Refinery29 I’ve lived with my, then-95 year old grandmother for 3 years after grad school. San Francisco is expensive & tho not all of it was a good experience, I was blessed she let me live with her rent free.
The kids in our family always loved to visit my parents especially my nephew. Now that my folks are no longer here it makes those memories even more bittersweet.
YES!! Finally, people are getting it. This is what makes humans healthy in so many ways. Memories, life experience, love, companionship for the elderly and young. People are starting to realize it is not about MONEY, STATUS. It is human relationships between family, neighbors. Happy Days!!!
I can totally relate! I live with my parents and my 15-year old daughter. We pool our resources together and help each other. It’s pretty great to have this awesome support system.
As a middle easterner this is literally the everyday life :))) we live together as a family, our children stay in until they married and even then they can stay in if they want. But for us it’s not about money but being together
THIS is EXACTLY why I fell in love with my Palestinian fiancé. It's a beautiful culture. The men look out for their women. Women and men act respectfully!
Idk why some thinks this is bad?, if you have a huge ass home with pently of rooms for everyone then its perfect and the family gets privacy and gets to spend time together, its perfect.
Aren't they latinos? But yeah, other families have been doing this from immigration and birth, not from a natural disaster. It kind of romanticizes it in a way. Why not mention the issues of not having personal space?
Oh I meant are THEY latinos, like the people in the video haha. Yeah that's really cramped. My family had 7 people in a 2 bedroom/ 1 bathroom home at some point. I understand, it's really bad in Los Angeles.
Not just Latinos, but us South Asians and even some other Asians. Many tend to live with their parents and grandparents, even some after they are married!
I’m so sorry, some day you can make your own family, whatever that may mean for you. And when you do, may you have all the love you may need or want. If they didn’t show you love, show others and it will come back to you.
This is my family! My grandparents (my Mum's parents) moved in with us two years ago and it's been the best decision. We have meals together and have alone time. My aunts and uncles and cousins live close by and come over to play games, read with my grandma or work on house projects with my grandpa. My mum manages the household and has a workshop downstairs and I help with cleaning and yard-work and laundry. I love living with my family :)
I live with my Parents and Grandparents. We all bought a house together. I’m never alone and we have a lot more money combined. America is very expensive, especially in New Jersey where we live, we do well together.
My family are immigrants and when I was growing up, we all lived together under one roof. My grandparents, my aunts, my mom, and I. It was the happiest time of my life.
Sweetpea that's when you toughen up buttercup and work harder to be on your own. Sometimes when people say that they are ungrateful because they don't realize how the in-laws pay for everything and watch kids and clean the house.
matemahe In my case the in-laws didn't absolutely do anything and we payed rent and bills. That's why we might as well have our own place with privacy especially if your paying for everything!! I was practically the lady of the house making sure things got fixed when they got broken when it wasn't even MY HOUSE!! And I took care of my kid my mother in law never took care of my kid.
im Nigerian american and i grew up with 13 ppl in my house at one point. being a kid and having seven other kids in your house was the best thing ever, and there was always an adult around because there was five of them!
Im living with my mother, if it weren't for her i wouldnt have a home as she"s made for myself and my daughters. As well as my father.. 2018 and beyond we"ll find that generations will be living togther.. Such living situations seem to tigh bonds keep family memories on a daily basis.. I couldn't/ wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Refinery 29 Sincerly Tanja
The Lazy Artist - Only if you are related to all of them maybe. Once you have a boyfriend though who has a brazen, brat-bully sister and a hypocrite of a mother the fun stops rapidly and it feels more like torture.
Denyse Denyse ; Yes, I had a friend whose financial life was a mess due to Wells Fargo’s blood sucking ways. They are awful. Probably all big banks are the same.
It's the norm in so many of the countries I've visited. While many don't really have a choice, most would still choose to live with family. Nobody is killing anybody.
Love this video! It’s so nice to see a video like this since I’m in the exact same situation with my mom, sister and grandparents. Living with extended families has always been a part of my culture (Mohawk), so seeing other people who can relate is awesome!
Thx for this. I'm considering moving in with my mom for health/financial reasons, and this is an interesting perspective on living with family as an adult. We've actually considered buying a duplex together.
It’s lovely when the family gets along, the house is nice for you all & everybody chips in financially. When those 3 things aren’t happening that’s when problems arise.
Finally, a good side about living with family members. I admire how symbiotic the relationship is between all the 3 generations. Take that Michael Rotondo!
My younger sister and I are planning to do this when I relocate to where she lives!!! We also have a younger sister who we hope will jump on board has well😁
When I was growing up in Hong Kong. My brother and I lived with my grandparents and great-grandmother. Sometimes, my uncle will come and live with us when he have work in the city.
This is beautiful. I'm glad this family was able to help each other and during hard times at that. My mother and brother live with me and my child. My other brother and his kids (min 2 of the 4) come on the weekends, during breaks and whenever else there's a need. While I was very anti this and am still not always into it, I am thankful to have a place for them. There can be drama but we always make sure to have fun.
I wish that were the case for me. My "so-called family" are abusers. I had to separate myself. But if I ever have children I'd want us to build like this.
This is how Filipino's do it too. I remember living with my grandma where she would help baby sit my cousins and I. I plan on moving my parents into my house when they retire and when I have kids.
Stormey Danielz Chase helped fund the keystone pipeline which is an accident waiting to happen and took even more lands that belong to native Americans. They got the United States involved in World War I by illegally investing so much money in Europe that if the US didn't get involved in WWI they would have collapsed the United States economy if those European countries lost the war.
exactly. he can afford it cuz he's old. his own kids presumably cant. thats not a coincidence. and lets be real the people benefitting from this the most are the grandparents. they love to be with family all the time. go ask the little girl with no cameras and a few years down the line. i highly doubt she's enjoying it
I love this, I have never been close to my grandparents because they live a bit further away but I think this is such an amazing concept and I would love to have my mom and sister close when I have my own family :)
This was the situation when I was born (unplanned) and my parents had to hop from grandparent to grandparent as teen parents. (My mom was underaged and pregnant, so she actually HAD to live like this). It's nice in the sense that it brings the family closer, but it's not this easy at all. These people are VERY lucky to have ~two kitchens~ and they ultimately made this choice. Imagine 5/ 7 people living in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, ~1 kitchen~ home? That house was even too small for my parents and I when my grandparents and uncles moved out. That causes so many issues because no can can really enjoy their own space. It's really gross how they fail to mention the issues associated with this, and that the majority of people living like this didn't make the choice to live together. Poverty isn't fun and trendy, don't let them fool you.
Perfect life. This is how it should be with your family. You take care of each other and build better connections. This is how we live our life as well. I love that my kids are around my parents.
In the middle east this is the way of life. It helps each family member, as we all take care of each other and help out, especially with smaller children and the elderly.
Sorry to sound like negative Nancy, but what happens if her father pass away, would they still be able to afford the mortgage payment plus the utilities since they say utilities is expensive because the house so big.
I used to have nine people living in our home mom dad brother aunt her two kids grandma my other moms sister and then her brother who was having marital problems
What family members have you shared a home with? Comment your experiences below!

I used to live with my mom, sisters and nieces/nephews. Now I just live with my mom and its awesome!☺️
That is so cute because the children get to see their elders and get to bond with family all the time.
+xx.curlyheadsophia Right?!
The kids in our family always loved to visit my parents especially my nephew. Now that my folks are no longer here it makes those memories even more bittersweet.
that’s my family I’m in the video ❤️
In my country, this is normal. This is beautiful. I’m Nigerian and family is so important to me. I hope to do this one day with my family

the best way of life I tell you ☺💖
Same. I am Filipino. Before my grandparents died, I lived with my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins and siblings.
I really love that family is so important. I love my family and my extended family, we are all very close but I could not imagine living with them.
THIS is EXACTLY why I fell in love with my Palestinian fiancé. It's a beautiful culture. The men look out for their women. Women and men act respectfully!
Love this!! Family helping each other & being there for each other ❤
+aprilmartinez So do we!
Think about it this family will have this house forever
Exactly!!! Everyone puts in and pays off the mortgage then adds on another home later
Brielle Everson not necessarily
Idk why some thinks this is bad?, if you have a huge ass home with pently of rooms for everyone then its perfect and the family gets privacy and gets to spend time together, its perfect.
+it'srobert We agree! :)
Gringos lol jk
I think it’s cultural bias that makes some people look down on it.
I think it’s cultural bias that makes some people look down on it.
So you discover what latins been doing for decades lol
Aren't they latinos? But yeah, other families have been doing this from immigration and birth, not from a natural disaster. It kind of romanticizes it in a way. Why not mention the issues of not having personal space?
yes I live in 3 bedrooms house and we are 9 people. its no easy, but its really hard find your own rent here. I live in Venezuela btw.

Nicole Ann
Yup!! Especially in a tiny home with your inlaws.

Wells Fargo sucks ass too!
Denyse Denyse ; Yes, I had a friend whose financial life was a mess due to Wells Fargo’s blood sucking ways. They are awful. Probably all big banks are the same.
I wish you all the best and I'm glad you are living with someone who is helping you to learn to be a good person like they are
Family is everything! 💗you help them whichever way you can! That’s what we do!
This works when you don’t have narcissistic family members. Some of my family members will slaughter each other by the end of day one 😅😰
Stormey Danielz amen
Agree
It's the norm in so many of the countries I've visited. While many don't really have a choice, most would still choose to live with family. Nobody is killing anybody.
This is a normal lifestyle for many cultures and it is way better than sending the elders to those old age homes
What a beautiful family and so blessed!
Great video!!! Family is important and we keep a family house to help each other to accomplish their goals.

This is just like my home
I wouldn't mind this except for the fact that I'm introverted and need my space. I love when families do this
My younger sister and I are planning to do this when I relocate to where she lives!!! We also have a younger sister who we hope will jump on board has well😁
They can call themselves very lucky ♥️♥️
+zeba Agreed!
This is a family that actually gets along lol
Just the view of the kitchen this house looks amazing...
This is beautiful ❤️
When I was growing up in Hong Kong. My brother and I lived with my grandparents and great-grandmother. Sometimes, my uncle will come and live with us when he have work in the city.
I wish my parents wouldn't be hoarder and saved up for a home instead
Actually when you have a great family this looks like a dream
Love this family!
This is heart warming, I love how close knit the family is!
+desthefashioneater Same here!!

Great inspiring story. You all will be the better for being with your family. Much LOVE from Georgia.
They will never suffer from loneliness.

They are very lucky.
I love this story!
It reminds me of our modern family.
Beautiful family with a great idea! I love this💕

Beautiful family! God Bless
This is awesome, I love their home sharing.
Her grandpa is so handsome, grandmother is gorgeous!
Chase the worst financial institution in the world. I will never bank with them again.
What dis they do lol

I feel like the grandfather is contributing a lot more than everyone else.

Beautiful family! I’m dying to leave the nest, but honestly I love living with my family! I just want to have a lil more space! ❤️
+spacecoven We get you! Thanks for sharing!!
Beautiful family but in India it's a very regular thing nothing extraordinary
I love this, I have never been close to my grandparents because they live a bit further away but I think this is such an amazing concept and I would love to have my mom and sister close when I have my own family :)
+lindakatharina Same!
0:32 mark--is that little girl drinking wine? lol
What a lovely family.
Beautiful family.
The title should be "grandfather pays for everything and other two generations freeload"....
Dying laughing!
Only if they have jobs. Then no it's not freeloading. Everyone should be doing their part.
when you have an amazing family 💓💓💓
It's a blessing that they have extended family to move in with. Everyone doesn't have that.
This was the situation when I was born (unplanned) and my parents had to hop from grandparent to grandparent as teen parents. Finally a practical use for the McMansion :D
In the middle east this is the way of life. It helps each family member, as we all take care of each other and help out, especially with smaller children and the elderly.
Super cool
How can the grandma look so young? Are they actors?
Loved this
Is this upstate New York? It looks beautiful! Even the other houses in the background look really pretty.
a COMMERICIAL?? You didn't even label it as such. Not cool, Refinery29.
Refinery 29 does such amazing videos on homes first sweet digs and now this 👏🙌
+takukoala Thank you!!!!! :)
I don't about the chase sponsoring🚫.But I love the family togetherness with the grandparents.
Have a good life
More family stories like this in the world!
+taylagreen We couldn't agree more!!
Talya Green
It's normal in most parts of the world only in America and West-Europe people don't wanna share a house with extended family members.
This is awesome!!
+nellyomeike Thanks for checking it out!
Sorry to sound like negative Nancy, but what happens if her father pass away, would they still be able to afford the mortgage payment plus the utilities since they say utilities is expensive because the house so big.
BreakingDenman Brushes There’s always someone like you out there these days.
I don't think they are that stupid. They could move into something smaller if they HAD to. Just have a gameplan.
This is Awesome😁
I used to have nine people living in our home mom dad brother aunt her two kids grandma my other moms sister and then her brother who was having marital problems
I think it's great to have a multi generational home. I wish my kids would want to live together
Where are the Dads of the children?
This is normal in my family too
In arab families is very common as well.
From the title I honestly thought that great grandparents had paid only $2000 on a mortgage for the house. I really don't know why.
I know this is a sponsored post but I love this so much. What a beautiful family! x
+janelowe Thanks for watching!! :)
I LOVE this :)
This is so beautiful.
