I'd have to agree with everyone else on the Buffalo here. I think you're overlooking the differences in the dog/buffalo mechanics when you're comparing them aswell. Dog needs a space to get the buff because the ability triggers on 'summon' while buffalo just needs a pet to be 'bought'. You can also get it on turn 5 if you've planned to level something up for that turn, so yeah it's just a wayyyyyy better dog.
Hard disagree. There is a major difference in the time when you get each of them. Early dog makes it very slightly usable since you will be buying more and will have space open, but Buffalo comes way too late for its terrible buffs. Like he said, 1 1 in tier 4 is just terrible when you could just easily get a bison instead. Plus, there is a much wider pool of animals to get in tier 4 so just getting more to upgrade can even take a while.

Buffalo in the last tier (below the Dog lol) is the biggest L take I've seen from Lud when it comes to SAP. Getting it on turn 5 is almost easy 10 wins in my experience. Goat thing isn't a bug either btw. It says friend bought, so it has to be a different unit than itself. Hippo low because of base stats, but Gorilla that high when it's 2 tiers later? (The coconut armor sound is amazing though)
It's true. Buffalo > Bison IMO. Bison very often takes too long to scale and requires you to keep what is likely a pretty useless unit just because it's level 3. A buffalo can be scaled super fast if you want it to and it synergizes with dragon super well and chicken.
A lot of my wins in PTW were with the Buffalo. Fantastic in combination with Dragon and Llama. And the Croc sniped flies, turkeys and sharks for me which gave me the win. Wouldn't rank it much higher but it deserves some respect. otherwise I mostly agree
i have such a hard time using horses because every time i see one i hear northernlion saying "it's a flesh apple" like that is a statement that will haunt me until the end of my days i think
13:40 Think of the buffalo/bison this way: Lvl 1 Bison: feed it twice +2-4, at the end of the round, it still get's +2 +2. Total buffs in a round would be at least +4-6. Lvl 1 buffalo: you want to maximize buying animals. At max (w/o swan, goat) you could buy 4 animals. +4+4 each round. Maybe +2+2 or +3+3 with rolls
Problem with buffalo is that it's so much investment for the scaling of one unit, barring sell buffs like beaver. It limits your options to buy foods because you're locked in all game to buying pets otherwise your buffalo is wasted space. Passive scaling is just so much better because it's free stats vs stats that cost
@@cartersarkela5296 yeah and it locks you into this buy/sell vs food meta. Honestly, you can definitely make it work sometimes, sacrificing stability for a flexible team and rely on the shop for good animal rolls. I think buy/sell is more fun than food meta. and ludwig obviously forgot that economy pets works very nicely with buffalo such as swan pig, pig also happens to be tier 1 which means dragon can buff with buying it. He also doesnt know the BEST EVER turn 5 level up is buffalo, NOT EVEN BISON. For the reason being early game gold matters less than late game gold meaning you get to use early gamr gold for buffalo buy. you easily get a 11/11 by turn 6, buffalo also scales shit fast if you get turn 5 buffalo making it so you ca get A FUCKING 50/50 by turn 11.
Nice list & content!! :) I agree with the majority of the list but have some thoughts: Early Dog & Buffalo (optional Shrimp) is a nice synergised perma gain that gives you 2 ~20/20 to 30/30's by mid game allowing easier transitions into other strategies, and a quick 50/50 with the help of T-Rex or another late game buffer, try it next time you get offered early dog/buffalo, tier 2 dog is kinda needed though. Bat tier 3 is one of the best end-game pets, tier 2 is also great for most of the game and can easily win rounds on it's own by removing melon or garlic from the right unit, it's weak so maybe high B but personally think it's A. I think blue bird and giraffe's scaling are too slow that they should be B tier but it's debatable. Mammoth is C imo, maybe B, compare it to T-Rex which gives you 2/1 every turn and takes the same space as Mammoth, but Mammoth also requires a pill to give it's buff permanently and then you also have to buy something to fill it's slot, whereas T-Rex is a scaling unit you can put steak on etc. Mammoth has it's place but really for a 4 squad build or similar.
Ludwig, Goat is a “friend bought” unit, it doesn’t work on itself, similar to something like a dog buff or a Buffalo not activating for themselves, but rabbit can give itself health so it may be an oversight, who knows
Will you do a food teir list next? Also if you do would you also include what each does as reference for those who may not be super familiar! Thank you love the videos and streams.
Buffalo is really good with chicken or dragon builds. You have to be doing a buy/sell and it's dope. Also it triggers even if you place a pet on top of another. Dog only triggers if you place in an empty slot. It's a situational pet but can be good in tandem with others. Caterpillar is amazing for 2 reasons. Easiest way to ensure you will ALWAYS have level 3 to buff the bison and I lose to them all the time unless I run a dolphin which is meh against anything other than scorpion and butterfly

croc and squirrel deserve to be up a tier. Croc can snipe turkeys, flys, badgers and mostly everything in the back once level 2. Squirrel fits really well with food builds freezing good foods and buying for cheap is nice, ive had some great squirrel runs but def circumstantial.
Crocodile is a must with all the summon spam builds in the meta. Wipe out the turkey or fly (or honey badger) at the back and you just ruin the other team. Way higher than C tier.
I love this video so much...amazing analysis and I really enjoyed this video so much thank you lud BUT... . . . . I don't think shark and bison should be in D-tier...I've actually won a bunch of games with the shark!
For the algorithm I will say I think Bat could go up. I think it does alot early to fuck with garlic armor on big units, is middling mid game but if you go for level 3 can make a big difference late game when basically every unit has some sort of food item buff removing melon armor, steaks and mushrooms on 3 units is strong.
thanks for doing this, I have screen shotted others who have done this and will screenshot your rankings and save to my desktop for reference. I cant figure this game out, played 30 games and have not won a game. The players I play against are always the best.
Dragon is way too high. It's tier 6, and by that time your team should be decently leveled and synergistic that opening two spots is tough, especially keeping one with a tier 1 animal so it'll be used again to cycle through next round. On top of that the RNG of even getting tier 1s in the shop when you want them, vs using the money to buy food or level a pet, it's just a hard unit to utilize. But I guess when things alone, the value is great since one buy is like several apples/pears or a little more than one sushi/pizza/etc.
I played plenty of dog and buffalo builds and let me tell you, getting a 50/50 buffalo is easy, you don't even have to build your entire game around him, the dog on the other hand just blows buffalo is probably one of the best scalling units in the game
@@n2k970 Level 2 Dog is just as good as Level 1 Buffalo, except with opportunity cost since you have to leave a space open for the dog to get buffed. Level 2 Buffalo is already better than Level 3 Dog on stats alone, plus you don't have to leave the open space!
@@n2k970 the buffalo gets the buff even if you just upgrade the pet, for the dog you always have to make extra space, also a level 2 dog is harder to get than a level 1 buffalo so I do think the buffalo is way better
Buffalo being F tier is a cringe take, it literally scales faster than a bison and is more flexible as long as you get it early enough since it's more rare than you'd think getting a tier 3 unit as well as your tier 3 not being great. One argument for the bison is it's amazing synergy with the caterpillar which you also have at a very low tier so obviously you don't even value that aspect that much. Also the worm scales much slower than a buffalo as well since it gets it's 1/1 every 3 gold rather than 2 not including any buy or sell upsides with the animals bought, and not including the fact that not that many food items work well with the worm and you often need to roll much more often.
I like your tier list because I can tell it's your own. Nothing against Stanz, but when I watch him play he very clearly thinks X is good/bad because someone better than him said that - and not for literally any reason other than that (well I guess unless you're counting his confirmation bias). Like he thinks Horse-Cricket is bad too when it literally dominates early rounds - and he now thinks that the old version of Duck was horrible even though on the old patch he said it was good enough to warrant inting 2-3 rounds a game for them. I know people opinions change as they improve, but they should change because of data, not because someone else said so. This is a problem in the LoL community aswell. People will think X,Y, and Z items are good/bad because it's what pros are building - when the reality is 99% of pros don't even know the reasoning behind the buys, they do it because it's what they see other people doing.
I think the bat should move up, his biggest reason for mosquito was that it removed melon armor from units late game, and the bat does the same thing but more
I think the Dog/Buffalo/Scampy/Swan engine is underrated post-nerf. It's not as oppressive as it once was since the Dog comes 1 round later but it still works when you get it on the level-up.
I think I would've liked to see a tier list based on good early game animals, late game, mid game, pivot animals, and maybe animals that you could keep throughout. I also think this list is more arena based, I see croc, hippo, bat and rhino as A ranked animals in versus.
Buffalo>Bison. You generally can give it 3/3 per turn you dont have to hold a shitty tier 3 unit to proc it and it fits perfect in a 4 squad marty build.
Nah cus bison doesn’t cost any gold essentially self buffing, then you can use your gold to buff someone else instead of just have one big unit. Dead on arrival for buffalo is wild tho
@@4purs That's only assuming you're fully committed to buy/sell and not buying things to help your team. It's like an added apple to each pet purchase which can be huge. Level 2 you can get it to 50/50 REALLY quick. I think it's probably the quickest scaling unit in the game. Ranking it dead on arrival is absolutely insane to me and shows you probably just haven't given it a real shot or are playing it really ineffectively. I'd put it somewhere between A and B, mayyyybe on the same tier as bison
@@Gorbgorbenson idk, I feel like buffalo not only needs (obviously) an open slot to buy and sell units, it also needs another 1 or 2 slots for other animals like chicken or dragon because by itself is meh. Also for bison it's good enough that you can buff it normally (with food/ other scalers) so you can use a lvl animal that's a higher tier instead of being stuck with a tier 1 or 2.
I sometimes buy ducks. IMO, they're better than a beaver in many cases. I'm almost never looking for a duck but getting a few, waiting for a lucky store, doing a mass wipe, and buying the store, you can really get some good animals.
The money background is literally Big As OBS overlay or some thing he used it alot for marketing monday. Probably got there when he was using Luds setup
Mammoth is kind of a hot take but I agree, a level 2 Mammoth with a 1 up is actually just gross. similar to a 1 up deer, the value is just menacing. monkey overrated imo, it is good but i prefer the ability of the Penguin as you can get it so much earlier and buff multiple units. the penguin requirement isn't that brutal. Also the new patchnotes are out so you should do a small update with just the potential changes of the updated units.
Catterpillar gives you some nice +1 tier option when it upgrades for free. Also it is basicly free because it goes from lvl1 to lvl 3 for free after which you can sell it. You should just never build a team around the catterpillar, but as an enabler then it is good.
You are underestimating the buffalo so hard, combine it with goat and chick and it will scale while at the same time you will scale the shop to 50/50. Or any unit that works with buying and selling units. At least a B tier maybe A tier, that beetle there lul, it's just 2/3 his ability sucks it's not perma, the fish is like a 10 times better version
Completely agree with buffalo, either really high B or it's A tier. That being said, beetle is probably 3rd or 4th priority on turn 1/2 which is why it's B tier. You could use it's ability MAYBE but it gets all it's value from it's 2/3 stats(which is the highest possible vanilla stats from a tier 1 unit, although maybe you count the ant as higher) and you're probably selling it by the time you get tier 3 units. Agree that it's a worse fish though.
Turkey can be used without summons as a late game pivoter. +3/+3 on spawn is just huge. Think of it like a permanent horse or just a strictly better lobster. Too many people are attached to their teams to commit tho.
My first win involved a level 3 cricket to the end of the game so I'm slightly biased in favor of them. They're good in an early game dedicated summon build.
Problem with Beaver, as compared with, say, Otter, is that it's ability, while decent value for early game, is super slow. If you get a beaver on turn 1, you probably won't sell it turn 2 unless things align perfectly because you're still populating out your five slots and losing an animal for 1 gold isn't an option. Maybe not even turn 3. Vs Otter, which has a comparable benefit and worse stats, but its effect happens instantly and is thus very meta.
Buffalo is undervalued by Lud. There are so many pets that work well with it. Alot of pets want to be bought and sold. Gives chicken build survivability. Dog/Buffalo is one of my go-to builds.
Caterpillar is cracked, it basically doubles all investments, and with a turtle it'll have equipment. You can get a 50/50 for 3 gold, the only downside is you have useless space for 5 turns. Def A tier.
Dragon in S is psychopathic. Even if you think dedicating 2 team slots to giving your other 3 units +1/+1 is worth it, you've got to consider the cost of rerolling the shop fishing for level 1's. Plus with how hard the pay 2 win deck scales, getting effectively stuck on 4 unts is a massive downside. Dragon is C tier, at best.
This is just based on strategies tbh. I agree on many of these, but i see how his playstyle makes him choose some pets over others.

Ludwig coming from someone normal not a CEO from super auto pets... What animal would you like to see added to this game. I personally think a chameleon could be interesting which would introduce a new concept of stealing your rivals abilities.
I wanna see a red panda because they're cute and it could be a trickster type of mechanic
a wolf where the more wolfs you have the more buffs your wolfs get
I'm thinking there's a severe lack of bears. Brown, black, polar and even pandas
Koala - hurt: gives enemies std I mean weakness.
Frog
whale is super gimmicky but man do i think it’s so fun to pull off, deer whale ox goes crazy
It's strange that Ludwig likes "buy/sell" animals like Chicken and Dragon so much but hates Buffalo with passion.
dont forget the slander on scampi
I'm gonna just pretend you didn't put that Bluebird above an Ant
giving attack for permanent for every turn essentially being a small scaler AS A FUCKING TIER 1? thats almost as good as otter
This content is immense. I love it
NL should do another tier list too
Sloth has been ROBBED! Absolutely cumstered, you should be ashamed of yourself for forgetting such a godlike creature. The absolute content buff it gives is amazing. Literally tons of clout for just 3 gold 🦥
Also: whale gang + L + ratio 🐋
1:00:50 skunk also a good combo with dolphin. Make 50/50 and 50/1 and then doplphin hits lowest HP target and just kills it.. kinda broken
50 50 has melon so dolphin is invaild
@@invin_2940 yeah not to mention he's assuming you get level 3 skunk which is very rare and generally a bad idea as decreasing by 66% means they should die late game to any of your big units in one hit.
(The coconut armor sound is amazing though)
he didn't mean a literal bug just that it should work for itself
@@Minkeyman42069 He said it was an oversight on their part, but they worded it right there, so it is intentional.
It's true. Buffalo > Bison IMO. Bison very often takes too long to scale and requires you to keep what is likely a pretty useless unit just because it's level 3. A buffalo can be scaled super fast if you want it to and it synergizes with dragon super well and chicken.
I really wanna see an updated version of this list with the changes and new pets
does he even play this game now?
Shark works really well around a faint deck and *cough* *cough* summon decks
It also can dodge the skunk if you just have something with slightly more health
i would love more exclusives on here, its good to hear the chill vibe instead of the live one from time to time. same for mogul mail, love it
A lot of my wins in PTW were with the Buffalo. Fantastic in combination with Dragon and Llama. And the Croc sniped flies, turkeys and sharks for me which gave me the win. Wouldn't rank it much higher but it deserves some respect. otherwise I mostly agree
all i learned is that ludwig doesn’t know the base stats of any animal
You should use Buffalo more, it actually is good, at least B.
It’s just a late dog
@@Frungle_ it's a late dog before they made dog trash. Dog was probably A or even S tier before that, so a B tier should be fair.
Buffalo scales so much faster than bison for the cost of an extra slot. It's actually cracked. Easy b tier in my book. Dog is trash now
i have such a hard time using horses because every time i see one i hear northernlion saying "it's a flesh apple" like that is a statement that will haunt me until the end of my days i think
damn crazy how much the game has changed since then lmao
13:40
Think of the buffalo/bison this way:
Lvl 1 Bison: feed it twice +2-4, at the end of the round, it still get's +2 +2. Total buffs in a round would be at least +4-6.
Lvl 1 buffalo: you want to maximize buying animals. At max (w/o swan, goat) you could buy 4 animals. +4+4 each round. Maybe +2+2 or +3+3 with rolls
Only problem is bison requires a level three and sometimes that just happens way too late. You have a bit more control of the Buffalo.
There's just a lot more thinking required for food meta.
@@cartersarkela5296 bro dog exist you can get dog with buffalo and also in p2w there is owl where is the same pack as buffalo making there more option for buffalo buy sell, also when you get to tier 5 goat exist making it so u get like at least one more pet buy, not long after tier 5 is tier 6 where dragon exist, do i say more with dragon buffalo dog? no
and ludwig obviously forgot that economy pets works very nicely with buffalo such as swan pig, pig also happens to be tier 1 which means dragon can buff with buying it.
:) I agree with the majority of the list but have some thoughts:
Early Dog & Buffalo (optional Shrimp) is a nice synergised perma gain that gives you 2 ~20/20 to 30/30's by mid game allowing easier transitions into other strategies, and a quick 50/50 with the help of T-Rex or another late game buffer, try it next time you get offered early dog/buffalo, tier 2 dog is kinda needed though.
Massively undervalued the squirrel. Freezing the food in the shop and getting it cheaper next round is really helpful.
Halfway between an apple and a pear would be an Asian pear. Tastes sorta like a combination of both with a consistency closer to an apple.
favorite fruit but no one ever seems to know about it lol
Ludwig, Goat is a “friend bought” unit, it doesn’t work on itself, similar to something like a dog buff or a Buffalo not activating for themselves, but rabbit can give itself health so it may be an oversight, who knows
Really loving the straight to youtube content lud
Lol isn't all his content straight to RUclips now though?
Snail is S-tier for sure, buffs your whole team for two gold if buy and sell and can always freeze for later for +4/+2
Will you do a food teir list next?
I don't have the pack, so buffalo sounds like a dream to me compared to all the times I've miserably struggled trying to get dog off the ground.
@@psychedelicbee5039 oof dog is a trap! It used to be better because it showed up a tier earlier but now by the time you get it, it's almost impossible to get it working. They nerfed too hard imo
@@psychedelicbee5039 honestly the five bucks for the pack is really worth how much fun it is
I agree, I wouldn't put it in anything higher than top of C tho
@@lucaskasssab4543 I'm planning on getting it just not sure when. Kinda wanna get all level 3 units from free to play first, but I also feel like I'm getting a little burnt out doing that
croc and squirrel deserve to be up a tier. Croc can snipe turkeys, flys, badgers and mostly everything in the back once level 2. Squirrel fits really well with food builds freezing good foods and buying for cheap is nice, ive had some great squirrel runs but def circumstantial.
He really did put the buffalo below the dog
you know your game is good when the tier list is this balanced
badger in B is the biggest throw ive seen since the last Pogchamps
It would be cool if lud or someone did a challenge where they only used the A or S tier units from this list. Great video!
Crocodile is a must with all the summon spam builds in the meta. Wipe out the turkey or fly (or honey badger) at the back and you just ruin the other team. Way higher than C tier.
I love this video so much...amazing analysis and I really enjoyed this video so much thank you lud BUT...

But I guess when things alone, the value is great since one buy is like several apples/pears or a little more than one sushi/pizza/etc.
you forgot to put boar on the tier list
ludwig rly forgot fly when talking about summon builds lmao
I played plenty of dog and buffalo builds and let me tell you, getting a 50/50 buffalo is easy, you don't even have to build your entire game around him, the dog on the other hand just blows
buffalo is probably one of the best scalling units in the game
Early lvl 2 dog is just as good as buffalo. Dog only sucks when it’s stuck lvl 1 all game
Buffalo, dog, shrimp is one of my favorite builds
@@n2k970 Level 2 Dog is just as good as Level 1 Buffalo, except with opportunity cost since you have to leave a space open for the dog to get buffed. Level 2 Buffalo is already better than Level 3 Dog on stats alone, plus you don't have to leave the open space!
@@n2k970 the buffalo gets the buff even if you just upgrade the pet, for the dog you always have to make extra space, also a level 2 dog is harder to get than a level 1 buffalo
so I do think the buffalo is way better
He actually came back from the corner store this time
Everybody start talking like Stanz and Northernlion when making autopets content
Used this tier list as reference... now im winning alll my games 🙌
The Ox being able to constantly reset its melon is what makes it so frustrating. Can't snipe it.
Used your advice, immediately got nine wins but lost to a honey bee
Caterpillar is A tier for me. Its overpowered when stacked with a bison, puppy, etc. Only if you get in early game though.
Thats what ludwig said. It's shit later on.
@@ravensiIva But how is it shitty late game? Pretty much a free 50/50 pet
@@roodiger he means its shit to buy later on. if butterfly kept food and/or didn't become a 1/1 it'd be way better.
@@cabbagedemon5944 there is a counter for pretty much every pet. You can't not run him just in case a wild dolphin appears lol still a great pet
@@Sekrai it's a tier 3 though. That's like saying it's shit to buy an ant on turn 12

It's not as oppressive as it once was since the Dog comes 1 round later but it still works when you get it on the level-up.
crocodile is definitely not that low, it can call aback unit which are usually important like turkeys or sharks or badgers
I think I would've liked to see a tier list based on good early game animals, late game, mid game, pivot animals, and maybe animals that you could keep throughout. I also think this list is more arena based, I see croc, hippo, bat and rhino as A ranked animals in versus.
Lud's gonna be going comp in SAP soon I bet.
Yesss, I've been waiting for this one

Where’s boar?
I love all the SAP vods, they don’t miss
I learned that a tier 2 tiger behind a tier 3 octopus gives the octopus +8/+8 before every combat, which is kinda crazy.
@JaylaSuburbs Sure, but Buffalo allows you to focus on your build rather than buffing units that you pivot away from.
@@zl1ck371 You still need 2 slots for Bison unless it's lvl 3
I sometimes buy ducks. IMO, they're better than a beaver in many cases. I'm almost never looking for a duck but getting a few, waiting for a lucky store, doing a mass wipe, and buying the store, you can really get some good animals.
The money background is literally Big As OBS overlay or some thing he used it alot for marketing monday. Probably got there when he was using Luds setup
Best part of the video is listening to Ludwig not know how to do math
Mammoth is kind of a hot take but I agree, a level 2 Mammoth with a 1 up is actually just gross. similar to a 1 up deer, the value is just menacing. monkey overrated imo, it is good but i prefer the ability of the Penguin as you can get it so much earlier and buff multiple units. the penguin requirement isn't that brutal. Also the new patchnotes are out so you should do a small update with just the potential changes of the updated units.
snails always a good option cause your always taking the L
Catterpillar gives you some nice +1 tier option when it upgrades for free. Also it is basicly free because it goes from lvl1 to lvl 3 for free after which you can sell it. You should just never build a team around the catterpillar, but as an enabler then it is good.

Animals from the shop will take over the original animals stats if it’s big enough
FINALLY. IVE WANTED THIS LIST FOR SO LONG
Here I was, giving up on life, and ludwig vods drops another video to feed my copuim
Bison is situational. I can't tell you how many times I've skipped it because level 3 was nowhere in sight.
badger gets rocked by every sniper and if you invest in it too much the rest of the enemy team will destroy everything else
up next, SAP food tier list
Agree that it's a worse fish though.
buffalo is also THE ONLY REASON chicken pops in arena
Turkey can be used without summons as a late game pivoter. +3/+3 on spawn is just huge. Think of it like a permanent horse or just a strictly better lobster. Too many people are attached to their teams to commit tho.
My first win involved a level 3 cricket to the end of the game so I'm slightly biased in favor of them. They're good in an early game dedicated summon build.
I like how the Cow is a See it Buy it because in for example Dragon builds you see the cow, buy the cow, sell the cow
Otter is actually goated. So happy I'm not the only one who thinks so.
I am literally playing a dog summon buff build right now Lud how the fuck did you know
honey badger should be S tier, as it's often basically equivalent to rolling a 6-man team.
It’s actually impressive that despite getting 100% achievements, Lud still doesnt have all the effects memorized lmao
you should compare the tier list to your most used and least used stats
yeah he mentioned them in the beginning but never showed them, like wut?
Buffalo, Pig, Billy Goat in D tier? It'll be ultra easy to win with Ludwigs worst ranked creatures XD Almost a free win.
Buffalo is undervalued by Lud. There are so many pets that work well with it. Alot of pets want to be bought and sold. Gives chicken build survivability. Dog/Buffalo is one of my go-to builds.
i LOVE the SAP content so much
Caterpillar is cracked, it basically doubles all investments, and with a turtle it'll have equipment.
Like how lud is drinking from a twitch cup
