Love the color of cedar, specially when it turns silver, it's just awesome.

I install cedar shakes about once a year for high end customers in California. We have to use the fire retardant shakes and underlayment. They look so beautiful when new but double the cost of comp shingles. I also enjoy installing them nothing like the smell of cedar in the morning!

It’s a niche market, high end homes and specific areas that want to keep that look. It’s not for your typical cookie cutter neighborhoods. It’s high end high dollar 💵 product for the wealthy designer homes

Cedar helps keep your house cooler than shingles. Note that point!

I think cedar just makes better siding, it's great siding but wood just can't handle constant soaking water cycles

Good point. But we still build our saunas with cedar… just a thought

Cedar looks great new, but the fire retardent does wear off. I'd opt for a higher fire rated product.

Couldn’t you spray apply a fire retardant after several years? Spray wash first? A lot of work but might be worth it.
