That voice ..
my fav car behind the XJR
French engineering has nothing to prove against German's oneb
Amazing.
End of.
2:21 is delightful
Glory Be to the V10 Lord !!!!! :)
Bien sûr ! un V10 de 10Batteries au lithium en V MDR (il faut bien rire et espérer)
How tf do ppl think the 787b was better than this ill never understand
Mastur Binho 787B is iconic and a fan favorite for many reasons being that it is Rotary powered car winning an endurance race. However the 905 is still a personal favorite of mine as it barely aged sice 1993 and its basically a full bodied F1 car
My favourite after Sauber C11
looks like Spa has a car lift to and from the lower pit/paddock - red windowless bldg seen here opp. La Source
Oh que c'est bon !!!!!
Epic sound but still doesn't beat the scream of the Mazda Rotary 767s & 787s
+Joshua Peifer Maybe not. The Peugeot is faster on track though and would win a race between them easily.
vulcanproject the 787b is more reliable though
Joshua Peifer Nah. The 905 won it's 1992 sportscar championship as well as le mans, The mazda only really won le mans cos of problems with it's rivals. It finished quite low in all the other races in that season. It wasn't actually that fast or that good compared to it's direct rivals, the 905 on the other hand...
+Joshua Peifer I prefer the rumble growl of a Mercedes C9/C11 thanks
I'll take the Jaguar XJR-14 over anything
Peugeot, come back...
If Peugeot put is engine in there mpv called Peugeot 806-807 or the partner or boxer etc they would have the nicest v10 powers van , car , hatchback and mpv.
They could of done it back then like the Reno espacse did with there mpv.
My favorite Le Mans car the 905 is
Is this Yoda?
Yoda likes cars?
ATMOSPHERIQUE...
NOT TURBO ...
I think I need to go to the emergency room...
BECAUSE I JUST OVERDOSED ON AWESOME!
Dan maar zo naar de Peugeot V10 luisteren. :P
The guy in the Fiesta 2:07 was probably deafened
Was this a private track day? Wanted to try and the chance to drive one with AGS, but I understand the car was sold last year. I wonder if this is the same car? Saw this car the first time I was at Le Mans in '93. Awesome piece of machinery.
I dont really know if this car was new for the owner!
Lovely car indeed.
ahh pornographic car , beautiful
"to all but a few, it is still a very foreign car...."
TF that's an undercover F1 car
Lekkere vid eat this F1 ;)
Wait, a NASCAR stock car on Spa-Francorchamps?!? What sorcery is this?
This is not Spa .
This is a huge non flat parking lot in the middle of Ardennes forest
European cars always on top, except breef moment with Shelby, but even this moment the pilot was european (British).
Nice car nice sound but still can beat mazda 787b
pfft. i wish i was driving that car, and that guy was at home drinking cold beer watching youtube....pffft. lolz
looks like this car has a exhaust blown diffuser?
Every person who pressed dislike just missed the like button by mistake
New 2019 Chevy Impala Stock Car?
MacLaren engine 1994??
This car is really uncommon.
BIG WANG GANG
A Dijon?!
Is the gearbox meant to sound like that on downshift? Sounds like it's past its best
Niall McBride it was a stick shift back then, not sequential
That's true but really I don't think it would sound with a sequential I like that little pause in between gear changes
Only sound and slow speed
+LeKeGniGit à LM classic ?????
E formula
A Nascar WTF???
Lavandina Querubín yeah European NASCAR series
