    Yes, you are very fortunate to have friends who look out for you and your interests, Joe!! I take it, you help them out with record deals and info. they wouldn't have knowledge of, in return. That's the way good business dealings SHOULD go!!! Thanks for another great video, Joe!!

    Hey Joe...it's Pete from infinity...I checked out Spizer's The Beatles on Parlophone...the Let It Be Box did, indeed, come out INITIALLY with a red Apple at the bottom of the back cover...I guess there was an additional run of pressings because THOSE had the green Apple. Either way, GREAT find on your part!!

      +peter stergakos -- Hi Pete .. thanks for checking in! As wonderful a condition as this Let It Be Box was, something about finding out that the Green Apple on the LP cover was not original kind of always stuck in my craw.

    The '78 Blue Box is held in high esteem by collectors. Its quite a popular needle drop among CD collectors as well. I have a CD of Abbey Road from this box and it sounds beautiful.

    You are utterly right: the UK Blue box is true analog as opposed to the digitally remastered stereo box. The blue box, the US Magical Mystery Tour, Hollywood Bowl and the Red & Blue albums are my go to LP's for listening pleasure. I enjoy these more than words can say!
    Sometimes, I like to spin Love Songs and Rock n' Roll. At some point I need to pick up some of the US albums: specially Rubber Soul, Second Album and Rarities. And the mono box.
    Although, I am somewhat confined to collecting Beatles, Harrison, ELO and Crowded House, your passion for vinyl is contagious.

    •  4 года назад

      What I wish: Mono box and YS, AR and LIB (I don't really like Beatles on stereo... In that case I woud go for the blue box too)

    Excellent clip Joe & excellent 2 finds, I got the Beatles Blue Box back in 1978 in New Zealand & remember it cost me $70.00 NZ dollars back then, The flap on the box broke away only a few years after I got it. I didn't realise it at the time but we got a bit short changed & basically ripped off in New Zealand by EMI as the Sgt Pepper LP didn't come out in a gatefold, didn't have the insert or the colored inner sleeve. Looking back it's amazing to think I didn't even know about the gatefold Sgt Pepper until I moved to Australia in the mid 80's !. I still have all those blue box albums but rarely play those particular ones as they have what I now consider bad mixes done in the mid 70's when they put all the vocals & drums on one side & guitars and backing vocals on the other, interesting to listen to sometimes, but the new mixes are far superior, but back in the 70's when stereo's had a 'ballance' knob I used to like playing just the instruments on one side or just the vocals & drums on the other just for fun, ( a bit like an early version of Kareoke ?) or I could flick the Mono switch to flatten out those mid 70's mixes. Incidentally my Let it be LP from 1970 & from the box set have the red Apple on the back. I would love to get the original Let It Be Box in my collection one day, it will be interesting to see what the new Let It Be box sets look like, I guess we'll know soon. Cheers mate.

    The original 1978 UK BC13 boxed set also included a 3' x 2' poster of the White Album portraits. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I have a vague memory that the photos on the poster might even have been alternative shots.

    You sure are blessed to live so close to such a great record store. Also, it’s really nice that you have such a great relationship with Joe and Corey and they always keep you in mind when some great finds come in. There is nothing close to this in NC where I live....it’s a real dead zone as far as great record finds are concerned. Most of the records I’m interested in I have to buy on Discogs or Ebay. Thanks for the great videos!

      I sold it, I regret to say. For one reason, I really needed the cash.. but I was always uncomfortable with my copy of the LP having a GREEN Apple logo on it instead of the proper RED one. Everyone told me that makes it unofficial or something (even in these comments if you read them)... and I always felt that I didn't have the "right one".

    I have gone on record, as a Beatles fan saying that the Beatles mono vinyl reissues (all analogue-all the way) is the most important vinyl reissue in history. It's also maybe the best the Beatles got on vinyl. Great 180 gram UK pressings- they sound great. I have had the early Japanese import mono Beatles, also great but this new reissue has it beat.

  • @Chip8224

    Always wanted the LIB boxed set. I've heard, like you mentioned, that the pages fall out of the book pretty easily.
    I never realized LIB wasn't a gatefold in England until I got the stereo vinyl box set a few years back, and also isn't on a red apple label.

    • @debbiekappel7402
      @debbiekappel7402 9 лет назад

      +Matthew Smith The red Apple was an idea of Alan Steckler's over at Capitol. He wanted all the "special project" Beatle albums to have a custom Apple. He was also behind the orange Apple for ATMP (why THAT album had the different colored Apple in Europe and LIB didn't, is a mystery).

    The actual album sleeve should have a 'Red' apple on the back side instead of green - if it's an original box "set". Yours has the green apple - which indicates that someone put a newer EMI/UK pressing in the kit to try and make it complete. Check the dead wax matrix.

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  5 лет назад

      Anton A - This is why | decided to sell this box a few years ago...but now I sort of regret it. The green apple just bothered me so I sold the box. I should have kept the Apple advertisement, at least. I figured that this box was found in the home of an older woman from the UK, who did not seem like the type who would have "pieced together" a complete set; it seemed that she would have bought it when it was new and not really bothered with it. She also had a few other original Beatles albums from England in her home.

    Great scores Joe. I have only ever seen one LIB box in person. It was in Toronto in the '80, trashed and they wanted $150.00 for it way back then. The Blue Box is immaculate as well. I have been (a mostly poor) Beatle collector since the late '70s, and I have none of the grails in my collection. There needs to be a Green box for us jealous collectors! (LOL) Take care.

      Steve Hammer - Thanks for watching, Steve. I do regret to say, however, that I have since sold this box, and I regret it. The reason was because I was not sure of the LP itself inside, having a green apple on the back of the sleeve (album jacket). Many commenters were informing me that the official release was supposed to have a red apple on the rear jacket.

    The blue box is no less than the best. Mine is my most prized Beatles piece. I bought it back in 81 and have loved it ever since. The records are from the original masters and I think they still sound the best, Giles Martin mixes aside. the red (black in the US) box is just about impossible to get. any I've found are in the thousands of dollars. I suggest you put the records in protector sleeves. They'll still fit in the box, tightly though. the Rarities album was released separately but it had a different back cover. The LIB box is magnificent. Definitely a keeper.

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  5 лет назад

      FitToBe TieDyed - Thanks for commenting - but it brings me regret to tell you that I ultimately had to sell both these grails when I needed some cash in a pinch. But I do recall you saying how much you prefer that blue box sound quality. At the time I was collecting it more for "show" than to play; but now I have a nice new cartridge for my turntable and would have spun the discs. There is always going to be a chance to get another blue box but I doubt the condition will be as great as this one was. Ditto for the LIB box.. but in that case commenters were telling me that the Apple logo was supposed to be RED and not GREEN (as this one was) so I never felt completely satisfied that I had an official one.

    The Apple albums promo poster could not have come with original Abbey Road albums because there are a couple of albums pictured on it that were released AFTER Abbey Road - eg. 'Wedding Album', 'Live Peace in Toronto, 1969'.

    Supposedly the first pressings have a red apple on the back of the LP sleeve. Joe's has a green apple. Why was this changed? Is the green apple a later pressing?

      Andrew B - This oddity perplexed me so much that I wound up selling the box when I was in need of some quick cash. I kind of regret doing that now, as this was really in great shape - but I was never pleased with that green apple.

      The Apple logo on the back side of the album was red this one is green with red!
      And ours was bought a year or so, after it came out!
      Oh, and btw, the label of this UK-made album was green same as the other Beatles albums of theirs we had; the ugly tomoto-red label was the US version!
      The Let it Be book keel was very brittle and quickly came apart!
      AFTERTHOUGHT!
      --- Here I am, going on about the Let it Be book; I think they had already printed the book before the name change, came about, thus the book is called GET BACK!
      The placard or the poster insert thing I remembered instantly lol!
      --- It may have come with this box, I don't think it came with Yellow Submarine or the Abbey Road album!
      I don't remember, really, but of course it came with other artists albums as well, besides Beatles albums.
      "The Beatles Again" Album flashes suddenly in my mind!
      What they in the States called the "Hey Jude" album!
      Lol, there may be a reason for my flashback, although I don't connect ... memory is a tricky thing!
      It may have come to us, brothers in that album!
      And I also bought the Beatles Bluebox, but I don't believe the opening flaps were anything to worry about ... until after many years ..
      The Beatles Blue Box was a quality product in every way!
      Well, except maybe for the bonus "Rarities" album, which was mostly in MONO, when what you needed in your collection were the STEREO renditions!

      Konngeman - I hate to say this, but since making this video I have sold this LIB box. And the reason I've sold it is because I was never sure why there was a GREEN apple instead of a RED apple on the back cover. Even though this box was in great shape, something never sat right with me (there were even comments here from people alerting me to the Green apple thing).

      The UK pressings that originally came in the boxed set had a red Apple logo on the back of the record sleeve. Non boxed set issues had a green Apple logo on the back of the record sleeve. All UK pressings (boxed or unboxed) had green Apple labels on the actual record.

    I have had this Let It Be boxset more than once, 1 was a Canadian. I am pretty positive, 100% positive as a matter of fact, that the LP was a gatefold. The one you are showing must be a UK pressing?

      smfcpthowdy I haven't looked close enough but I figured because the owner was a British woman in her 60's that it was UK. However, the apple on the back of the LP here is green when it was originally red.

    You really should've kept that LIB set based on the condition and the fact it had the rare Apple insert. Maybe a "red" Apple on the back UK LP would've surfaced at some point. I own one without the insert, but the condition is far less than the one you once owned. So much for treasuring a true grail Beatles piece purchased at an awesome price. I would think there would have been some less desirable records to part with instead. I guess we all make a mistake or two that we'll regret forever.

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  8 лет назад

      Steve Derda - I actually regretted buying the LIB box with the wrong color Apple, and it was nagging at me. True that the package itself was in amazing condition.. but when the opportunity arises again (and I'm sure it will) I'll pick up a nice copy. And with the red apple.

  • @MrElirecords

    Great Beatles Boxes, Joe! I must say that you rarely finds these in such an immaculate condition like yours! I have the Austrlian Blue Box but unfortunatly not in such a great condition, My UK LIB Box is much better, but yours really is one of the best that I've ever seen! Only one thing for your consideration - The Apple on the back should be red and not green,. But that aside, Because you've got a remarkable items for a bargain price and because your poster belong to the LIB album! It is rarely seen because only few of them were given by UK stores to purchasers of the album and not many of them survived...
    Take care,
    Eli

    Just curious if you know anything about this or not, but my vinyl copy of Let It Be, I purchased in a Nashville record store, some 40 years ago. It had a cutout hole punch in the top right corner, which went all the way through the gatefold, into both sections, etc. The real mystery is, the label is the traditional apple label, but the whole thing is shaded pink instead of green. It's that's way on both sides of the label. Pink instead of green or white. Are you aware of anything like that? Never thought to ask anybody about it until I started watching your channel!

    • @MeanMrMayo
      @MeanMrMayo  9 лет назад

      +Collectorofstuff - Sometimes I think that hole punch can indicate an early pressing, or a "promo" copy. I've never heard of the pink shading, but I do know that there seem to be bootlegs of this album that crop up at my used store pretty regularly. In those cases the cover photo is ever so slightly "off", as if it's a copy. I'm not saying that yours is a bootleg -- I don't know -- but I've never heard of the pink. That sounds unusual and maybe rare.
