Just looking around for videos on how to sit the canter, this is the best put together and explained demo I've seen. Really great teaching video!

Thank you, this really helped! I always feel like I'm bouncing out of the saddle in a canter. I'm going to try all of these tips today and start working on them regularly! This was the best video I've found to explain how to correct what I've been doing.

I just started cantering. I'll have to remember some of these tips for my next lesson...

Me too! I think we older ones have extra challenges, like fear. I just turned 54 and I worry cuz I don't bounce very well anymore. Anyway, I found this video really helpful.

I can't stop watching this video. He's so darn cute and it's an adorable video--and all so correct! Who says lessons aren't fun? I would venture a guess that Mr. Cameron would be a BLAST to work with! It's obvious he loves what he does and loves to teach.

i used to ride a lot when i was a kid but stopped when i gained a lot of weight. i've lost 52lbs so far but i have a lot to go and just starting to ride again. i find it VERY hard to control my bouncing. and to canter i have to lean forward and almost stand which i know is so wrong. this will help me hopefully. i cant decide if its still because i am overweight that its so hard or if it just that im so out of shape with riding. but im getting there. i hope this will help.

ride in bareback pad teaches you how to hang on with your legs and how to move with the horse.

If your spine has healed I'm guessing that you are having trouble with suppling your back. Part of this is probably mental (protecting your back), but your muscles need to stretch and be strong again. I had both my hips replaced 3 weeks apart and I had way more scar tissue than normal (as well as calcification of the muscles). What has helped me the most is deep tissue massage. Deep tissue massage breaks up the scar tissue and increase flexibility (along with the stretches you should be doing).

I am in need of some real help. I had to have back surgery 6 months ago and dont have the hip movement i need. While i am trying to focus on my riding and keeping my rear in the saddle, my horse will move one way or the other at random and it really throws me out of the saddle. I am getting frustrated, can anyone give me some advice????

Tbh I suck so bad at riding. I can barely post trot (even tho I'm in western) I feel self-conscious about how I trot and canter. I move I get out of my saddle. I'm going to have to work everyday and watch this so much so that I can drill it into my mind

What you need to do before ever cantering anywhere is get control of your horse. Get him working off your legs so you can put both calves on him for straight and take one off for turning. It will make him safer and more fun to ride.

i am 13 also im riding a tennessee walker his name is peanut.he wont move,at all. and if i get him to gallop he will go around trees sometimes like as if he was barrel racing and half the time i get dizzy since he does it so fast.now how can i make him turn when I want him to not when he wants to and how to make him walk or trot when i want to not when he wants to. you see he is like secretariat he does what he wants to dop when he wants to do it and how he wants to do it.im tired of it.

If you have a round pen, maybe you should have somebody lounging him while you focus on you. Does that make any sense? I guess you don't have to have a round pen, but someplace flat would be good. Take it easy!

Spend some time with someone who has more experience than you do, Noel, and plan on doing a LOT of ring work until you and your horse are both comfortable with your cues and communication.
