That's important to remember since 99% of the "racing" you'll do against someone else on the streets will be from a roll.

Then xou realize what fantastic xar it is. But you will find rare occacasions to drive like a maniac, especially in the US with the speed limits
Having driven both, cost no object, the M8 Competition is "more better". More comfortable, quiet and just more liveable. From a dig, its AWD puts it well out in front of the GT500 as seen here, but if you're starting out side by side at 35mph, the 'stang will walk away, no arguing with a 140+/-hp and 70lb-ft power advantage. The 'stang is a rougher ride all-around, mush less refined as expected for a price roughly half the Bimmer's. The unforgiveable issue is fuel economy. Neither is great, obviously, but the GT500 also has a small fuel tank and its range suffers terribly. Road tripping it means a fuel stop at something like 180-200 miles even when babying it. The Bimmer is a better GT car, it can get a bit over 300 miles between refueling stops, so a better long-distance car. But the V-8 rumble from the 'stang is worth a LOT, LOL.
How old are the tires on the GT500? New tires won’t save it against the M8 AWD but just curious since the GT500 has done multiple races on the channel.

Even if you want to point out that the mustang would have past the M8 if the race continued, I would point out that you would be going well over 160 mph at that point, which isn't likely to happen to often, so in most real world stories told a lot of cars are going to be able to say they beat the Shelby.
I want to point out a correction. The mustang driver states that he wishes that the M8 Comp automatically shifts when in launch control. It will automatically shift despite it being in manual shifting mode. After the pull is when the driver regains control of shifting

Looks like two mustangs racing because that BMW has a similar profile to the stang. Great race.
You're right. However, when I look at the trap speed on the return, the Shelby had a higher trap speed than the M8 Also generally speaking, a rolling race will be more appropriate when AWD is put up against RWD IMO....even the playing field a little bit :)
GT500 had its chance on the straightaway. I prefer the GT500 but it’s giving up too much on the launch
The M8’s 1/4 time of 10.8 at 128 matches the current Tesla Model S Long Range (not Plaid)…pretty impressive.
To be fair the M8 is actually as fast as the Model S plaid. They got about the same Nurburgring time. 7:31 vs 7:32

@@Smzxe No it's not. M8 is an 11 second car where S Plaid is 9.3.

With some of these u drags, a theme becomes apparent. When you're in a talent and traction limited setting (99% of us aren't pro drivers), AWD is a massive massive advantage in all phases of hooning your car, save for from a roll. That's important to remember since 99% of the "racing" you'll do against someone else on the streets will be from a roll.
I'd love to see the Shelby GT500 with the Carbon Fiber Track Package.
Bruh shut up
The cup 2 would be a bigger handicap on that surface, not enough time to get any heat in them. Plus it's slower with the aero. Road course would be a different story between the two 500's.
@@DonkeyEvo CFTP is actually CUP2 R's. And sure the launch might not be much better, but the braking and handling would be much improved. Plus this isn't high enough speeds for long enough for aero to really drag it down.
@matt0198922 that is not true, you need to check your facts on the tires, They are cup2's. You can check for yourself, they'll be cup 2's with FP on the sidewall... as far as aero, wickers and rear wing better be doing something at 140+, mph or they are completely pointless..
@@DonkeyEvo Yes, it IS Cup 2 R tires. And I said that they're not going high speed FOR LONG ENOUGH. Sure, a 1 mile drag would matter, but in this race they're slowing down just as they hit significant speeds.

I have to say I like this channel, it’s entertaining and you can see how fast the cars are going. Not to name any other channels but I was watching one and you couldn’t really tell if the cars was going 50 mph or up
Wow, look at the leaderboard. Cars keep getting quicker and faster each year. I'm pretty sure one day these leaderboards will be at 200 mph finish speeds.
I am German and own a M340i which is almost a perfect car. I recently travelled to California and rent a Mustang convertible from Hertz. Hertz added Shelby parts - most importantly the exhaust😮 Fun and Emotion wise the Mustang is much better than my M340i. The Emotion with the BMW comes when you really push it to its limits. Then xou realize what fantastic xar it is. But you will find rare occacasions to drive like a maniac, especially in the US with the speed limits
If y'all have the track length, would you consider doing standing mile or half mile runs?
The bigger issue is how much faster that length allows the cars to go, which leads to greater safety concerns. You never know though!
I agree. I think you should do at least a 1/2 mile. I believe in you guys!
@@edmundscars 1/2 mile would be nice to let the cars stretch their legs. Really shows off the hp difference rather than which car launches better
Keep crying for your American muscle
Absolutely love this concept. Subscribed immediately.

Didn’t look like a real hard launch from the M8 we have seen that car buck and spin do to how brutal and fast the launches are I have honk if Matt Watson from Carwow was driving it would have been a much larger gap.
Launch control is not supposed to induce wheel spin. It’s no skill full computer controlled efficiency.
It doesn't get any better than that launch in the second race. It hooked and booked. And I hate to burst your bubble, but Matt Watson is not a professional driver. I've see him blow far more launches than he's perfected. His only saving grace is when he gets behind the wheel of an AWD car.

The M8 will go through all the gears on its own if you use launch control properly. You must be in manual to launch it, and it will change the gears on its own in manual when in launch mode...
Facts. In Fact, It is better to let the car shift, as the transmission shifts very fast and the AWD is near flawless.
@@executiveinvestments No, the car shifts on its own after launch, ONLY when you let off the gas pedal it'll switch to manual mode. Launch control is the only time the car shifts automatically despite being in S3. I have an M5C so I know.

You guys should've demonstrated the race times on the M8 between it's AWD & RWD time differences to the GT500, now that would've been awesome!
I'd still watch if they turned off the awd in the M8, but I think the point BMW is making is that you can go faster with less power with the simple addition of awd.
Put the M8 against the Corvette Z06.
Unnecessary. You can already see the results on their leaderboard at 8:50

@@AERoVALKYRiE That's still close but, things could be different depending on the drivers and when they switch cars. That's on paper, things can be different on race day.
Exactly! I don’t buy there results. They need to run on the same day/time. Data (1/4 mile time, 0-60, wheel horsepower) suggests it will be closer than their leaderboard suggests.
