I was an engineer cadet on that ship. A good ship and Going to A Coruna was always a treat
Love that ship she's became a cement carrier RN
I wasn onboard on this ship during this time.....Thanks God were safe and sound...
Hi,all experts.I took part in building this ship in the 80s in Wewlsfleth (Germany) and I tell you this is a well- buildt ,strong ship.
Have a nice day. Thomas
Jannik Jana Cool! Not only strong, it looks pretty good too, like the design!:) Im sure it's Well built but seems like they have little ballast, it would need more draft to be steady in these conditions
That's funny you say you built this ship in germany cos if you read the description it say's the ship was built in japan
Anyone else smell that?
I sailed on this ship and it certainly was built in Japan, not germany. When the prop comes out the water it blacks out on the shaft due to engine tripping from overspeed. Not a strong ship at all. Was sold back in 2015(IIRC) from Arklow shipping.
Yeah right....that very old German shipbuilding Company.....
KYOKUYO SHIPBUILDING & IRON WORKS SHIMONOSEKI - JAPAN.
I sailed a few trips with Arklow as chief engineer, River, Moor, Venture etc.
Normally with Arklow you are pumping ballast in at the same time as cargo is being discharged but at La Coruna when a gale is blowing directly in on the harbour you have to sail light as the draught plus the swell means you could scrape the bottom.
is there a connection between the weight of the cargo/ballast and the ships dwt?
Deadweight tonnage is the ship's weight-carrying capacity.
hi, so the dwt is not the weight of the cargo it can carry, some of the dwt will include the weight of ships stores fuel food for the journey?
Number of tons of 2240 lb that a vessel will lift when loaded in salt water to her summer freeboard marks. Includes "crew and effects; passengers and luggage; provisions and stores; fresh water in storage tanks, service tanks, and piping; furniture, bedding, napery, cooking utensils and apparatus, crockery, plate, and cutlery; mails and specie; parcels; cargo; coal in bunkers and on fire grates; oil fuel in tanks and piping; salt water ballasst; spare gear; bilge water; and ashes. -- International Marine Dictionary, de Kerchove, 1948
What years were you bou ncing around with arklow? Myself and a brother of mine with them in the 90s,
Interesting how the Wave Length and the length of the ship combine here to make this a very uncomfortable journey.
Excellent filming. Thank you.
this ship is in ballast to go to a different port to load a cargo, how far does a ship usually travel in ballast to load a cargo before it becomes uneconomic?
Grossly inadequate ballast for the sea conditions. A ship with that construction experiences enormous stresses when thrust out of the water with lite ballast. It would have been much safer to run deeper in the water not only for better steering/power/control, but for reduced stress on the ship's structure. These types of conditions have been known to break ships in half.
you;re right for the bigger ships... but this is a baby.
hehe yep... but look at it compared the big ones.

***** I admit when you said 136m... i was a bit surprised...thought it was smaller.
I looked her up and found the pic.
After a bit of thought...
I bet there is a shallow enough area that they cant run with ballast. thats my guess.

cj g shut uuup... how are you to tell them who to do their job?
When the propeller comes out the water our ship used to shake ,when you got no cargo in it,s horrible.and at sea, we used to run a generator from the propeller shaft.and when the propeller came out the water the lights would get realy bright, then as the propeller went back in the water, the force would slow the engine for a second, and the lights would go really dim, she was built in the 60s. and when it was to bad ,we would start a normal generator. good times ,I miss them. More please..

Muy buena filmacion!!! Impresiona ver la helice fuera del agua.
Awesome video - fascinating to see the propeller lifting right out of the water. I wonder if this over-revs the engine?
***** Thank you for explaining this - though it raises another question - if the engine trips out in rough seas would this not create a dangerous situation for the ship?
***** Thanks again for the information and the link.
Critical speed and dangerous overspeed are two different things. The critical speed which to avoid because of vibrations is normally within the achievable revolution ranges of the engine, often in the 60-70% range and the engineers have to quickly go through this range when increasing revolutions. The max speed is established and is guarded with alarms and eventually cut-off. That said, if the prop is out of the water, the rev will increase uncontrollably, but in all likelihood will go through the dangerous range quickly, like under normal circumstances. The only danger is real overspeed, but is unlikely to manifest itself as the prop will be back in the water; still under these circumstances it would be wise to reduce speed.
Hey hello guys i just read some comments salute and respect to the sailer as you guys know we don't believe in boundaries back in the days people use to wel come sailer cuz is not easy to be in the sea for months and years hell of life and fun...
Where I can find this music? What's the name and the performer?
...most of them (Arklow....) were made in Spanish shipyard of Erandio..Biscay...north of Spain..very good ships
Leaving La Coruna, having discharged the petcoke cargo I fixed her for, having loaded in Castellon.
i ' think this vessel frm Arklow ship company Ireland and how know the tonnage ?
Zego-G ship!? I didn't know Ireland had a space program!
Digo...
Been there, Done that, On the way to Iceland, MARCH 1965 at the Helm of 750 ton Trawler out of Akereary Iceland. Skip- Ardbaker, - Sister ship- Sletbaker. Paid off- Lead-Hand, Second Mate.
superfast propeller but needs ballast the propeller can be broken benik half in the air and half underwater
Very nice!
I used to be a sailor in my early part of my life. Occassionally I feel like going back to sea for a couple of months
Me too, l worked on cargo vessels for almost ten years, was a good experience, my first passport was full of stamps, the second one not to much.
@@marcochavez11 Last week I just followed a new boat on sea worthiness trail
I love General Cargo Ship 😍😍❤❤
I'm amazed at the number of comments from "experts" who know better than a fully qualified ships Master. I wonder what qualifications the commenters have!!!!
The ships master as you like to call him Is some 3rd world minimum wage slave
@@caramelamcphee8106 you dont no enything About People who are sailing for Arklow shipping! Keep your big mouth shut!
Well I was a qualified master or ship captain for 25 yrs with unlimited tonnage and all oceans even though most of my ships 4 where chemical tankers where 250 meters at most mostly sailed atlantic Pacific and indian
@@jamesmcguire764 this ship looks like is over 3000 grt so master on this vessel has also unlimited tonnage license
@@ukaszw6623 he may well have his masters license and unlimited tonnage which is a rare designation I'm just saying the way the ship is acting in the sea conditions never in my life as a mariner have I seen this
Very informative video. thanks for sharing.
Realy like my job on an inland ship but when i see this ik realy would like too sail on that kind of ship for a few weeks
when the prop brakes out of water does the engine governor respond fast enough to maintain rpm..anyone?
The governor must respond fast enough, otherwise the main engine would go into overspeed quick. Overspeeding a slow-speed engine leads to a quick shut-down or even self-destruction. Moments like the filmed ones can not be simulated, so it is such situations that prove if the governor and the overspeed shutdown were adjusted properly.
"Little bit more ballast there mister mate,d'yer think?"
That's exactly what I was thinking.
@@Rufinoman do you realy think These People are insane?? they know what to do
Ppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
it will be taking on ballast while underway, it can take a long time to fill tanks with water, time is money while at sea.
@@brian.7966
True that!
surely that racing is not good for the prop and shaft ??
This is how you break a propeller shaft.
La Caruna is located where the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic meet. The surf wlil have to be seen to be believed. ALL ships pitch there and there is no good way to ballast for it. Witness the (fully laden) QE 2 which already pitches while still between the piers of the outer harbor. That is also why La Caruna is one of the favorite spots for surfers. Look at other videos of La Caruna. Heavy pitching there is a fact of life for all kinds of ships, from super takers to tug boats.

Zero ballast in the tanks? On this kind of weather
even though we keep making bigger ships, Mother Nature will always be bigger.
Hallo i came from indonesia.and you?...🙌🙌
Hallo!. I'm from A Coruna, Spain.
Hollo too brother....i from indonesia too.
Very nice music...who´s the composer?
Was this going north into Bay of Biscay or more west toward the Azores?
North bound
They're gonna need a bigger boat.
Isn't this where driveshafts get broke in half?
depending on environmental laws. that ship my have been forbidden to take on bales while in port. what ever water is in the blast tanks could escape as well and then you contaminate the local water with water from someplace else. Ballasting in ports has caused many new species to invade many ports and fresh water. the grate lake have a shellfish from Asia now they can't control. The captain of the ship is not stupid even though captains do stupid things sometimes. he has his Masters cert or he would not be in the seat.
Is she the sister ship of the Arklow Villa ??????
No. Arklow Wave is length overall 150 metres and gross tonnage 9999. Arklow Villa is loa 86.95 m and gross tonnnage 2999. Best regards
is this vessel 5000 tons ?
Gross tonnage: 8938 and deadweight: 13977 tons
Dangerous waves , i face every year in sea because i am a siemen
jorodmon,
Excellent video...could you please tell me what son you used and who the composer is? Thank you. I am envious of your location on the Bay of Biscay...a beautiful place!

Greater to God are thee
i can see the propeller.
you and me both
I would not like to get in the way of it going.
Maybe the driver could ease of on the excelerator a little when the propellers come out of the water each time and save some petrol already
Whatever an excelerator might be.
Petrol?
what was the cargo?
In ballast
Seesaw, enjoy

The music is very sad
What is balast?
Its water placed in special tanks of the ship to provide stability
+Gustavo Mercado It was a rhetorical question :-)
Ship´s holds was empty. A compartment within a boat, ship, submarine, or other floating structure that holds water is called a ballast tank. Water should move in and out from the ballast tank to balance the ship. In a vessel that travels on the water, the ballast will remain below the water level, to counteract the effects of weight above the water level. Provide stability to the ship.
Obviously the Captain of this ship doesn't know. Wow. You can tell the ship is empty. And you tell it has little to no ballast as well. Amazing.
Walter Engler Dude shut up. Did you even see the gigantic p&o's Ventura leaving this port? It was just like a little toy for this sea
HORRIBLE MUSIC DETERIORATING THE BEAUTIFUL VIDEO
